Flying Squirrel. A New Kind Of Sleep Sack by Sleeping Baby. *GIVEAWAY!*

sleepingbabyburritobuzz
…notice blanket all the way at the end of his bed!

Every night I sneak into our baby’s room to re-tuck him back in and ensure his room is warm enough. Some nights I used to even turn the heat up in the house just to make sure he was warm. The winter months are brutal here in Ohio and our little one makes it worse by NEVER staying covered up. I always thought sleep sacks, and ‘toddler sleeping bags’ were unnecessary and ridiculous looking. A cozy fuzzy blanket is MUCH cuter. We are well past the stage of not being allowed to have extra bedding in his bed, so swaddles and sacks shouldn’t be needed, right? WRONG. BK#2 HATES being covered. He appeases us, snuggles up with his lovey, lets us cover him with an adorable Aden & Anias dream blanket, and then the second that we walk out of his room he pushes it to the opposite end of his crib. Really kid?!?!

Thus, began the search for the perfect toddler sleeping solution. I really wanted a way to help my baby sleep without waking, because he was cold, but he is much too old for traditional swaddles. I found some awesome sleep sacks, but the fact that they are a sack makes him pretty mad. He was getting used to it, but I kept on searching to find something to keep him warm AND happy.

I FOUND THE BEST SOLUTION FOR ALL AGES!our-brands-zipadeezip.jpg

Sleeping Baby has the perfect products for infants transitioning out of swaddles, for toddlers like mine refusing to stay covered and warm at night, for preschoolers needing a sleep solution for nap time at school, even teethers,  and necklaces for mom!

Sleeping Baby is AMAZING COMPANY with an even better story. They truly have a heart for their customers and LOVE what they do! They started their company making something to transition their daughter out of the traditional swaddle and created the revolutionary Zipadee-Zip, that was discovered and aired on Shark Tank! I could go on and on about this couple, because they are truly an inspiration to all parents to follow your dreams and to do what is best for you and your family, but I really want to talk about the FLYING SQUIRREL so I encourage you to read all about it here!Sleeping-Baby-522x348.jpg

WHAT IS A FLYING SQUIRREL?FS_Woodlands_Blue_Front_large.png

  • They are an extension of the Zippy because they’re the same basic shape, but have option openings/covers for the hands and feet.
  • The convertible hand and foot covers (like a new born onsie’s optional mitten flip overs )are to  to keep your little one extra cozy and warm without the need for socks. Seriously, ADORABLE! BK#2 hated the mitten option on his hands, but it gave me all the feels remembering  the itty bitty baby onsies. I am going to keep trying and maybe he will indulge me and let me cover his hands!
  • It comes in sizes 2T-5T.
  • Fleece or SUPER soft cotton option. We received the cotton material. – I suggest the cotton for spring and the fleece for winter months. (I put a set of PJ’s under the cotton material, because it wasn’t as heavy for winter as I normally would use.)
  • At LEAST a dozen prints for each gender, and many are gender neutral!sleepingbabyburritobuzzzippersleepingbabyburritobuzzzipper2
  • Zipper coverings! The top of the zipper is always enclosed and there is a layer of fabric covering the zipper on the inside to ensure you don’t snag your baby or their clothes.
  • They run big and look at little baggy on your child. That is how they are supposed to be! Don’t worry! You want your baby to be able to move around freely in their bed AND if gives the product more longevity! All parents know that baby gear lasts for no time at all.
  • They wash up wonderfully! They stay super soft and buttery, and the print doesn’t fade one bit!
  • Fairly priced at $36.95 . This might sound a little high for “pj’s”, but for sleepers and sleep sacks its just right and around the same price as SIMILAR products on the market. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE THIS DESIGN AVAILABLE!

Sassy Baby. Grow up Cups and More Favorites.

BurritoBuzzSassyGrowUpCups.jpgIt is no secret that BurritoBuzz moms are always on the lookout for new sippy cups. We generally don’t like them. They are always leaking, or molding, or even better yet breaking. Its so annoying!  I really wish companies made made baby products better, but alas they are made to last for a short time. I have been introduced to my new favorite sippy cups and  I am already throwing out others to replace them with the NEW Sassy Baby Grow Up Cups! Sassy Baby has a whole new line of products and I am excited to share some of my favorites with you!

GROW UP CUPS

The best way to transition to an open cup with no lid is a cup that doesn’t have a spout at all. Sassy has created a cup my little girl calls her “big girl – no lid cup” and gives me the ease of actually having a lid to keep all those messes trapped. BK#2 was so intrigued that he actually started giving up his bottle! YESSSSS!!

