A Day In The Life Of Twins.{Guest Blogger}

16736705_10104229509146770_729079791_nWhen someone asks you to tell you what a day in the life having twins is like, the first word that comes to mind is deja vu! So, imagine everyday is groundhog day, except what you just did starts over 5 minutes later. Is there such thing as groundhog minute? As much as my twins are alike, they are completly different. First and foremost, my twins are fraternal twins. One boy. One girl.  L&N.  The love between them is something to witness. They love each other but are jealous of each other as well!

1.png

We have a rough schedule for these two.

  • They wake up (later than most children because of the schedule we put them on 🙂 ), eat breakfast, play for about two hours
  • take a 2 hour nap
  • get up
  • eat lunch
  • play for another hour or two
  • shorter nap, get up
  • play until dinner
  • then play until “bottle,”
  • then finally bed.

Sounds about a normal toddler kind of day right? I’ll get into a little more detail for you now…

2

N wakes up at 5:45am, wants to cuddle, bring to bed until he is back to sleep then take him back to crib.

N wakes up at 9:30-9:45am, time for breakfast.

When we go in to get N, L is up as well and is giggling to get up and eat too. Pick up N, put him in his seat, go back pick up L, put her in her seat, make breakfast times two, cut up to their size and put on their trays.

Start to make my breakfast after theirs is on their plate. Get mine in the toaster or blender, turn around to N telling me “more” (baby sign language is AMAZING). L is only a couple bite behind him.

Pause my breakfast to make some more for them, cut it up, put on their trays.

Finally finish making my breakfast to see the “more” sign. Ok, milk time. Make two sippys of milk, sit down to eat and drink my coffee. 3.png

After I finish my breakfast/coffee, I get them cleaned up and out of their seats to go change their diapers.

Now it is play time. They usually let me know they are tired when they are playing when start laying with the blankets and rubbing their eyes. With one question, “Are you ready for your nap?,” we march our way back to their cribs, where they stand in front of theirs designated cribs waiting for binkie and “up.”

Naptime is GLORIOUS! Two to three hours of work time. Whether it’s my small business work or getting some things done around the house. Hubs would say I do nothing. Don’t listen to that man! Haha! During this time, I get to eat a warm lunch. Some general peace and quiet. Maybe even shower and put normal clothes on.

Around 3:00-3:30pm, N&L wake up. This wake up is the easiest as they are usually giggling and talking to each other in their room. 4.png

So, N&L are up and it is time for lunch.  Here is where they can be different.  Two out of three meal times can end up with multiple meals being made. L has a texture thing. She might like the food, but if she doesn’t like the texture she won’t eat it unless you give her a fork and put the food on the fork for her.  N is a garbage disposal.  He eats almost anything and everything.  But N also has a little reflux so right now spaghetti is out of the question until we determine if he is just overeating it or if it irritates him.

Mealtime is usually over when they start throwing the food on the floor. They are like cats about it! You tell them no and they will stare you in the eyes and just hold their hand over the edge of their tray then drop it on the floor.  N gets cleaned up, then L, change N’s diaper and then L’s. N will probably buck around this time with poop on his butt or L will have a dirty diaper and try to grab what’s on her bum before i get the wipe to it. Do they make squeegees for baby bums? If not someone get on that!

L loves books, music, princess, and dollies.  N likes music, balls or anything he can throw, and anything he can try to take away from his sister. This play time usually ends up in a “fight.” N likes to throw his arms around, usually smacking L in the head. But don’t fear L may be small, but she is mighty and will knock N on his tush.

Most days, these two will get grumpy about 5pm and it’ll be time for nap number two.  If not, while Mama is making dinner, they will be right behind me pulling out everything in any lower cabinet. The favorite thing to play with this week is the bag of unopened pepperoni. But don’t worry, when you try to get it, N will more than like run away with it then throw it over his head at you and L will be a doll and HOPEFULLY pick it up for you for you get there and put it away.

Dinner is served. Same deal except this time L is loving the green beans you put on her tray and N is throwing them on the floor with force!  Clean up after meals is twice the fun because you have two trays to clean up, an entire dining room to sweep, two faces and four hands to wipe down plus if they had plates.

N and L are usually a little grumpy after dinner but Mama and Daddy might just think that because we had been going all day with no nap like they got! They will play, watch some toons, dance, Change N’s diaper whose is again kicking his legs, knocking things off the changing table. Then L’s diaper who is actually being a peach reading a book this time. Their other favorite sign during this time of night is “cookie.”  I usually end up with “more cookie” instead of just “cookie.” I blame that on Daddy, his nickname is Cookie Monster.

Come about 9:45-10:00pm, they are getting super grouchy.  “Babies, you want your baba?” Both squeal, march off to the kitchen where we make their bottles, and don’t leave our side until we are ready to go back to the living room where they climb into their spots for their last small “meal” of the day.

When they are done, both will get up when you ask if they are ready for bed, waddle their way back to their room.  Change L’s diaper. Change N’s diaper. Turn the music on because N won’t sleep without it. If we forget, 30 minutes later, N is screaming for it.

5

Finally, they are in their cribs and time for relaxation. NOPE! Two times the toys to pick up, still need to finish putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and oops I forgot to include someone in all of this… BIG GIRL!!

I didn’t forget her! Typing our day out without including her actually proved to be quite difficult! Ha! BG is very similar to N but she is 4 years old and usually starts all off all of these events, not N. BG loves her brother and sister very much but also loves her alone time, too! She shares a lot and is learning what she is and isn’t allowed to share.  Which is great for us because instead of trying to keep those little food themed toys away from one toddler mouth, we have two mouths. Our fingers have plenty of bite marks to prove. Those 1 year old molars really do hurt!
I love my twins! We were only going to have one more kid after BG. I always joked with my husband that we were going to be the ones in his family who end up having twins because they run in his family. Even two days before the ultrasound that told us we were having twins, I asked “what are you going to do if there is two in there?” He didn’t find it as funny as I did, even two days later.  Life wouldn’t be the same without those two.  I catch even try to imagine what it would be like without one or the other because they are both so amazing! They truly do make our little family complete.

Baby Dam {Product Review}

babydam12

Who else despises baby bath tubs? I know I couldn’t stand them when my  toddlers were tiny. They take up so much room, I never felt like they were safe enough, and they were such a waste of money since you only use them for a few months. Thankfully my kids were close together and BK#2 starting sitting fairly early so the need for a baby tub/seat was virtually not needed. Now we just use way too many gallons of water and fill up the tub for both of them. Scratch that!  We USED to use too much water. That is until Baby Dam sent us their awesome product.

The Baby Dam The BabyDam bathtub divider is a unique patented product that allows you to customize the size of your bathtub to fit your need and to conserve the amount of water that you fill up your tub with.

Below: Without the BabyDam® barrier
(Using 100% of tub & 30 gallons of water)

Below: With the BabyDam® barrier
(Using 50% of tub & 15 gallons of water)

conserve02.png

  thebigpicture.png

It is made with the highest quality materials that exceed the European and United States safety standards!  There are two different styles you can choose from depending on the way that your tub is made.

If the inside width of your bath tub is between 22.5 inches & 26.5 inches, order the BabyDam® in US & Canada size.

If the inside width of your bath tub is LESS THAN 22.5 inches wide, order the BabyDam® in European size.

The tub divider makes a secure and tight seal on a CLEAN and dry tub. I found that if there was any soap residue left from a previous shower or bath that I hard a very hard time getting the divider to suction properly. I never had an instance that it wouldn’t stick, but it would let a little water through to the other side. It was easily remedied by following the given directions specifically!

babydam2.jpg
Notice the little bit of water on the other side of the dam

It takes only a minute to install on your tub, and you can use suction cups to hang it on the back of your shower wall to save room. No storing a big bulky baby tub anymore!

Buy yours here!  And be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram!

I am beyond excited about this new product!  It is a money saver, a time saver, and more importantly safe!  It give me such an amazing peace of mind that my littles ones have much less room to slide around in. I cant wait for more of my friends have babies, because I know what I will be gifting them!

Flying Squirrel. A New Kind Of Sleep Sack by Sleeping Baby. *GIVEAWAY!*

sleepingbabyburritobuzz
…notice blanket all the way at the end of his bed!

Every night I sneak into our baby’s room to re-tuck him back in and ensure his room is warm enough. Some nights I used to even turn the heat up in the house just to make sure he was warm. The winter months are brutal here in Ohio and our little one makes it worse by NEVER staying covered up. I always thought sleep sacks, and ‘toddler sleeping bags’ were unnecessary and ridiculous looking. A cozy fuzzy blanket is MUCH cuter. We are well past the stage of not being allowed to have extra bedding in his bed, so swaddles and sacks shouldn’t be needed, right? WRONG. BK#2 HATES being covered. He appeases us, snuggles up with his lovey, lets us cover him with an adorable Aden & Anias dream blanket, and then the second that we walk out of his room he pushes it to the opposite end of his crib. Really kid?!?!

Thus, began the search for the perfect toddler sleeping solution. I really wanted a way to help my baby sleep without waking, because he was cold, but he is much too old for traditional swaddles. I found some awesome sleep sacks, but the fact that they are a sack makes him pretty mad. He was getting used to it, but I kept on searching to find something to keep him warm AND happy.

I FOUND THE BEST SOLUTION FOR ALL AGES!our-brands-zipadeezip.jpg

Sleeping Baby has the perfect products for infants transitioning out of swaddles, for toddlers like mine refusing to stay covered and warm at night, for preschoolers needing a sleep solution for nap time at school, even teethers,  and necklaces for mom!

Sleeping Baby is AMAZING COMPANY with an even better story. They truly have a heart for their customers and LOVE what they do! They started their company making something to transition their daughter out of the traditional swaddle and created the revolutionary Zipadee-Zip, that was discovered and aired on Shark Tank! I could go on and on about this couple, because they are truly an inspiration to all parents to follow your dreams and to do what is best for you and your family, but I really want to talk about the FLYING SQUIRREL so I encourage you to read all about it here!Sleeping-Baby-522x348.jpg

WHAT IS A FLYING SQUIRREL?FS_Woodlands_Blue_Front_large.png

  • They are an extension of the Zippy because they’re the same basic shape, but have option openings/covers for the hands and feet.
  • The convertible hand and foot covers (like a new born onsie’s optional mitten flip overs )are to  to keep your little one extra cozy and warm without the need for socks. Seriously, ADORABLE! BK#2 hated the mitten option on his hands, but it gave me all the feels remembering  the itty bitty baby onsies. I am going to keep trying and maybe he will indulge me and let me cover his hands!
  • It comes in sizes 2T-5T.
  • Fleece or SUPER soft cotton option. We received the cotton material. – I suggest the cotton for spring and the fleece for winter months. (I put a set of PJ’s under the cotton material, because it wasn’t as heavy for winter as I normally would use.)
  • At LEAST a dozen prints for each gender, and many are gender neutral!sleepingbabyburritobuzzzippersleepingbabyburritobuzzzipper2
  • Zipper coverings! The top of the zipper is always enclosed and there is a layer of fabric covering the zipper on the inside to ensure you don’t snag your baby or their clothes.
  • They run big and look at little baggy on your child. That is how they are supposed to be! Don’t worry! You want your baby to be able to move around freely in their bed AND if gives the product more longevity! All parents know that baby gear lasts for no time at all.
  • They wash up wonderfully! They stay super soft and buttery, and the print doesn’t fade one bit!
  • Fairly priced at $36.95 . This might sound a little high for “pj’s”, but for sleepers and sleep sacks its just right and around the same price as SIMILAR products on the market. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE THIS DESIGN AVAILABLE!

