The Poo Poo Fairy {Review}

As the mother of a stubborn toddler, I can assure you that there is absolutely nothing more frustrating than potty training a child. Last May, we started training my then almost three year old. She was doing great until she started to refuse going poop and became very constipated. For a week she would just lay down on the couch or her bed and wouldn’t move (I don’t blame her, ouch!). After that we decided to take a break, however we were desperate to get her trained because she was to start preschool that fall and had to be potty trained. So that August we started trying again but didn’t push the pooping part. She did so good with peeing and was completely potty trained day and night by November. But when it came to pooping, she said she was scared that it would hurt. We assured her many, many times that it wouldn’t hurt but she still would only poop in a Pull Up. At that point, I was fine with that because I didn’t want to go through her being constipated again. Well, come December we had to take a trip to the ER for an enema because her bowels were so compacted.

Fast forward to a year later, she’s still pooping in a Pull Up! I’m sure this is normal and I shouldn’t worry (I’m not worried, I just don’t want to change her poopy Pull Ups anymore, I swear it’s like changing a grown adult’s pants), but I just want to be done with the Pull Ups. I was looking for advice on Google when I came across a new product that I had to try. I was willing to try anything at this point (nothing, not even bribing her with anything she wanted worked). It’s book and doll set called The Poo Poo Fairy. It works along the same lines as the Tooth Fairy. The Poo Poo Fairy, Paulina, leaves a gift for the potty training child ones he or she goes potty. The doll works as a sort potty buddy, helping your little one go potty, as she does in the book, hence the title “The Poo Poo Fairy”.

The book is adorable! My daughter seemed to really enjoy it and wouldn’t put down her new Paulina doll. Once we read the story together, I further explained that Paulina would help her go poop on the potty and she would then bring a gift for her once she went. She got very excited and seemed genuinely ready to go poop on the potty! Finally! So we took a trip to the bathroom where she sat for 15 minutes (she did go pee) but no poop.  I was totally fine with it because before she would throw crazy tantrums if I so much as asked her to go poop on the potty. That’s progress, people!

It’s been a week and she has yet to actually go poop on the potty but she will sit on the toilet when she says she has to go (she then says she’s scared to go). I do believe that Paulina and her book are the reasons she even attempts to go on the potty which is a huge, welcomed change! I have faith that she will soon use the potty to go number one and number two thanks to Paulina. I also think her intense stubbornness has something to do with her not wanting to go but we’re slowly breaking down that wall. It may be better for younger children who are just beginning to potty train. It would be a great way to introduce the potty! I give this product 4.5 out of 5 stars, only because she has yet go number two, but I know she will very soon! I have very high hopes that she won’t be graduating high school, still pooping in a Pull Up!