About the Grow Up Cups.

  • Revolutionary 360° design – sip 360° around the rim with no spout or straw!
  • Available in 7 oz., 9 oz. and 12 oz. sizes
    • Both the 7 oz. and 12 oz. sizes are available in a single pack
    • 9 oz. cup is available in convenient double packs
  • Easy grip handles (sold with 7 oz. cups) can be removed and used with each cup size! > I wasn’t super impressed with the handles because they didn’t snap in or stay on the cups very well. They are adorable and work great, but made the cup a toy because BK#2 spent his entire time with the handle just playing with it.img_2998
  • BPA Free & Phthalate Compliant
  • Pediatric dentist preferred over spouted cup
  • The lid is easily taken apart into three pieces to make cleaning easy!
  • Lids are interchangeable within cup sizes! I love that you don’t have to even look to see if they match or anything. Snap the membrane on the lid, twist, and off they can go! img_2996
  • Silicon valve automatically seals when your child stops drinking to eliminate messes
  • Slender enough for toddlers to grip with one hand.
  • Grow Up Cups come in MANY different colors and prints, slogan cups, and even a fruit infuser cup with a little carrying handle!
    • The Infuser Cup is a natural way to flavor water. About 1/4 cup of fruit can put placed in the removable fruit infuser.
  • Price – A 9oz or 7oz  2 pack retails for $10.99 (Currently on sale on Amazon for $7.17!)  and one 12oz cup retails for $5.99.

These cups are awesome and super functional! Although they aren’t completely leak proof they definitely are leak resistant! If your child drops them and leaves them laying they might drip a little, or if they shake them up-side-down, yes they will leak, but sitting in their chair drinking at a normal they did not leak on them! The only real time i had an issue with the Grow UP Cups leaking was when BK#2 shook it playing. Really, most “sippy cups” leak when shook.

FIRST SOLIDS FEEDING BOWL WITH SPOONIMG_2965.jpg

  • Ergonomic shaped bowl offers a variety of single-handed grips for the caregiver
  • 2 divided compartments keep foods separate.
  • Snap-on lid for portability. – I wish the lid fit better. I trust it to keep foods cold in the fridge, but I would not put it in the diaper bag for travel out of fear it would pop off.
  • Includes  soft silocon-like Sassy Transitional Feeding Spoon
  • Assorted boy/girl colors
  • Price- $5.99IMG_2972.jpg

I cant express how much I wish I would have had this when BK#1 was an infant! The little spot for the spoon to sit is an amazing way to hold it when you’re feeding a child of any age! When BK#1 was a baby I lost track of how many times she would knock the baby food out of my hand! With this bowl you can hold it more securely. Its seriously the best design for a bowl that I have seen in a LONG TIME!

ON-THE-GO FORK AND SPOON SETIMG_2961.jpg

  • Travel case keeps child-sized utensils clean in diaper bag!
  • Properly sized for little hands. The curved handles make it so easy for little hands to get the food in their mouth without dumping it first. IMG_2973.jpg
  • Assorted blue and pink cases available
  • Price – $4.99 for the set.

My little ones did great with these utensils and the spoon is my favorite specifically, because it is so easy for babies to use on their own. The fork is very rounded and doesn’t stab tougher food that well.

BATHTIME PALS & PULL&GO BOATBurritoBuzzSassyBathToys.jpg

  •  The bathtime pals are a set of 5 squirt and float characters
  • Characters offer a variety of colors and textures
  • Sized for little hands to grasp and squirt
  • Unlike some squirty bath toys theses are almost a soft silicon material!
  • The pull&go boat has a silicon character as well with a plastic and string pull to make the 2 paddles zip through the water.
    • Available in pelican or penguin characters
    • No batteries required
  • Price- Bathtime pals are on sale for $6.54 and the Pull & Go boat is $7.33

My littles LOVE bath toys. When I told them that I had new ones for them they were SO EXCITED! These toys inspires imagination and works with their fine motor development. Win-win in my book!

We are so happy with Sassy Baby and cannot wait to see what else they come out with. Sassy Baby products are a must have for any baby registry!  This company is coming out with new products all the time and they really do have your family in mind when they are creating! Be sure to visit them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Youtube. They will have a new shop open on their website very soon at www.sassybaby.com. Be sure to check it out for some awesome new product. I will be sure to share when it is up!