Sassy Baby. Grow up Cups and More Favorites.

BurritoBuzzSassyGrowUpCups.jpgIt is no secret that BurritoBuzz moms are always on the lookout for new sippy cups. We generally don’t like them. They are always leaking, or molding, or even better yet breaking. Its so annoying!  I really wish companies made made baby products better, but alas they are made to last for a short time. I have been introduced to my new favorite sippy cups and  I am already throwing out others to replace them with the NEW Sassy Baby Grow Up Cups! Sassy Baby has a whole new line of products and I am excited to share some of my favorites with you!

GROW UP CUPS

The best way to transition to an open cup with no lid is a cup that doesn’t have a spout at all. Sassy has created a cup my little girl calls her “big girl – no lid cup” and gives me the ease of actually having a lid to keep all those messes trapped. BK#2 was so intrigued that he actually started giving up his bottle! YESSSSS!!

About the Grow Up Cups.

  • Revolutionary 360° design – sip 360° around the rim with no spout or straw!
  • Available in 7 oz., 9 oz. and 12 oz. sizes
    • Both the 7 oz. and 12 oz. sizes are available in a single pack
    • 9 oz. cup is available in convenient double packs
  • Easy grip handles (sold with 7 oz. cups) can be removed and used with each cup size! > I wasn’t super impressed with the handles because they didn’t snap in or stay on the cups very well. They are adorable and work great, but made the cup a toy because BK#2 spent his entire time with the handle just playing with it.img_2998
  • BPA Free & Phthalate Compliant
  • Pediatric dentist preferred over spouted cup
  • The lid is easily taken apart into three pieces to make cleaning easy!
  • Lids are interchangeable within cup sizes! I love that you don’t have to even look to see if they match or anything. Snap the membrane on the lid, twist, and off they can go! img_2996
  • Silicon valve automatically seals when your child stops drinking to eliminate messes
  • Slender enough for toddlers to grip with one hand.
  • Grow Up Cups come in MANY different colors and prints, slogan cups, and even a fruit infuser cup with a little carrying handle!
    • The Infuser Cup is a natural way to flavor water. About 1/4 cup of fruit can put placed in the removable fruit infuser.
  • Price – A 9oz or 7oz  2 pack retails for $10.99 (Currently on sale on Amazon for $7.17!)  and one 12oz cup retails for $5.99.

These cups are awesome and super functional! Although they aren’t completely leak proof they definitely are leak resistant! If your child drops them and leaves them laying they might drip a little, or if they shake them up-side-down, yes they will leak, but sitting in their chair drinking at a normal they did not leak on them! The only real time i had an issue with the Grow UP Cups leaking was when BK#2 shook it playing. Really, most “sippy cups” leak when shook.

FIRST SOLIDS FEEDING BOWL WITH SPOONIMG_2965.jpg

  • Ergonomic shaped bowl offers a variety of single-handed grips for the caregiver
  • 2 divided compartments keep foods separate.
  • Snap-on lid for portability. – I wish the lid fit better. I trust it to keep foods cold in the fridge, but I would not put it in the diaper bag for travel out of fear it would pop off.
  • Includes  soft silocon-like Sassy Transitional Feeding Spoon
  • Assorted boy/girl colors
  • Price- $5.99IMG_2972.jpg

I cant express how much I wish I would have had this when BK#1 was an infant! The little spot for the spoon to sit is an amazing way to hold it when you’re feeding a child of any age! When BK#1 was a baby I lost track of how many times she would knock the baby food out of my hand! With this bowl you can hold it more securely. Its seriously the best design for a bowl that I have seen in a LONG TIME!

ON-THE-GO FORK AND SPOON SETIMG_2961.jpg

  • Travel case keeps child-sized utensils clean in diaper bag!
  • Properly sized for little hands. The curved handles make it so easy for little hands to get the food in their mouth without dumping it first. IMG_2973.jpg
  • Assorted blue and pink cases available
  • Price – $4.99 for the set.

My little ones did great with these utensils and the spoon is my favorite specifically, because it is so easy for babies to use on their own. The fork is very rounded and doesn’t stab tougher food that well.

BATHTIME PALS & PULL&GO BOATBurritoBuzzSassyBathToys.jpg

  •  The bathtime pals are a set of 5 squirt and float characters
  • Characters offer a variety of colors and textures
  • Sized for little hands to grasp and squirt
  • Unlike some squirty bath toys theses are almost a soft silicon material!
  • The pull&go boat has a silicon character as well with a plastic and string pull to make the 2 paddles zip through the water.
    • Available in pelican or penguin characters
    • No batteries required
  • Price- Bathtime pals are on sale for $6.54 and the Pull & Go boat is $7.33

My littles LOVE bath toys. When I told them that I had new ones for them they were SO EXCITED! These toys inspires imagination and works with their fine motor development. Win-win in my book!

We are so happy with Sassy Baby and cannot wait to see what else they come out with. Sassy Baby products are a must have for any baby registry!  This company is coming out with new products all the time and they really do have your family in mind when they are creating! Be sure to visit them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Youtube. They will have a new shop open on their website very soon at www.sassybaby.com. Be sure to check it out for some awesome new product. I will be sure to share when it is up!

Bookroo Monthly Children’s Books

burritobuzzbookrooOn a cold rainy day full of child activities and errands pulling into my drive and seeing this adorable little box propped up against my door was so exciting. I knew even though I was exhausted and wanted to crash coming home wouldn’t be stressful, and we would have a blast opening up our package!

BK#1 absolutely LOVED opening up her package. She got even more excited when she saw that it was wrapped up like presents. Christmas made our little threenager a PRO at opening gifts and very much aware of “presents” and meaningful gift giving! After we opened the box she exclaimed “Oh mommy, you got me a gift!  I love it”, and she didn’t even know what was inside! BurritoBuzzBookRoogift.jpg

Akron Children’s Museum. Cabin Fever No More.

1017541_582065261846428_877869030_nHere in Ohio its winter. Well, I think? It’s currently 50 and raining, so not the normal -15 F and a snowstorm, but still pretty gross. My kids are bouncing off the walls lately and I have been searching for something new for them to do! I know not everyone is close to Akron, Ohio, but if you are or ever find yourself near here,  this place is the solution! Akron Children’s Museum is more like a huge discovery playhouse than a “museum”. Don’t let their name fool you.

IT’S AWESOME!! So much thought was put into this and they aren’t even done yet. Some of you might have seen me try and go live Thursday morning, but Facebook/Verizon was NOT cooperating. You can see the general lay-out though ,and get an idea of what it looks like, even though  Facebook kept cutting in and out a lot.

Akron Children’s Museum’s mission is to be a gathering place for children and families, where play inspires exploration, discovery, and problem solving. ACM envisions a community shaped by lifelong learners, who provide innovative leadership inspired by creativity and diverse perspectives.

Beyond the museums exhibits  they have a calendar of events and activities booked full of fun things to get involved in! Things like little kids yoga, theater games, art studio and much more.

Not only are there awesome and educational exhibits, but they really went above and beyond to think about parents and families. There is a whole area to park strollers and hang coats. If you are a nursing mom or have a child that needs some quiet time there is a quiet room that has dim lighting and a few comfy chairs!

The museum is located at 216 S. Main St. in downtown Akron, Ohio next to Lock 3 Park.
You can park in the State Street Parking Deck located at 52 W. State St. (behind Barley House). Take the elevator to the ground level, take a right to go outside, and doors to the museum are straight ahead. Out of the elevators you will be right inside of Lock 3. There are plenty of signs showing you the way to the entrance.img_2622

Open Tuesdays- Sundays 10am-6pm

$5 for kids and adults (infants 12-months and under free)

Annual memberships start at just $55 and include free parking.

If you have a family of 4 all requiring admission, the annual membership would pay for itself in 2.5 visits! With the ever changing calendar of events and their additions and continuing to build, it would be well worth it!

My kids and I LOVED Akron Children’s Museum! We will be returning! The only suggestion I have is a little more security. I was very thankful to have someone with me, but if I was alone with two children I would have been very concerned. It is a very open layout and a child could run off or be misplaced fairly quickly. I would love to see a few staff people just walking the floor with the sole purpose of keeping an eye out. The staffers that were around were cleaning and then running back into closets and to the desk to fulfill other duties.  The museum is  wesome, and we were very excited to return, but definitely with daddy or a grandparent to help wrangle those quick toddlers!

Be sure to Check out their website here for more information and to follow them on Facebook to stay up to date on all the awesome things they are doing for the community!   ~Amanda

DockATot Grand {Product Review}

img_0042.jpgSleep. Please give me all the sleep. It’s the thing that all parents are seriously lacking in. How toddlers run on so little sleep has to be some sort of miracle. Sleeping when they sleep doesn’t constitute to enough sleep most of the time. It’s a cruel joke, really. I know I know….”Cherish these days while you have them, they don’t last. You will wish you were up at 3 am snuggling in 6 years”. Blah blah blah. No I wont. I will never wish that I was up at 3 am watching Curious George praying that MAYBE it will make her settle long enough for me to snag a few more snoozes.

Until the day that my kids are teenagers and sleeping like I wanted them to when they were two, I will just funnel coffee directly down my throat, and work out at 5 am in hopes that I can make it till bedtime.

DockATot sent us their Grand dock and I gladly accepted. Promises of happier babies and more sleep. Yes please. Take all my money.

dockatotgrandeburrtiobuzz.jpg

What is a DockATot?

Quite literally it is a safe pillow to nest your child in for a cozier sleep environment. It comes in two sizes the Deluxe and the Grand. Deluxe is made for 0-8months and Grand  is made for 9-36 months.

The Grand is perfect for cuddling, playing, lounging, resting and everything in between. It’s ideal for travel—either from room to room, grandma’s house or on vacation. It’s also ideal for bed transitioning, thanks to built-in, air permeable bumpers that act as bed rails, allowing young children to settle more easily in a bigger bed.  It  gives little ones a snug sense of security in their newer, bigger beds.

The dock is BREATHABLE, MACHINE WASHABLE, OEKO-TEX CERTIFIED,HYPO ALLERGENIC, FREE OF CHEMICALS, AND NATURALLY COOLING. safety-chart-dat.jpg

The dock comes in many different patterns and they also have many cover options that you can purchase separately.

The pad and bumpers are very breathable. I shoved my face in and could definitely take a deep breath and breath comfortably. That made me feel good about my one year old using it.  I wish I would have had this months ago when my little man was still co-sleeping because of nursing. I am sure this would have given him more hours of sleep in the pack n play next to my bed.

I have to admit that I was skeptical. It’s HUGE. And basically a big body pillow for toddlers. Both BK#1 and BK#2 are HUGE fans of it. BK#1 ended up with it permanently in her bed though. BK#2 is my sleeper and will sleep 12 hours at night and a good 2 hour nap during the day.  BK#1 on the other hand is almost 3 and fights sleep with everything in her being. We recently moved her into a twin bed, and I think the large surface area might be messing with her sleep pattern. After I saw how much that she loved playing in it, and then dozing off in it, I decided to put it in her bed to see what would happen. DockATtotBurritoBuzz .jpg

The past 3 days she has gone to bed without a fuss and stays up until her clock tells her that she can get out of bed. Which hasn’t happened in a few weeks! I am actually going to push the time up a little bit for her because I think it is actually waking her! She is definitely more comfortable and not tossing and turning as much. She hasn’t came in my room asking to be covered back up or arriving at my bedside at 4am saying she is up for the day. WIN!

