Most nursing moms will pump at some point or another. Pumping is not something you HAVE to do, it just makes life easier sometimes. For example: Being able to leave your baby with DH for more than an hour! Generally, nursing moms have some sort of freezer stock of milk, just in case of emergencies, and the easiest way to store mommy milk is in freezer bags.
You want to use something that is specifically made for breast milk! A Ziploc might sound nice in theory, but it is NOT sanitary! {a bag for breast milk has a little perforated plastic strip at the top that you rip off to open it and put milk in.}
We had some outside mommies help us review these storage bags and let us know what they thought!
Pros: These storage bags have a double zip seal to ensure that they are closed completely, and to make sure they don’t leak. They are rounded enough to stand up when you are pouring the milk in, but they have a flat design, allowing to store more milk in a smaller area.
The bags also have a place to write the date, volume, name, and time to ensure freshness when organizing them in the freezer.
Our moms loved that the bags were easy to pour out of instead of having to use a funnel (or pump flange- Don’t judge me)
Cons: Like some pump bags that come with an attachment for your pump, you cannot pump straight into these bags. That may not matter to most, but if you are on a tight schedule at work those few minutes its takes to transfer milk to bottle could be used to do other things. When you are a working mom every break becomes a pump break, a potty break would be nice to add too.
The measurements for ounces are almost a full ounce above what they really are and how they measure on bottles
They are a very thin bag, so I have had a few break open! Which is a disaster, and after happening twice I don’t buy them. (You can see what I do use here) But, none of our mommies had that complaint, they all said they would buy them and recommend them to a friend!