Essential Oils for Allergies {Lavender, Peppermint & Lemon by Young Living}

younglivingallergiesburritobuzzIf you follow my posts, then you know that I am a pretty crunchy mom. When it comes to my life, and my children’s especially, I try to use the best products available. There are so many chemicals surrounding us on a daily basis, so I try to limit chemicals and artificial ingredients that we put into our bodies specifically.

I found essential oils when BK#1 was little. You can read about Tummy Gize and how I use it here. I also use oils for teething, you can read about that here. Last year, I found a blend that works wonders for our family’s allergies. I have some pretty rough seasonal allergies, my husband has seasonal allergies and some specific allergies, and our littles definitely inherited them unfortunately. Thankfully, right now,  it just seems like the babies have seasonal allergies. Their pediatrician prescribed some over the counter allergy medication. They didn’t really help, so she then prescribed prescription strength medicine. After  some time, I didn’t see much of a change in symptoms even though my one year old was taking medication every single day. I consulted with our pediatrician and we decided to start exploring some natural remedies for their allergies before extensive allergy testing and medications.lrj2b.jpg

I started diffusing a blend of peppermint, lavender, and lemon and saw immediate results. Not only were the results immediate, but they were continuous. They are still working. Any time the kids are having any allergy symptoms, I diffuse the blend and their sniffles subside within minutes. As an adult, I not only notice my runny nose and sniffles disappear, but my sinuses are clear! If you have allergies, you know how amazing this feels.

***Before I go into how it works, I need to preface with the fact that I am not a Young Living rep, nor am I being paid to endorse Young Living***

I have done the research and tested multiple other brands. Young Living is the best quality and works the best. You can find many different brands at many different price points for your budget. But like most things, you get what you pay for. It is just that simple.

HOW TO USE

Apply:

  • Always dilute with a carrier oil (like coconut) for little ones.
  • Apply to base of neck.
  • Apply to bottom of feet and put on socks.
  • I apply Lavender alone on my cheekbones and bridge of my nose for sinus pressure relief.
  • You can also make a roller ball using equal parts of each oil for travel and to have the oil already mixed on hand.

YOUNGLIVINGBURRITOBUZZALLERGYSEASONDIFFUSER.jpgDiffuse:

  •  I diffuse for the kids 95% of the time.
  • I use this diffuser instead of an expensive one from Young Living and it works great and has never broken. (I have a Young Living diffuser that has died)
  • Fill diffuser to fill line with water then add 5 drops Lavender, 4 drops Lemon, and 3 drops Peppermint. I put the diffuser in whatever room we are in and it runs for around 6 hours before I need to refill.
  • Depending on the severity of their symptoms, I diffuse 24/7 or just in the morning when they wake with sniffles.

Ingest:

  • Add 1 drop of each oil to 1 teaspoon of local honey for children. For adults, use 2-3 drops of each oil.
  • It is an oil, so it will be a little rough on the pallet. Just use a chaser like a glass of water.

Peppermint and Children

Always be safe with your oils. Especially with peppermint. Peppermint is one of the most effective essential oils for respiratory infections and congestion, but it can be dangerous for young children. It can slow breathing, so be sure to always use a safe diluted amount. There are many different opinions and ages that are suggested. Some say don’t use under age 3, some say it’s safe as long as it’s diluted. Our pediatrician said that she felt it was safe if heavily diluted or diffused. I don’t apply blends with peppermint to my little ones, but there is plenty of research saying that if applied safely, it is okay to use. I just worry so much as it is, so I completely avoid applying it since diffusing the blend works so perfectly already. Please read more about oil safety here.

Fall is my favorite season, but our bodies don’t like the weather changes as much as I do. I am so glad to have found a natural solution! I hope this blend helps you as much as it helps my family.

Deuter Hiking Pack {Review}

My husband and I did a fair amount of hiking before having our son. Nothing too crazy, but usually just enough terrain to necessitate a hiking pack for taking our toddler out now. At 14 months old now, we hope to really get him out in nature this summer, so we needed a good hiking pack.

We decided to get a Deuter Pack, specifically the Kid Comfort Air. There are only a few brands that have name credibility as far as hiking packs for children go, but Deuter is top of the list and has amazing ratings across the board.

Why did I select this pack? Primarily, comfort for myself and my son. This pack is adjustable in every aspect, offers lumbar support for the adult, mesh lining so both you and your little one stay cool, great padded straps and padded straps and seat for your little one. I particularly loved the chin/head rest for the baby/toddler that’s riding along. The seat offers a five-point harness to keep your little one safe and snug, and is wonderfully adjustable to keep them comfortable.