BK#1 LOVED it in his crib. He is 1.5 and can have things in his crib, but the FAQs say that’s not what it is made for without observation. I put it in there for a nap time and a photo, because dang it …its adorable!1483753072005.jpg

What I don’t love:

The price?!?! I get that its made of some awesome breathable fabric, its gone through some pretty strict testing, and the design is awesome…but really almost $300 is a little steep. That is NOT in the average person’s budget. The company is limiting their market by quite a bit with the price. If I knew that some pillow bumpers would have made my toddler happy then I would have put two body pillows in her bed!

Its HUGE. Yes it would be great to have at a grandparents house, or on a vacation for unfamiliar beds, but getting it there is the problem. You can purchase a carrying bag but its still the size of a large suitcase. Lord knows that parents have to take way too much as it is when we travel with children, add on carrying a huge pillow? Yeah that would be a big NO in my book. The car seat for the airplane is enough to lug around.

I give the DockATot a 3 out of 5 stars. Its awesome and definitely gets the job done, but the price is way too high and its definitely not something you have to have as a parent. Adorable and super popular right now? yes. Practical 100% of the time? No.

Shēdo Lane UV Apparel // SwimZip’s Sister Company {Product Review}

15220218_224136411345644_2384897757045487509_n

I know summer clothing might not be on our minds, but the warm weather is certainly on mine! I am currently staring outside at a few inches of snow and a temperature that is well below my age. I do much better with the warmer months. If some sunset-beach-chairs-stock-footage.jpgof you are thinking about taking a weekend to the beach, I want to introduce you to some butter soft kids’ clothes!

We aren’t planning a trip to the beach any time soon, but these polos are making some adorable layering pieces for my little man this winter.

Shēdo Lane is a brand new sister company of SwimZip (as seen on ABC’s Shark Tank), and I am so excited to be introducing and sharing them with our readers! logo.png

Shēdo Lane is a luxury sun protection apparel brand. Utilizing the highest rated, UPF 50+, UV sun protective fabric in complimenting styles, they bring sun protection clothing to its highest form.  Whether it is a morning walk on the beach, a playdate at a favorite playground, an afternoon cup of tea on the patio, or drinks with friends around the pool, Shēdo Lane keeps you covered from the sun’s rays – and looking your best. Shēdo Lane sun protective apparel brings together the function and fashion – so you can indulge in the sun and get on with living your dreams!image2_grande.jpg

We received a toddler 2T polo and found that it runs a little larger than a Carter’s 2T. It fits my little linebacker just fine because he’s so stalky, but on a slender taller toddler, it would be a little baggy.

The material is made from bamboo and it is soft as butter! I seriously wish all kids’ clothes were made this soft and supple. Perfect for snuggling, but stylish enough to wear on a night out! IPhoto087_300dpi.jpg have washed them multiple times and they don’t shrink or lose their shape in any way!

Not only do they offer toddler clothes, but they have clothes for adults!  Who doesn’t want to match their little one? I know I think it’s adorable! I have been eying the cardigan for woman and I will probably be putting it on some sort of wish list for my hubby! I have a feeling I will never want to buy any other brand of shirts!

My only complaint is that the clothes are priced a little high for babies and little ones. One polo is $25. For an adult, I would definitely pay that, but not for a simple toddler shirt. The adult clothes are priced well though. The cardigan I was talkingphoto41_300dpi about is only $40 which is pretty average for a woman’s shirt.

Overall, I have to give Shēdo Lane a 4 out of 5 stars! I can’t stop scrolling through their website, looking at all their comfy clothes! Baby clothes are seriously my weakness.

Have fun shopping!

Be sure to check out this awesome, family-owned company on Facebook and Instagram!

10 New Year Resolutions Every Parent Should Have

10-new-year-resolutions-every-parent-should-have-burritobuzz

Do you make a New Year’s Resolution every year and then falter when February 15th hits, and all the Valentine’s Day chocolate is 75% off? I know I do. I like to have goals that are measureable. Goals that I can make a list for and then a month or so down the road, I can see the progress that I have made. This year, I am making a new resolution.

I want to be a more mentally present and attentive parent.

There are many, many ways that I can do this, but I wanted to share my top 10 that I will be focusing on this year.oneI am way worse about this than I really like to admit.snapchatburritobuzz.jpg But if you sit back and think about it, how often do you actually turn your phone off? How often are you sitting on the floor with your kids and scrolling through Facebook? Or while they’re watching a movie and you’re reading through emails? Better yet, instead of playing, we are snap chatting with them? Gosh, I do this way too much. So much time is wasted playing with stupid filters. Technology is important this day and age, but we have to learn to limit ourselves as much as we limit our children. How often do you say “okay, that’s enough cartoons for the day” and five minutes later, you’re checking Facebook. Guilty!twoI plan on doing this outside of bedtime with my little ones. Not a book here and there, but sit down on the couch after dinner and deliberately focus on extended reading time. Reading is brain food. I hope that by enforcing consistent reading habits for my children that they will learn to love reading and their brains will flourish. You can read more about how important reading daily is here.three5c4135bdfa4c16b5878d7b7d04084dd1.jpgMy littles love being outside, as most children do. No matter how cold, wet, snowy, hot, muggy, or windy, I plan to get them outside to enjoy and experience the outdoors and encourage their love for nature, before they’re teenagers and I am begging them to go outside and do something!fourIhappiness-gratitude-jar.jpg want my children to have favorite memories and activities that we did during their childhood to carry on to their adult life. I am not sure what that will be for sure yet, but I know that we are going to start a “Happy Moments Jar,” planting flowers in the spring, and seeing fireworks in the summer.fiveSometimes we just get in our funks with life and forget that our tiny humans are watching us. Do more of what makes you happy and include your littles when doing it. Let them help you with your hobbies, involve them with things that you normally wouldn’t. As crazy as my OCD might be, I plan on letting my littles bang on the piano a little more when I am at it, having helpers when I bake more often, and maybe even letting them play with my yarn, that’s a big maybe. I wrote a post about choosing to be happy last year. Check it out here.sixNo matter what your religion or what you believe, it is important for children to have strong core values. Here at BurritoBuzz, we respect everyone and don’t really talk about our religions, but I encourage you to focus on what you believe in and what you want to instill into your children as they grow up.
02812016seven
I have to admit, we have a pretty large family and our “village” for our children is pretty big, but my goal is to embrace it a little more and to lean on those who love us. Even more so to clean up oFind-Your-Tribe-Project-Bond-Laporte.pngur village. Focus on those who focus on us and try not to worry about things that I can’t control. I have learned that I can’t make family behave the way they should. Adulthood and parenthood made it easy for me to realize that friends come and go sometimes, and that’s okay.

eight.pngThis is a big thing for me. Marriage is not always easy and it is so important for our children to have a constant strong foundation to lean on. The only way that our relationship is going to grow, is to make each other a priority daily. It is fairly easy now. We are really happy and life is awesome, but life isn’t always awesome. I want to start having more regular dates and doing more things just daddy and I.nine.pngThe constant worry about the dishes, the laundry, cleaning the bathrooms, sweeping up the dog hair… it just never ends. The sooner that I give up and admit that fact, the happier I will be! I don’t want my kids to look back and say “yeah, mom always cleaned in her free time.” Uh, how about a reading a book or working on a craft? Or going for a walk? The chores aren’t going anywhere. Period.

il_fullxfull-229582580ten.jpgI mean really, just hop off of Facebook and Instagram for a hot minute and relax. Who cares when Johnny started walking or that your kid drinks mama’s milk and Sally’s kid drinks formula and cloth vs. disposable diapers. Fit and healthy vs. surviving on 2 hours of sleep. Top of the line baby gear vs.being a single parent with barely one income. Organic backyard farm raised vs. pop tarts and McDonalds. Working parent vs. Stay at home parent.facafd0804849d464c46d2c11eb8f2ea.jpg

Give it up. Being a parent is hard enough just from reading the pamphlets they send home with you from the hospital, much less if you are making a list in the back of your head about whatever everyone else is doing, what you think you should be doing. I do it, I’ll admit it. We all do it and we don’t even think about it. I’m taking a step back and focusing on how perfect our parenting style is and how my kids are thriving, smart, and healthy. That is all that matters in the end.

Happy New Year! I hope your goal is to focus on what you have and not what you need to do in the New Year!

Last Minute Christmas Shopping. Ideas For All Ages.

last-minutI am usually the procrastinator. I like to try and get little things throughout the year for close family members, if I see things I think that they would like, but most years I wait till around the 20th to do the bulk of my shopping. So stupid. So so so STUPID, but I do it almost every single year. This year was different. I am not sure how or when I got it all tackled, but I have been done shopping for about a week now! It is seriously a fabulous feeling. I go to Target to get diapers and I am surrounded by frantic chaos and I am not phased, because I am not eagerly figuring out what else I need to get. Since I have a little bit of extra time I thought that I would compile a list of  ideas if you are struggling with deciding what to get a friend, their kids, your family, or whomever you weren’t handed a list a mile – long for!

I tried to make sure that these ideas where below $50 for budget’s sake. That doesn’t mean there aren’t A LOT of awesome gear on the market right now that is above that, but I know that most people have many people to shop for. Also, most links are for Amazon or a store that they are currently in stock at, for easy shipping and ease of shopping. Be sure to check out your local boutiques for some items also. This time of year shopping local really is helping your community’s friends and family.

Getting My Toddler To Sleep. {OK to Wake! Clock Review}

sleep6My almost- 3 year old has never been a great sleeper. As an infant she had colic, cluster fed all night long, and refused to nap unless held. To this day I am really not sure how she survived on so little sleep, or how we did for that matter. From around 1- 2 years old she had mild bouts of waking in the middle of the night, but for the most part she slept through the night. When 2 years hit a switch flipped. She FOUGHT FIGHTS going to bed, she wakes all the time, we started using a sound machine/projector just to distract her from not wanting to sleep long enough to pass out, and worst of all she started waking at FIVE AM or earlier. Every single day. We tried every tactic in the book, but absolutely nothing worked. Finally 6 months later we have her sleeping till at least 5:30-5:45am and staying in her room if she wakes before her clock is green. I will come back to that in a bit.51cbf905d67908ae96a60368d3914de5

WHAT DID We DO?….not all at one time

  • Extremely strict bedtime routine. –  Warm bath, lavender oil lotion, 2 books, turn on twinkle twinkle(After her 18 mo sleep regressions we got rid of the projector feature of her sound machine and just let the music play), snuggle up with baby doll, kisses, and good night.
  • New bedtime- only books.
  • Warm milk and a small snack if she wanted before bedtime routine.
  • Quiet time and winding down 30 min prior to bathtime.
  • Returning to her room only once for bedtime fussing and requests. (Hugs, cup, different stuffed animal etc. )
  • Cutting any type of sugar out, especially in the afternoon. – No juice, fruit, cereals etc
  • Allowing her to have a few fun books and quiet toys to play with when she wakes, instead of waking the entire house at the crack of dawn. – At this point we just gave in to the fact that some kids just aren’t sleepers. Our pediatrician said she was getting ENOUGH sleep, just not our desired amount.sleepchart
  • Pushing bed time a little, thinking maybe she would sleep in a little later. – We made bedtime at 8:30pm consistently for a little over a week and 4:30- 5 am was her wake up time. Every day. So, that obviously didn’t work.
  • Fresh air every day,  and focusing on a good amount of physical activity after dinner time. – Just to make sure she got all of her wiggles out and she was good and tired.
  • Lavender Essential oils. – I will link here for some information about how this works for ALOT of children for sleep problems!images4vh1sx1d
  • Parenting to sleep/stay asleep. – I wasn’t fond of this, but some Dr’s do recommend it, other do not. I personally am a very gentle parent and I believe that bedtime as any other situation with a child  should be a teaching and learning experience rather than discipline. I didn’t want any type of punishments related to nighttime, mostly out of fear that it would make it worse, but laying down the law a little bit did help some. Things like this helped a little :”We don’t scream and yell, and if that’s what you choose to do then you will go down and sit in time out until you can use your words”, “If you go wake your brother instead of coming to mommy then you’re going straight to time out”, “If we don’t get our sleep at bedtime/naptime then we don’t get to go ….” I don’t think it helped the amount of sleep that either of us were getting, but the attitude definitely shifted.
  • Last but NOT LEAST. We tried the OK! To Wake alarm clock and I am beyond happy with the daily results.mnv-002_2z

If you are struggling with all of the above solutions not working, then hopefully this will help you and your little ones like it has helped us!

I found it while googling in the middle of the night. It was definitely a last resort, but WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I have seen it retailed at $22-$29. The link above is for Amazon with the cheapest  price that I have found at $22. IMG_3478-001.jpg

It is a  clock with a night light that  glows green when it’s OK for your child to get out of bed.  It has a constant night light if you choose to use it, but turns off with a  button.

For toddlers who can’t tell time it is there is a cute little robotic face option instead of the time. When your toddler is older and needs a clock it is a regular alarm clock with a snooze, and a nap timer.

The main feature of this clock is obviously the light up at wake time feature. The back of the clock has a great little concealed program pad in the back. untitled2 It was extremely easy to set up, and the directions were very clear and descriptive. You set a time like you would for an alarm, but instead of a noise going off the back light lights up green.  The light is pretty dim, so if your child is still sleeping then it wont wake them.   It is easy for parents to program; grows with families by helping them get more sleep, and then teaching children growing  independence with the alarm clock!

When BK#1 wakes up at the crack of dawn she knows to wait in her room till her clock  turns green, and sometimes she even falls back asleep while waiting. It took her a week or so to really understand what was going on and after a few weeks we have slowly changed the time that it turns green to a desired time for us!  {We started with a time close to when she had been waking and pushed it up by 5 minutes every few days.}  She gets the feeling of accomplishment that comes with completing a job well done. And, Ok to Wake! is something that can be completed successfully every day!x2_50f52d3b3d2bd00c5799353ee4429a5e

It comes with a USB cord and has battery backup, and a second interchangeable face plate.

The only thing that I don’t  like is that the wall adapter is not included. You can use any  USB wall adapter you already own for phones, tablets, etc. though. It wasn’t a huge deal, but just something I wish I would have  paid more attention to. I recommend having it plugged in because if not then it is free standing and your toddler might just build a book tower to

I 100% give this awesome clock a 5 out of 5 stars and it is most definitely something that every family needs!

I would love for my daughter to be a sleeper, but I don’t think that is going to happen anytime soon. Ok to Wake!  has definitely given me some more sleep!  I hope everything we tried can help you too!

HELP! My Kids Are Sick!

helpmykidsaresickburritobuzz

When you are a parent the conversation that you have with other adults tends to change drastically. That conversation changes even more when your friends start having babies too. The questions you googled in the wee hours of the night start to be the things your friends ask you about. Instead of talking about having an evening out with your husband, you are talking about how to stop the annoying virus that is causing a consistent runny nose or stomach ache.flueeverywhere

Fall and winter are just gross when it comes to kids. They are cooped up in the house or at school, and the germs just fester and circulate from kid to kid. This leaves parents to trying just about anything to keep our kids healthy.

***********************************************************************

I AM NOT A DOCTOR, THIS ADIVCE IS STRICTLY FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND ADIVCE I HAVE RECIEVED FROM OUR MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. IF YOU OR YOUR CHILD ARE SICK PLEASE CONSULT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.

************************************************************************

Always call your child’s pediatrician  when they are sick. Even if it’s just to chat with a nurse and get on file that they have the runs. The more your doctor knows the better they can care for your child. I just want to share what I have learned to help prevent sickness and some ways to help you and your kiddos when you are sick. A lot of this might be common sense, but are good reminders when you have sick babies and haven’t slept in a week!

PREVENTION.jpg

  • Wash wash wash wash wash your hands and their hands!b6d473031f7ff115604fa7023216bcad.jpg
  • Wash surfaces. I try to stay away from heavy chemicals. I generally stick to The Honest Company multipurpose cleaner  for every day cleaning and Method All Natural disinfectant 28oz_antibac_wildflower.pngfor disinfecting everything else. Every day AT LEAST once I wipe down all the door knobs, light switches that have been touched,  and anything that might have been touched by potty/snotty hands. I usually do this after bed time to give it time to disinfect before someone else touches.
  • Healthy diet and drinking lots of water. BK#1 is super picky, so I am aware of how hard it is to get kids to eat a balanced meal, but keeping their bodies full of vitamins will really keep their immune systems up and running.
  • Stay active! The more oxygen your body has the better it can fight bacteria.
  • SLEEP. Adults and kids alike. If you don’t get enough sleep, and you are run down then you are more likely to get sick. Everyone is busy, busy this time of year with the holidays, but that doesn’t mean we can run on less sleep. Make sure your kiddos are still staying schedule with their naps and bedtime (and you too!).
  • Get the flu vaccine-The CDC says it’s the single best way to prevent the flu and it is covered in full by most insurances. It’s available at doctor’s offices and most pharmacies too.
  • Teach your child germ “etiquette“. Sneezing and coughing into your arm, washing your hands after blowing your nose, walking away from people if you are coughing or sneezing, etc. YES, even if they are a toddler they can learn things like this!
  • girl-sneezing-into-elbow_dtxpur.jpg
  • Teach not to share at school, and about areas where there are more germ!  For ex: Drink from a water bottle and not the water fountain, don’t eat food that dropped on the food tray or floor, and send them with hand sanitizer if allowed.51-I+dEhW5L.jpg

We can do all of these things, and our kids will still get sick; it’s just a part of life! The following list of sicknesses are just common illnesses, and again: I am not a medical professional this is based on my own experiences and research.

rashes

  • They can be caused by just about anything and everything in younger children. My kids get heat rash SUPER easy, they also have pretty sensitive skin. A rash doesn’t always mean sick. Keep that in mind.
  • Rashes are NOT easy to diagnose, don’t try and WedMD your way through a bad rash. If it’s a mild rash that doesn’t go away after a day or so then call your pediatrican. If it came out of nowhere, is BAD and doesn’t go away. CALL THEIR PEDITRICIAN.
  • Call your pediatrician first if the rash is accompanied by a fever, pussing, scabbing, difficulty breathing, wheezing, or vomiting as any or all of these symptoms can mean a serious illness or allergic reaction.72fd1fdb071f343e6adb57e1042da5b0.jpg
  • A rash from simple skin irritation can usually be soothed and goes away. – Try an oatmeal bath, lavender essential oils, unscented lotion for dry skin (sometimes looks like rash), and thinking about possible things that could have caused the rash. ie: new detergent, new un-washed clothes,  husband’s beard rubbed their face, you wore a new perfume/lotion/bodywash, they were sweating, outside rolling around in the grass.
  • Diaper rash– Keep your baby dry and clean. Remember less is more when it comes to creams. Also, think about what your child ate and if they are teething or not. Certain foods make my LO’s bum instantly turn red. When BK#2 is teething the instant he pees he gets a rash if not changed promptly. As with all things…if your efforts aren’t making it go away call your doctor. A yeast infection can easily be mistaken for diaper rash and it generally needs an antifungal prescribed from your pediatrician.
  • Read more here for detailed description of common rashes. Don’t do a google image search. It’s GROSS. I’m warning you now.

Ear infection .jpg

ear-infection-lg

  • Fluid builds up behind the ear drum and causes an infection.
  • Symptoms can range for ear infections. Most kids tug at their ears, run a fever, have trouble sleeping, and are really fussy. If they are older hopefully they tell you that their ears actually hurt. Some kids don’t have any real symptoms other than a fever, so it is always important for them to be seen when a persistent fever arises.
  • Pediatricians easily can diagnose an ear infection and prescribe an antibiotic.
  • Sometimes ear infections can be persistent and/or your child can be susceptible to them. So keep in mind that if it keeps occurring your doctor might start talking about other measures, like tubes, to relieve the problem. I am not trying to scare new parents, but just making you aware.
  • Want to read more? Here is a great article with the answer to just about any ear infection question you can have.

cold and flu .jpg

  • Rest! As adults we get run down and sick when we don’t rest or are over stressed. We generally feel better after some good sleep, right? If my child is sick the first thing I always do is push naps and early bedtimes!
  • Remember, that a fever is the body’s way of fighting off an infection. When your child has a low grade fever (99F-100F), that does not always need to be controlled with medication, but keep an eye on it.
  • Push fluids! Even if they don’t have an appetite be sure to keep offering water, pedialyte  juice, broth etc. If the child is old enough try warm liquids.
  •  To break up a stuffy nose or chest congestion use a cool mist humidifier, saline spray and a bulb syringe with little ones to keep their nasal passages clear.
  • Serve easy to eat foods. You don’t want to make their throat hurt even more.

rsv

  • This is a Virus that  can infection of the lungs and breathing passages.
  • Very contagious. If you have more than one child chances are the others will get it. Try and separate them if you can.
  • It generally has normal cold symptoms but the cough is a wheeze and bluish color of the skin due to lack of oxygen.
  • Even though it sounds really scary it is actually really common. Our little guy had it when he was 6 months old and I guarantee that I was way more stressed out than I needed to be. The doctor prescribed a breathing treatment and within a week he was better.
  • Beyond the breathing treatments push fluids so they don’t become dehydrated and frequently use a bulb syringe to keep their nose clear.
  • Keep in mind that children that contract RSV are at higher risk for other respiratory  infections. With all things just stay vigilant and follow doctor’s orders.

HFM.jpg

  • Usually affects children younger than 5, but can affect older children and adults.
  • It usually starts with a fever,  low appetite, and sore throat.  One or two days after the fever starts, painful sores can develop in the mouth.  They are small red spots with a blister.  A skin rash may also develop over one or two days on the palms of their hands and soles of their feet.
  • These sores are pretty painful. It is important to make sure you keep your child hydrated, because of the sores in their mouth they might not want to swallow.
  • Your doctor will prescribe medication. For older children use mouth washes to numb pain. For little ones do your best to keep them comfortable. Try orajel if allowed for their age.
  • The CDC has a TON of information about HFM here.
  • Again…don’t google…it’s gross.

strepthroat.jpgWhat-does-Strep-Throat-Look-Like.jpg

  • Symptoms of strep throat, which is very common among kids and teens, include fever,  stomach pain, red- swollen tonsils, and (depending on how it has progressed) sometimes white patches on tongue and throat.
  • Requires treatment with antibiotics.
  • I know I have said is already, but hand washing is so important. If strep throat isn’t treated it is most likely to spread the infection when the symptoms are most severe, but can still infect others for up to 3 weeks. Granted, it just looks like a normal cold at first, but you can help prevent the spread with proper germ etiquette.
  • Sometimes strep throat starts with a rash and then the severe cold symptoms start.
  • As more and more bugs become resistant to drugs, occasionally strep throat in children does not respond to the usual milder antibiotics. If your child has not improved within two to three days, contact your pediatrician.” Strep throat can get a little scary, so stay vigilant and communicate with your doctor. I guarantee they would rather see them and just say it’s a cold than have to put them on a heavy dose of antibiotics and steroids. Read more about Strep here.

Pinkeeye.jpg

pink-eye-graphic.jpg

  • Inflammation of the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids.
  • It is definitely shocking when your child wakes up with a bright red and pussy eye, but it generally won’t cause them to lose any vision.
  • Pink eye spreads incredibly fast. It is important to call your pediatrician as soon as you can, do not touch the eye, don’t let them touch their eye, and if they do immediately wash hands without touching anything else.
  • Sometimes it passes on its own, but you want your child to be seen so your doctor can tell you if it is allergies, viral, or bacterial.
  • Your pediatrician will most likely prescribe an antibiotic. You can relieve discomfort with a warm wash cloth.
  • Again with the google…don’t….just know its red, puffy and pussy sometimes.

croup

CroupGraphic.jpg

  • Croup  causes swelling and irritation of the upper airways
  • It’s caused by the same viruses that cause the common cold.
  • Kids with croup have a “barky” cough especially when crying.
  • Most common from 6 months – 3 years old
  • In most cases it will pass in time, but in some instances your doctor might want your child to be seen or to give prescribed medication. As I have said above, just call and let them know what is going on so your child can be seen to rule anything else out.
  • Breathing in moist air should help kids feel better (humidifier). Make sure they are drinking enough and getting plenty of rest.

Seasonalallergies .jpg

Dollarphotoclub_51321865-600x400.jpg

  • This is the most frustrating, because its extremely hard to differentiate between a mild cold and allergies. “Long-lasting sneezing, with a stuffy or runny nose, may signal the presence of allergic rhinitis—the collection of symptoms that affect the nose when you have an allergic reaction to something you breathe in and that lands on the lining inside the nose.”
  • If you think your child has a long lasting cold, you might want to bring up allergies to their pediatrician, especially if the parents have allergies.
  • Your pediatrician can prescribe medication, try to avoid triggers like playing in fresh cut lawn, stay hydrated, and there are also multiple natural ways to help with the symptoms. In our family we use essential oils.

I know there are plenty other illnesses that could be wrong, but these tend to be the most common culprit for sick kiddos.

Remember: If your child has to be treated with antibiotics then they were contagious, and are contagious for 24 hours after they have started antibiotics. Same with a fever. A child should be fever free for 24 hours before they return to day care/school, and normal activity with friends and siblings. I understand it’s really hard to take off work and move schedules around but the 24 hour rule really will benefit everyone. a514b9a9b291a9f93ef1fb3fcb97afb5.jpg

Try not to Google or WebMD your child’s symptoms. I know it is extremely hard not to, because we just want to fix them and make them better, but stressing yourself out and making yourself an anxious wreck  is not good for them. They need a parent with a clear and calm head to take care of them.

Make it a December to Remember

4708a49f89c43e9cd040e038d5ade059.jpgDoes anyone feel like they are on the brink of losing it? Like, all the time? This is what I have always wanted to do. Stay home with my babies, and take care of my husband, my kids, and my puppies. I wanted them to be my everything and for me to be theirs. And yet, now that it has actually happened, I still feel like I’m on this theoretical ledge all the time.

Amazing day or bad day, that ledge is right there. Just staring at me and threatening my sanity. Not everyone is as aware of that ledge as I am. Some people are, some parents have anxiety, too. I guess my question is, exactly how many? How many of us walk around trying our best and are still scared s***less 90% of the time? I d2836c2ad1fbea99ced26288a278f0f8pray, do yoga, have everything just right, and I am still wondering what else I could be doing.

Are they sleeping enough? Because I know I am not.

Do they watch too much TV?

When should they start preschool?

Is all the work I do while being a “stay at home mom” defeating the purpose of being here?

Did they hear me swear when I stubbed my foot on the table leg?

Will this be the horrible day that they remember when they are 40?

Did I encourage them enough?

How are we influencing them when we don’t know it?

Is my house clean enough?

Are they sick this time because I didn’t wash the bathroom enough?

What about the potential mold? Yeah, I should rip out the wall to check.

Are we making sure they see enough of their family members?

Am I spending enough time for myself so I’m the best I can be for them?

Did they hear the attitude in my voice when I was talking to my husband?

It. Never. Stops. Ever.c1d425c0e31df0a0bb531377ac6a98ca

Why did noone tell us about this? This never ending parent dialogue that is in our heads. Big things, little things, intelligent things, stupid things?

I have days when I feel like we are the best parents ever. We are doing everything right and giving them a better life than we could have ever dreamed of. There are also days when I wonder, “How can it possibly get worse than this?” Both toddlers screaming, both parents sleep deprived and snippy, both staring at each other like “How did this even happen?”…. and the puppy pees on the floor and runs through it.

My point? You are not alone.

No one. Parent or not. You have someone. And if you don’t feel like you do, then you certainly have someone you can talk to in me, and in this amazing little BurritoBuzz Community we have created.

During this Christmas season, I am challenging myself, and you, to treat yourself better. Take a step back and really look at what you have. I mean really look!

15203400_1343580815706208_7773401147009153584_nMy kids might  never sleep, but I have amazing kids to wake up to every single morning.

My husband might have a crazy schedule that I hate, but he is more than I could have ever dreamed of for myself and works so unbelievably hard for our little family.

My dogs might make my house messy, but they bring an extra level of love into my home that I just couldn’t ever replace.

My house might be older and need fixed from time to time, but we have a home, and a pretty perfect one at that.

I might have to go shopping before we have dinner, but we have money to go shopping with.

Bedtime is always a fight, but my kids enjoy life and don’t want to miss a single minute.  3bcfba4a5643ccb16f8443c63e1801ce.jpg

Turn your life around by flipping your attitude. Your life is no one else’s responsibility other than your own!

Parent or not, your attitude, your stress, your anxiety, and your outlook on life can only be changed by you.

It is Christmas time! Cinch that belt, because we all ate too much last week,  love yourself as much as you can, and love everyone around you. Stop beating yourself up, tell your subconscious to cool it, because it’s time to snuggle up on the couch and watch Christmas movies with your kids on repeat for the next month!

Wash with Water Organics {Review}

washwithwaterlogo .png

“Together we will protect our earth’s limited resources so our children can love, create, and live as they dream. Together we are limitless.”

We live in a world where it is truly a struggle to find the best for our children and make sure we are giving them the best future. Simple acts, like buying products from sustainable companies, can help our children now and in the future.

Wash with Water is committed to preserving the Earth’s limited resources.

washwithwaterburritobuzz

All of their products are vegan and cruelty-free!

Because they want the best for our families, their products are also free of:  Petrochemicals, Phthalates, Sulfates, Parabens, Synthetic Colors, TEA, DEA, Silicons, PEGS, Dairy, Egg, Oat, Lactoperoxidase, Citrus Seed Extract, GMOs, Triclosan, and Synthetic Dyes.

“Wash With Water is dedicated to crafting all-natural, organic skin and hair products. All of their award-winning, made-in-the-USA products are created using only ingredients chosen with the utmost care.”

The products are made using Moroccan Argan oil and Calendula so their products are ultra-gentle, and hypoallergenic. They are perfect for the most sensitive skin

I received the biG kiD best hair day set, biG kiD buBble bAth, and their biG kiD buG rePellEnt. My kids love bathtime and I couldn’t have been more excited. Bath time isn’t just washing up for us. It’s time to wind down, wash off the stress of the day, learn, play, and relax to get ready for bed.

We loved all three of these products! They are top of the line for a reason.

biG kiD best hair day set – This set is great for children and babies alike. I felt comfortable using it on my almost 3 year old and my 1 year old.

The shampoo was extremely gentle and didn’t create too many suds. It didn’t leave their hair dry or oily. My kids have very curly hair, so protecting their natural oils is extremely important. The scent for both products in the set is a very gentle citrus.

The conditioner has a pump that comes with it to make it easier to use. This conditioner was perfect for my son who has curly hair, but it is still pretty fine. With my daughter, who has very thick curls, I felt like I couldn’t get enough conditioner on her head to get the same result. In my opinion, it probably doesn’t have the correct formula of oils to saturate coarse hair. Her hair is a lot of work and I don’t hold it against a brand if the product doesn’t work. Finding the perfect products for her are still a work in progress and we have been using products for adult natural hair. If any of our readers have suggestions, feel free to comment! My son’s hair looks like a little doll’s though. Silky and perfect little curls forming without any work and detangling on my part! It is great! I am so thankful to have found something that tames his little flyaways and baby hair.

The set will run you about $40 for two 8 oz bottles. Amazon usually has it a few dollars cheaper.41SytRcZFVL.jpg

buBble bAth – My kids both adore bubble baths. It just makes bath time so much more fun! When else are you allowed to cover your sibling from head to toe in something and not get into trouble for it? There is barely any scent and it’s a light fresh “baby” scent. You do have to suds up the water yourself to create the bubbles, because there are no chemicals or additives to do it for you. I did like that they bubbles lasted the entire time the kids were in the tub, unlike some other organic bubble baths I have tried that go flat within a minute or so. An 8oz bottle runs around $17.

biG KiD buG rePellEnt – I was extremely excited about this. At the end of summer and beginning of fall, the kids tend to roll around in leaves and we stay out later for bon fires, so you need something to keep bugs away! Even though we need to protect ourselves from bugs bites, I hate all the chemicals that are in most sprays, deet especially! You can read more here. Like all of their products, it’s all natural. Instead of using harsh chemicals, it is made with eucalyptus and lemongrass essential oils. You kind of end up smelling like a citronella candle, but it’s fresh and my husband and I even used it on ourselves!  A 4oz bottle is $16.95.31og7xuthll-_sl300_

The biggest downfall with these products is the price. The brand is high quality, but not much higher than others that I have found in stores in my area. You can only find these online and they’re not in everyone’s budget. Even though they are pricey, I will definitely be purchasing the bug repellent again!

Wash with Water is based out of South Carolina. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for updates and new products!

Essential Oils for Allergies {Lavender, Peppermint & Lemon by Young Living}

younglivingallergiesburritobuzzIf you follow my posts, then you know that I am a pretty crunchy mom. When it comes to my life, and my children’s especially, I try to use the best products available. There are so many chemicals surrounding us on a daily basis, so I try to limit chemicals and artificial ingredients that we put into our bodies specifically.

I found essential oils when BK#1 was little. You can read about Tummy Gize and how I use it here. I also use oils for teething, you can read about that here. Last year, I found a blend that works wonders for our family’s allergies. I have some pretty rough seasonal allergies, my husband has seasonal allergies and some specific allergies, and our littles definitely inherited them unfortunately. Thankfully, right now,  it just seems like the babies have seasonal allergies. Their pediatrician prescribed some over the counter allergy medication. They didn’t really help, so she then prescribed prescription strength medicine. After  some time, I didn’t see much of a change in symptoms even though my one year old was taking medication every single day. I consulted with our pediatrician and we decided to start exploring some natural remedies for their allergies before extensive allergy testing and medications.lrj2b.jpg

I started diffusing a blend of peppermint, lavender, and lemon and saw immediate results. Not only were the results immediate, but they were continuous. They are still working. Any time the kids are having any allergy symptoms, I diffuse the blend and their sniffles subside within minutes. As an adult, I not only notice my runny nose and sniffles disappear, but my sinuses are clear! If you have allergies, you know how amazing this feels.

***Before I go into how it works, I need to preface with the fact that I am not a Young Living rep, nor am I being paid to endorse Young Living***

I have done the research and tested multiple other brands. Young Living is the best quality and works the best. You can find many different brands at many different price points for your budget. But like most things, you get what you pay for. It is just that simple.

HOW TO USE

Apply:

  • Always dilute with a carrier oil (like coconut) for little ones.
  • Apply to base of neck.
  • Apply to bottom of feet and put on socks.
  • I apply Lavender alone on my cheekbones and bridge of my nose for sinus pressure relief.
  • You can also make a roller ball using equal parts of each oil for travel and to have the oil already mixed on hand.

YOUNGLIVINGBURRITOBUZZALLERGYSEASONDIFFUSER.jpgDiffuse:

  •  I diffuse for the kids 95% of the time.
  • I use this diffuser instead of an expensive one from Young Living and it works great and has never broken. (I have a Young Living diffuser that has died)
  • Fill diffuser to fill line with water then add 5 drops Lavender, 4 drops Lemon, and 3 drops Peppermint. I put the diffuser in whatever room we are in and it runs for around 6 hours before I need to refill.
  • Depending on the severity of their symptoms, I diffuse 24/7 or just in the morning when they wake with sniffles.

Ingest:

  • Add 1 drop of each oil to 1 teaspoon of local honey for children. For adults, use 2-3 drops of each oil.
  • It is an oil, so it will be a little rough on the pallet. Just use a chaser like a glass of water.

Peppermint and Children

Always be safe with your oils. Especially with peppermint. Peppermint is one of the most effective essential oils for respiratory infections and congestion, but it can be dangerous for young children. It can slow breathing, so be sure to always use a safe diluted amount. There are many different opinions and ages that are suggested. Some say don’t use under age 3, some say it’s safe as long as it’s diluted. Our pediatrician said that she felt it was safe if heavily diluted or diffused. I don’t apply blends with peppermint to my little ones, but there is plenty of research saying that if applied safely, it is okay to use. I just worry so much as it is, so I completely avoid applying it since diffusing the blend works so perfectly already. Please read more about oil safety here.

Fall is my favorite season, but our bodies don’t like the weather changes as much as I do. I am so glad to have found a natural solution! I hope this blend helps you as much as it helps my family.

mommy’s BLISS {Review}

mommysbliss-logoWhen you are a new mom, there are a lot of facts and products being shoved in your face. You really don’t even know where to begin, what advice is legit, and what products you actually need v. the products that people just loved but would be useless to you. When my doctor prescribed vitamin D drops and suggested probiotic drops (I was EBF my daughter), I followed her advice. But I quickly learned that there are so many options, not only that, but there are so many opinions on your options.

Who knew life could be so complicated?

Mommy’s BLISS made my life a little easier two years ago when I had a colicy baby and they continue to make awesome products today! Their line takes the guessing out of choices. You don’t have to worry about additives or additional problems on top of the ones you are trying to treat with the medication.

All of mommy’s BLISS products have: no additives, chemicals or parabens, no artificial flavors or colors, no dairy, no gluten, and no soy. They are also 100% vegan and vegetarian.

Mommy’s BLISS actually contacted me and sent me their new products a few weeks ago and I have been waiting to write this post so I could be sure that I used them to their full potential! I have to say, I am very impressed with their new products and so excited to  share some secrets with you!

VITAMIN D ORGANIC DROPS71PQlouMpxL._SX522_.jpg

Let’s start with why breastfed babies need vitamin D drops.

“The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all babies receive routine vitamin D supplementation (400 IU per day) due to decreased sunlight exposure and an increase in rickets-Vitamin D deficiency”

The babies who do need these supplements need them due to a lack of sufficient sunlight, which is the best way to get your vitamin D. For example, with my Ohio babies, it’s far too cold to go outside and play in the sun half of the year, so vitamin D drops are necessary. Also, if you are darker skinned, it takes more sun exposure to absorb vitamin D.

A formula fed baby most likely would not need any vitamin supplements because their formula is fortified with vitamin D. A breastfeeding mom is most likely deficient in vitamin D (unless you take a supplement yourself, you have a pretty good chance of being deficient), so doctors advise you to give your newborn a supplement every day.

Vitamin D helps with healthy growth and bone development. It is not something to take lightly. But neither are all the chemicals and additives that are in some drops. The products are made for newborns. You would think that it would be a requirement to be the best possible product. But it’s not, so parents are left staring at boxes and weighing the risks of the additives and chemicals for their tiny humans.

These vitamin D drops are USDA certified organic and free of any type of chemical or additive! You are giving your child only what they need. Even though I don’t have a newborn, I still give my 2 year old vitamin D drops (under her pediatrician’s guidance). BK#1 is extremely picky, going through the phase that most toddlers go through, and refuses to eat and drink most of the time. I worry about her getting proper nutrients and growing properly. So far so good, but as a parent, you worry. You can’t help it.

My favorite thing about these drops is the amount needed daily. Just one drop. You don’t have to struggle getting a full syringe into your newborn or toddler for that matter. I sneak a drop on the top of her sippy before she takes a drink and voila, no tantrum because I had to hold her down and give her meds. There is no scent or taste either!

Mommy’s Bliss Vitamin D Organic Drops, 0.11 Fluid Ounce

PROBIOTIC DROPS + VITAMIN D & 15 DAY BOOST81+CQR1kx7L._SY679_.jpg

When BK#1 was an infant, this would have been a Godsend! My tiny little angel had colic like nobody’s business. I can’t even begin to explain how tired we were. I suppose I should write about that experience, but colic is not fun for anyone. It leaves you feeling like a zombie with literally zero brain cells because every parental instinct you have to comfort them just doesn’t work. She cried all the time and absolutely nothing we did helped. The evenings were the worst with no break at all. Finally, after trying every possible solution, we tried probiotics and we finally found some relief! She slept. She stopped crying. She was happy.

New parents, talk to your doctor! Save yourself and your baby and try probiotics.

If you want to learn more about how they work, read this amazing article.

“Probiotics are living microorganisms that scientific research has shown to benefit human health. Most commonly these are bacteria, but they may also be yeasts. In some cases they are similar to, or the same as, the microbes already found in a healthy digestive tract. Many probiotics were originally isolated from common fermented foods such as yogurt. Mommy’s Bliss Baby Probiotic Drops contain the live culture Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, the most widely studied probiotic in the world with over 800 scientific publications attesting to the safety and healthfulness of these beneficial bacteria. Like all dietary supplements you should discuss the use of probiotics with your baby’s doctor.” source Mommy’s Bliss Probiotic Drops Plus Vitamin D, 0.34 Fluid Ounce

Mommy’s BLISS created an amazing probiotic and vitamin D blend to help parents skip a step! No need to keep track of two medications. Not only is it two medications in one, but it’s the same price of any other probiotic on the market! You are definitely getting the better deal with mommy’s BLISS.81h9L3vRlIL._SX522_.jpg

If you don’t have a baby that has colic, you still might want to consider probiotic drops if your child gets sick, to help balance their immune and digestive system. The Mommy’s Bliss Probiotic Drops 15 Day Boost, 0.2 Fluid Ouncewas created to help replenish beneficial bacteria and may help with occasional diarrhea. Antibiotic use may cause occasional diarrhea* and digestive upset.*

Parents, it actually works! My littles were passing a tummy bug back and forth and this had them back to their normal selves and solid bowels much faster than anything ever has. It’s definitely something that I will be keeping in my medicine cabinet from now on.

Mommy’s BLISS is a great company! Learn more about them and why I think they are so great on there site here and be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to get awesome tips and parenting advice.

Caron & Doucet Cutting Board Wax {Review}

caron-doucet-inc

As a parent, I don’t just love to save money, I need to save money. There are diapers to think about, clothes, college… the list is never ending. As a parent, you try to keep everything in your home in the best condition as possible so you don’t have to replace things as often, right? When it comes to my home, I like to keep things simple and natural, but it’s really hard to do that without going broke. It seems like everything that is good for you and natural is double the price of the things that are not so good for you. It’s sad really, but I have found a way to make something I use every day last longer.

My cutting board! I have both plastic and wood cutting boards, but I like the wood ones better, simply because they’re better for you. Plastic cutting boards can harbor bacteria and chemicals, and you don’t need that in your food. Wood can too, but you can’t gouge a wood cutting boacutting-board-oil-waxrd as easily to create crevices that bacteria can grow in. There seems to be a lot of back and forth about this subject, but the simple fact is, wood boards last longer. You can read more about bacteria and cutting boards here.

Personally, I like wood kitchen accessories better anyways. With this fact, I have to take care of them. Wood doesn’t last forever if it’s not taken care of properly and many people don’t even know that you’re supposed to take care of your wood cutting boards and chopping blocks.

Why do they need special treatment? Wood cutting boards can be damaged if they are exposed to too much moisture or allowed to get very dry, so think like a chef and take care of those cooking accessories you spend so much money on and time using. Good cooking tools are not cheap, but if you take proper care of them, they can last you a lifetime and save you from replacing your plastic cutting board every 6 months (as recommended)! My parents have my grandmother’s huge chopping block that has to be at least 30 years old and it still looks new. How? She took very good care of it!am0c3408

Simply by waxing and oiling your wood boards, they will last so much longer and look like new when you wax them!  And Caron & Doucet Cutting Board Wax is the perfect product to have stashed under your sink.

  • It creates a “durable and easy to clean” finish on any wood and bamboo kitchenware.
  • Prevents liquids that can cause stains or water damage.
  • Can be used on wood and bamboo cutting boards, butcher blocks, countertops, knife handles, and whatever else you might have that needs protection.
  • Created using rice bran wax. Rice bran wax is one of the hardest of natural waxes, giving wood a remarkably durable protective finish. It has a higher boiling point than most waxes, such as bees wax, so you aren’t going to rub it off during washing or if you are using it on a bamboo spoon, etc.
  • The pure essential oils of lemon, rosemary, and lemongrass were chosen for this product to naturally help eliminate unwanted food odors from food preparation surfaces.

It’s a simple step after washing and drying! Apply a thin layer of the wax to the surface of your cutting board using a clean cloth. Polish to a matte sheen and re-apply when wood starts to appear dull. It takes 2 minutes and your hands will feel fabulous after! It’s like a mini spa trip!

This before and after of my personal board, it is so awesome! 14371997_546361035558088_507740657_n-2

This photo has different lighting, but notice how all gouges are gone and how smooth it is!

The only bad thing I have to say is that it is a little pricey at $14.95 for a little 4 oz. tin. You can purchase it Here. But honestly, this tin could quite possibly last you an entire year, depending on how often you use it, so it’s totally worth the price!

I am off to go wax all of my bamboo spoons now! I found this product at 34Orange.com, be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for tips, tricks, and inspiration in the kitchen!

Delta DX Side by Side Stroller {Review}

delta-double-stroller-burritobuzz1

I had been dragging my feet about getting a second double stroller. We have an awesome hand-me-down double jogger that has been well loved, but it’s perfect until it’s not. Almost all double strollers have three things in common:

THEY ARE HUGE, HEAVY AND EXPENSIVE.

Just about every single one on the market. I got to thinking, how long are they really going to tolerate sitting in a stroller? Is it worth spending $300 on the one I really want? In the end my answer was no, it was most definitely not worth it. Even though I didn’t see the value in a super expensive, but more compact double stroller, I also needed something to help me out.

You can’t baby wear all the time. I do a lot, but in some situations it’s just not the easiest. Don’t even get me started on tandem wearing toddlers. Good grief is it a hassle. When we were getting ready to go on vacation, I decided that we had to get something. Long walks, back and forth to the pool, shopping, going in and out of attractions, whatever vacation might bring, I didn’t want to be chasing my toddler and fighting my one year old to stay on my back. I asked some friends what they used and came across this gem of a stroller.

I always thought that umbrella strollers were cheap and not worth my money, but I was incredibly wrong!

Details:

  • Super compact fold for travel and storage. I  can literally shove it under their seats behind my seat, it’s super small!Delta Double Stroller BurritoBuzz3.jpg
  • Two separate canopies
  • Soft and comfortable handles
  • 360 degree shock absorbing, locking front wheels
  • Large 6”front and back wheels
  • Back wheel brakes
  • JPMA certified and exceeds all ASTM and applicable CPSC standards
  • Assembled Dimensions (in inches): 22.8 (width) by 36.8 (height) by 18.5 (depth)
  • Weight: 19.16 lbs
  • Each seat has a 35 lb weight limit
  • Fits through standard 30″ wide doorways
  • Cup holder with 2 attachment points and 2 hanging storage bags
  • Foot push to collapse and one lever to secure close

Pros:Delta Double Stroller BurritoBuzz2 .jpg

  • Assembly was a breeze. All you had to do was pop the wheels on and take some plastic off. It literally took me two minutes.
  • Super easy to move! You can push it with one finger with the kids in it.
  • It fits through doors! I haven’t had a door that I couldn’t get through and because it is so compact, you don’t have to have anyone hold the door open for you to get through.
  • The 35 lb weight limit is great! I know I am going to get a lot of use out of this even though I have large toddlers.
  • It’s a very smooth ride. I can go in and out of stores, through door ways, over hills, up embankments and over gravel, and my kids stay asleep.
  • It’s not heavy! I can carry my one year old on one hip, fold the stroller and get it in the car. Thank you Stroller Gods!
  • Tiny, tiny, tiny. You can fit this stroller into any car and it’s great for travel when you have more than your stroller to put in your trunk. My big jogger literally takes up my entire cargo area.
  • Cup holder fits adult cups!
  • Reflective material. The white stripes are reflective, so if you take evening walks, you don’t have to worry about pushing a black stroller and no one seeing it.
  • It’s inexpensive but high quality. I’ve had this stroller for about a month and have used it almost daily. There is no sign of any wear and tear and nothing feels cheap or like it’s going to break. If I didn’t tell you that it was cheap, you wouldn’t know it!
Delta Children City Street Side by Side Stroller, Black

Delta Double Stroller BurritoBuzz4.jpg
Cons:

  • The canopies are small and don’t really do a whole lot. I didn’t purchase it with a canopy in mind, but after a few times of walking directly into the sun, I wish I would have taken the very small canopy into consideration. I throw an Aden + Anais swaddle` over them and it’s fine, but that’s not always convenient.
  • The wheels are super small, making rough terrain difficult to navigate.
  • The description on their site and on Amazon says that it has a “Large Under-Frame Storage Bag” and it does not. I thought I would be able to slide a diaper bag under the seats or something and that is not the case. There are the two small hanging bags on the back of the seat that work nicely for a few diapers and wipes, but that is about all they can hold.
  • Advertised as a 5 point harness and it’s not.
  • The handles are short (as are most umbrella strollers). I am 5’4″ and I have no problem, but my 5’11” husband wasn’t too happy with them after a  while. 11601-007-delta-city-st-side-by-side-stroller-black-plaid-front-hi-res_1024x1024

Overall, this stroller is amazing! My complaints are small and I do not regret purchasing it at all. A few changes would make it a little better, but for the amazing price, it can’t be beat! If you have a second little one on the way, this is definitely a must have!

Momma’s Little Helper Day Planner {Review}

14248846_1255458487851775_780646304_nAs parents, we know that time management is essential. So essential that we write things down, put alarms on our phones, put sticky notes throughout our homes, we sync our phone’s calendars with your spouse’s and if you’re like me, you also put everything into a physical planner.

Maybe it’s overkill, maybe I am crazy, but this mom-brain that I have going on is no joke. It starts out as pregnancy-brain because your tiny little human is sucking out your brain cells, and then it turns into exhaustion that I am pretty sure is never ending.

I couldn’t have been happier when Momma’s Little Helper contacted us! With the school year starting, I have zero time to forget things and my old planner was just about done.

This day planner is not like any other because it was made specifically with busy moms. From cover to cover, it is detailed and designed to make your life easier!

13227678_1680849522171169_5007254839125998006_o.jpgAbout this awesome day planner:

  • It comes in two styles, flowers and damask.
  • “Academic planner.” There is plenty of room to write down assignments and projects you have to help your kids with, as well as school functions, classmate info and much more.
  • Plenty of space for your agenda & notes
  • Pockets on the inside of front and back covers.
  • Notes pages for each month unlike most planners with just a small column or one page in the back.
  • August 2016 – July of 2017 and their 2017 January to December daily & weekly planners will be available in October 2016.
  • 240 pages gives you plenty of space to write down to-do lists and whatever else you may need.
  • Inspirational quotes and tips on every page.
  • Awesome price! Currently it’s only $12.95.
  • For stay at home moms: my planner stays in my diaper bag or purse almost 100% of the time. I like to physically write things down to help me remember them. I like that there are pages for emergency numbers, household contacts and family medical information. If I leave my kids at the sitter’s or a sitter is at my house, I can simply show them where to find the info without having to worry if they know everything in case of an emergency.
  • It’s small! It is only 8.5″ x 6″, so it fits in most purses and diaper bags. The pockets are the perfect size for receipts, notes, coupons, whatever odds and ends you might not want floating around your bag.
  • Space for to-do lists and other lists right inside the planner
  • For working moms: (Katie here, your resident working mom, busy body) I utilize a planner every single day. Not only would I lose my mind without a physical planner, but I also love to look back at my old planners and be nostalgic (you know, about years when I was busy going to the movies and on dates instead of arranging child care and pediatric appointments). I plan my life months in advance, so it’s ideal to be able to have a paper planner in front of me so that I can quickly flip to a date to see what I already have planned.
img_4294
Nice, long columns for all of the important stuff I need to keep track of!

Likes: the front pocket. The front pocket of my planner usually contains all kinds of chaos that has been paper-clipped in. Now, I have a nice little pocket to hoard all kinds of ridiculous things in. The detailed front pages are fantastic. While I personally will never utilize any of the cooking tip pages (trophy wife of the year, I know) I’m sure plenty of other moms will love these pages. The tips at the top are fabulous. I love random trivia anyway, so I really love seeing it on each page. The layout is great and leaves plenty of space for details, and the quality of the planner is also really good.

Dislikes: I wish this planner had tabs like my current one does. Each month in my current planner has an easy-to-find tab that makes flipping through really easy. While this isn’t a huge downfall, it’s a nice perk and would be great to see in the next edition of this planner. Also, I find that this product could easily be marketed towards dads, too. Stay at home dads, working dads, coaches and dads that just like to use planners would also find it very beneficial. I’d like to see a product geared towards parents putting us all on a level playing field (though, if I saw my husband using a planner I might actually die of shock. He isn’t exactly organized).

img_4291
Old planner on the left (almost outdated) and new planner on the right. Comparable in size and quality!

If you’re looking for a way to organize your day to day activities, Momma’s Little Helper is definitely the way to go. Be sure to check them out on Facebook and Instagram!

Happy planning!

27 Steps to Being an Awesome Stay-at- Home-Mom

howtobeanawesomestayathomemom

  1. Wake up before your kids.
  2. Schedule your meals and cook ahead to save time.
  3. Always plan time for your own physical activity.
  4. Have a set routine.
  5. Be sure to have naptime and meals at the same time every day.
  6. Schedule your cleaning and only tackle one chore a day.
  7. Don’t forget to have play dates.
  8. This list is a bunch of crap… Sorry about the click bait.

If you’re a stay at home parent, you’re laughing hysterically at this list because 99% of the time all of those are virtually impossible.

I am so sick of seeing Mommy Blog posts about “How to be a Stay at Home Mom”

10 Things To Ensure You Are A Great Stay At Home Mom

6 Ways To Be A Productive Stay At Home Mom

How To Afford Being a Stay At Home Mom

Habits of an Effective Stay At Home Mom

It’s all a bunch of malarkey. You want to know why? Because it looks different for every single mom. Heck, sometimes it looks completely different and it’s a stay at home dad.**gasp** I’m guilty though, because yes, I do click on and read almost all of them. Hoping and praying that somehow this little circus that I got myself into can be more manageable. 210037d0f899f9dc49d3d5edf759ee48.jpgHonestly, I wish I had an answer for all of your stay at home mom questions, but I don’t. I have tips and tricks that have worked for me and my family, but I guarantee that they won’t work for everyone.

What will help is some brutal honesty.

You will never sleep. Like ever. It just doesn’t happen. We get the kids to bed, I try to get some chores done, spend time with my husband, get ready for bed and by the time I am in bed it is 11pm. In two or three hours, my 2 year old will be up wandering the halls asking for her soccer ball or something ridiculous. After getting her back to bed, I lay back down and generally get another 2 hours of sleep because one or both of my little ones are up at 5 AM every day. Every single day. Today it was 4:45…2e2b5526ce131e18a20537f492be2c1a

3 or 4 hours of sleep at night on repeat. My husband works nights,  so sleep is just out of the questions for like, ever. Getting up early for “me time” and to get ready for the day is hilarious.

I have some OCD tendencies but I despise housework. It’s not that I don’t do it. My house is almost always spotless. Especially if we are planning on having company over. I do it, but that doesn’t mean I like it. Your chores never go away. It is a constant stream of dishes, laundry, vacuuming, picking up, dusting, washing the floors, cleaning up outside, cleaning up after pets, picking up toys. Your house never gets a break. No one is at work and daycare all day. It is constantly getting filthy. It might not stay that way for long, but you never stop moving. Between chasing kids and picking up toys, you don’t sit down a whole lot. I never understand when people say they love doing dishes or laundry. I never used to hate it, but I do now. It’s a constant chore that never ends. Someone always has something dirty in their room or on them, and there is always a sippy cup or snack cup hidden away that needs washed.87322a94dfae2c55e7abf4b3e472b313

I told my husband the other day that I am an awesome stay at home mom but I suck at being a housewifeThere are many days when I am asked what’s for dinner and the answer is “whatever you can find and you better use paper products.”

It’s hard. Our job is never done.

Your coworkers like to touch you a lot, they are mean sometimes and they don’t do a whole lot of work.  Quietly sitting at the computer typing this post and que the 2 year old that just jumped on my back requesting a “pony ride.”  There is also a 1 year old over in the corner emptying a basket full of freshly folded clothes on top of the very hairy lab.

You’re never alone. There isn’t a lot of explanation for this. It’s simple. You are your children’s everything, so that means they have to be attached to you all day long. Good luck with your coffee break. I just warmed mine up for the 3rd time this morning.6.png

People will ask you if you want help all the time.  Believe it or not, I really can do this. I have two kids and taking them to the store with me is my job. Cleaning my house with kids at home is my job, among many other things.

I will let you spend time with my kids, and sometimes, yes you do need to get out, but I promise you can do chores and things without people helping you all the time. Help is nice. I have been getting better about letting people give me a hand, but just be warned. People have this attitude that because you didn’t wash your hair today that you must need help. It’s annoying and approaching disrespectful. If I was anyone else doing a hard job, would you offer to give me a break because I had a long day? This is a 24/7 job and I am well aware that I signed up for a crazy job.

When are you getting a real job? ……Please ask me that one more time, I dare you. People even say “I just could never stay home and not work, I would have to get a real job and provide for my child.” So when you are at your “real job”, do you hire a real person to watch your kids or a fake one? People are ignorant, say it to your face and want an actual answer, like what they said wasn’t the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard. I am warning you now, if you haven’t heard it already, you will.14088651_1756641454589235_5618134841622901219_n.jpg

Being a homebody isn’t a bad thing. I love being at home. Ever heard of yoga pants and leggings?  An endless supply of coffee and baby breath? Keep it coming. I literally have to pump myself up to go out with friends. Don’t get me wrong, I love my friends. I love spending time with other adults. I know it is important. I just like my kids, my coffee, my Netflix and my blog more than dinner and drinks.

“Affording” to be a stay at home mom isn’t easy. Affording is in quotes because I am still trying to figure that out. I am not a couponer. I shop sales and I shop at Aldi. We don’t do a lot of extra stuff, we are a middle class suburban family and I am happy that way. We don’t always get all the new shiny things we want, and there are times that I look back at a month when we had extra expenses and wonder how we did it. But you make it. I promise that there is always a way that things work out. All we knew was that we could pay all of our bills and a little more on one income, that we wanted the kids to have me 24/7, until they were at least in school and that we were going to make it work.83ec59e162040d21c114725fb105aa92

You will never regret the decision to stay home and it is so much fun! I have always wanted to be a stay at home mom. Luckily, my dream came true. Such a simple dream. There is never a bad day when I say “if I could just clock out and go to work.” You will never regret getting extra time with your kids. Getting to see every single milestone unfold before your eyes. Teaching them everything and watching them learn from you. It really is a gift. Don’t take it lightly and don’t brag to your working mom friends about it either.

Not everyone can do it. Being a stay at home mom is not for everyone and there is nothing wrong with that. Working parents are beyond awesome! I have a friend who is an amazing mother but would lose her mind if she was surrounded by her kids all day. Not everyone can do it and that’s completely normal. If you are a working parent, don’t feel bad about working. You spend time and teach your children in your own way, and provide them with awesome caregivers.

Time is fleeting and whatever time we get with our tiny humans is a blessing.

Now that this written  maybe I wrote it for myself, to make me feel better. I don’t know. I just hope that someone can relate and has days where they feel like this is the craziest job on the planet, too. ❤

Moldy Munchkin & I Are Breaking Up

012096-miracle-sippy-cup-360-pink-lc3_1.jpgIt really is no secret that the Burrito Buzz moms have a love-hate relationship with sippy cups. We try and tell you about the ones we love and the ones that we hate. Sippy cups are part of life with kids. There’s no way to get around it. Either it’s an awesome cup or it leaks and makes you want to smash it into a million little pieces.

A certain company has yet to leave our “hate it” list. Not only do we hate it, this mama bear is pretty furious. I have yet to try a Munchkin sippy cup that didn’t eventually stain a carpet, dump all over my kid or be impossible to clean thoroughly. We have told you guys about it here and here. I knew it was too good when the so called “Miracle Cup” rarely leaked and my toddlers liked it!

THE MOLDY LIDBurritoBuzzMolyCup

I received the 360 Miracle Cup as a “gift” when two of my sound machines both stopped working and it took over a month to get them replaced. I was thankful that even after a pretty rough customer service experience, they were trying to make up for it.

It is a simple cup with only three pieces that you can take apart. There is one piece that you can not take off though. The little rubber ring that gives it a tight seal is not something you can remove. Munchkin-Miracle-360-Degree-10-Oz-Sippy-Cup-Colors-May-Vary-0-6

Well, this evening I was drying it off and noticed little gray spots. The ring is clear and tightly secured to the cup. I never thought to take it off because you can’t. I ran my nail under it try and a little pile of black junk came out. Gross! I literally had to take a steak knife, pry it away and then use another knife to flip it off. The pictures speak for themselves. It is absolutely disgusting and I really hope my child does not get sick from this.BurritoBuzzmoldycupThis is the same lid as above, just the opposite side.

Before Munchkin can give their spiel about how you are supposed to properly clean the cup, like I have seen on other complaints, I will tell you that it is always cleaned promptly and properly. This cup gets rinsed, taken apart and washed after every single use. It doesn’t sit around the house all day, nor does it sit in the sink for days on end. Not only is it washed, but it is also put in the top rack of my dishwasher to get sanitized. Or so I thought…

Parents, please be sure to toss these cups so your littles don’t get sick from them!

Be sure to share with your friends so they can check their cups to!

Weleda Skin Care For Moms & Babies {GIVEAWAY!}

We all want the best for our little ones. Many children have sensitive skin and/or allergies. The worst thing about it is, as a parent, it is so hard to figure out what causes your child’s sensitive skin. My little girl has always had sensitive skin. She breaks out all the time and most of the time, we have no idea what caused it. I am really hoping that she grows out of it, but in the meantime, I seek out organic and extremely gentle products for my babies.

The Weleda Baby Calendula line is absolutely fantastic for allergy prone skin.

First of all, calendula is a flower that is used in multiple ways for health and wellness, but it is mainly used for skin care and as an anti-inflammatory. It is a great moisturizer, helps reduce pain and  helps soothe irritated skin. Weleda’s flowers are organically grown in their own gardens in Germany. Weleda has an extensive line of creams, oils, and soaps for all your baby care needs.

ALL OF THEIR PRODUCTS ARE:

  • Certified natural and dermatologist tested safe for babies.
  • Free of parabens and other chemical preservatives, synthetic fragrance and petroleum ingredients.
  • Not tested on animals
  • Free of GMOs

Diaper Rash Cream

This cream is one of the best I have used in a long time! BK#2 has horrible diaper rash on a regular basis. Any time he cuts a tooth or a dirty diaper doesn’t get changed immediately, he breaks out in a rash and even gets blisters. It’s absolutely heart breaking and I wish I could just let him stay in the nude all the time to help prevent it. This cream got rid of a bumpy and horrifying red rash in one diaper change.

Cloth diaper friendly cream! 8813.jpg

It’s thick, but creamy and easily wipes from your finger without leaving a horrible smell.

Key ingredients include: calendula flower extract, sweet almond oil, clary sage oil, beeswax and 12% zinc oxide.

A 2.8oz tube is priced at $14. I found this to be the only downside because it is pretty expensive for such a small tube. Right now it is pretty well discounted on amazon at $8.45, so I will probably be placing an order here soon.
Weleda Calendula Baby Diaper Rash Cream 2.8-Ounce

Body Cream

9652This is a pretty typical cream. I felt it was more of a lotion than a cream. It is pretty thin and absorbs fairly quickly. As all of the calendula products do, this smells amazing! It’s the perfect amount moisture to keep your little one’s skin nourished daily, but is rich enough that it soothes dry and irritated skin. I have really sensitive, dry, and eczema prone skin, so I was slathering it on and I really like it!

This body cream doubles as a diaper cream as a preventative barrier when your baby doesn’t have a rash.

Key ingredients: calendula, sesame oil, lanolin and almond oil.

A 2.5oz bottle is $12.50 but it’s on sale right now on Amazon! Weleda Baby Calendula Baby Cream 2.5 oz

Face Cream

9661.jpgThe face cream was just a little thicker than the body cream and it smelled exactly the same. My littles don’t really get dry skin on their face, but they had awful baby acne and flakey faces as infants so I am sure this would have a God send when they were tiny. There aren’t many lotions specifically for a baby’s face.

Infants get the most random rashes on their faces and most of the time the doctors can’t or won’t do anything because they are so little. A baby face cream gives you the ability to soothe your baby without having to resort to any type of prescriptions.

Key ingredients: sweet almond oil, calendula, lanolin, and beeswax

IIt’s a little more pricey, but again, it’s cheaper on Amazon at $8.16! Seeing a pattern yet? BurritoBuzz moms love Amazon! Weleda Baby Calendula Face Cream, 1.7-Ounce

Shampoo and Body Wash

I really liked this wash. It wasn’t heavily scented, didn’t bubble up too much and get in their eyes, and it cleaned up any sticky mess my babies were covered in at the end of the day. The wash also has just enough moisture in it to not need a conditioner for babies that have a lot of hair. It left my babies with silky soft curly locks!

It’s tear free and naturally fragranced with essential oils, so there is no worry about the suds getting in tiny and delicate little eyes.

Ingredients: calendula, coco-glucoside, disodium cocoyl glutamate,

I will most definitely be purchasing this again because it worked really well and it is priced right at $13 for 6.8oz. Weleda Calendula Baby Shampoo and Body Wash, 6.8-Ounce

Weleda Baby (1).JPG

Baby Oil

I know not everyone uses baby oil on their babies and kids, but I love it. I have super dry easily-irritated skin, so I try to keep up with theirs as much as I can. Baby oil gives them just a little bit more than a lotion would to lock in all the moisture. I generally only put it on them after a bath and before bed. That way it has all night to soak in. This has such a mild scent and I didn’t feel like I was overwhelming them with scent like some that I have used. It absorbs extremely fast and doesn’t leave a residue if you get it on clothes. The only down side is the hole in the spout is pretty large. I have had much more than I wanted come out multiple times!

Key Ingredients: calendula, chamomile and sesame oil

Priced at $17.50 for 6.85 oz but I feel like this will probably last me a very long time. Well worth the price! Weleda Calendula Baby Oil, 6.8 Ounce

Stretch Mark Massage Oilweleda_stretch_mark_massage_oil.jpg

My littles left me looking like a tiger. Not just on my belly but everywhere! I am talking my stomach, thighs, calves and chest. I blew up like a balloon. I always try any stretch mark oil that I can get my hands on!

This oil was great. It wasn’t sticky or thick and didn’t leave much of a residue.

I didn’t have much of a result with the oil, but man it was nice. I did notice that my stretch marks were slightly lighter and not as rough around the edges. So that’s a big plus! I’m sure with more time it will do more!

A 3.4 oz bottle is $25.50 but on Amazon, it’s only $15! Weleda: Pregnancy Body Oil for Stretch Marks, 3.4 oz

Nursing Tea

Weleda Nursing Tea is a blend of 100% organic herbs that supports lactation and soothes digestion. Organic fenugreek seed, used traditionally to increase milk supply, is mixed with organic anise seed, organic fennel seed and other organic herbs to help ease digestion, for both mother and baby.

You get 20 bags in a box for $12.50. Nursing Tea Weleda 20 Bag

ergoPouch Summer Baby Sleeping Bag {Review}

My little ones never stay covered at night, especially my youngest! He is constantly tossing, turning, and throwing things out of his crib. In the winter, we used a Halo Sleepsack. But for summer, I could not find one that would keep him at the right temperature. More times than I would like, he would wake up soaked in sweat. It was such a struggle.

ergoPouch recently sent me their summer sleeping bag to try out this summer. We have been using it for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it! It’s best for 24C (75f) degrees, making it great for hot summer days and nights.bamboo_sheeting_stripes_900x900_2.jpg

This is a very soft sleep bag, it is a super soft sheet-like material giving the perfect layer to cover your baby, but so breathable and luxurious. If your baby still wakes during the night for feedings, then you know how annoying it is to take clothes off to change a diaper. The two way zipper is awesome for diaper changes or just to let your little one have their feet out of they like. Their infant swaddles also have this and makes it awesome for transferring to bouncer or seat safely.

I found the sizing a little larger than other sleep sacks that I have used. We have the 12-36 month and it was a good 6 inches taller than my 2T little man. It was a little awkward at first, but didn’t really bother him and was still super cute. I have machine washed and dried the sleeping back multiple times and it still looks just like new. It definitely holds up really well as there are no signs of wear and tear.

EPSleepSuitBagDetail.jpgergoPouch offers many products and I will definitely be looking into more of them for my children for this coming winter. Swaddles, sleeping bags, sleep suit bags, sleep accessories, pajamas, and even PJs for mommy!  You can check out all of their awesome products here! Currently, there are some on sale. I know I will definitely will be taking advantage of this sale!

Prices of the sleep sack varies, but is typical for a blanket or sleep sack. The summer sleeping bag is $39.99.twosie_side.jpg

Keep a lookout on Instagram and their Facebook page for regular updates. Right now they are looking for people to try out their new sleeping bag!

I can’t wait for this product to be available in more stores in the US because it is definitely a must for a baby registry!