The pack has some great extras: good storage, offering multiple pockets and storage spaces, loops to hook items on to, a kickstand to assist with setting your child down while in the pack, and my personal favorite, foot straps for your child to rest their feet in (my guy loves to try to stand in the pack, or re-center his gravity by just flexing his legs.)

The side-entry option makes it incredibly simple to get your child into the pack. Within a matter of seconds I had my son in the pack, strapped in, and adjusted properly. He had no interest in getting out of it, and in fact, I cooked dinner one night with him in the pack because he loved it so much.

The pack is recommended for children that can sit up unassisted and hold their head up. The weigh limit should not exceed 45lbs. The pack itself is incredibly light, at only 6lbs. It easily folds up for storage and transport. The two handles make it easy to both carry, and assist with lifting to pull the pack on to your back (though, I’ve found that sitting on a bench or seat makes this infinitely easier to put on when alone.)

The pack is shockingly sturdy. The material is easy to clean, anti-chaf, durable, and comes in good, gender-neutral colors. The frame is also incredibly sturdy.

There are several accessories that can be purchased for this pack, too. A sun shade and weather shade are both options, which we will likely purchase in the future.

Depending on where you’re purchasing, this pack will run you around $240. A fairly standard price for a good pack, and in my opinion worth every penny.

Overall, this pack is five stars in my book. A great, worthwhile purchase that will get us out into nature and hiking comfortably!

Thanks to Deuter for a wonderful product!

Scooties Booties {Product Review}

My son is not quite ten months old yet, and just took his first steps yesterday *tear.* Up until this point, he’s worn shoes infrequently and only as an accessory to his outfit. While he still won’t be walking outside this winter, he needed some shoes to keep his feet warm for these rough Ohio temperatures.

My son is off-the-charts for height (way, way off the charts,) and about 95th percentile for weight. He’s a big guy! He’s wearing 18 month clothing and a shoes size 5-6.

Anyone that has been out shopping for baby shoes knows, they aren’t cheap. A pair of shoes for a baby will run you nearly the cost that you’d pay for your own pair of shoes. On top of that, they are often picked over, or difficult to get on. Lacing a shoe on a baby? Yeah right– not happening in my household.

So I really struggled to find shoes for Lucas. I wanted something cheap, comfortable, and over everything else, warm. I finally found these booties called Scootie Booties on Amazon. Good reviews, around $10, and Velcro. They come in various color combinations for both sexes. I ordered them, and was so thrilled with my purchase when it arrived two days later.

These are fleece on the exterior, and lined cotton inside. They open to have a rather large in-step opening, making it incredibly easy to slide your LO’s foot in. Velcro the tabs together, and you’re set. The elastic band around the ankle makes it easy to wrap this around the child’s ankle, but also keep their foot snug.

My son has worn these both as slippers around the house and outside (again, he’s not walking. These shoes would not work for babies that are walking on the ground, because the bottoms are fleece.) Not once have they fallen off, and they take seconds to put on and take off. They also easily machine wash!

Great little booties, and I plan on ordering more. I highly recommend them to anyone with a little one that needs some pre-walker shoes!

Mama Bear Mode

imageI’ve always been the type-A, extremely organized, prepared for everything type. Not doom-and-gloom by any means but, prepared. We live in a hurricane-prone area (read: batteries, candles and water fill an entire shelf of my linen closet), I’m addicted to extreme couponing and my dad had a gun in my hands shooting pop cans in the backyard by the time I was 7. See? Prepared.

Becoming a mom changes you. There was a time after I got pregnant that I had to stop watching the evening news. I just couldn’t take a new story every night of a home break in with children in the house or a pregnant mom being attacked.

I’m not a pessimist but I am most assuredly, a realist. We need to keep ourselves and our littles safe. Whether you’re a SAHM, single mom, military spouse..it doesn’t matter. There will come a time when you are alone. It could simply be while out running errands for a few hours or for months on end during a deployment. With the holidays rapidly approaching, many of us will be traveling, stopping at sketch rest stops, and leaving our homes unattended.

Whoever you are, whatever life you lead, it is always wise to take steps to protect yourself and the ones you love.

So how do we do that? How do we keep ourselves safe?

1. Protect Your Home

  • Home Security System– Not all of us can afford a hard core cops-show-up-when-the-cat-moves-at-night home security imagesystem. But what I can afford is a quality door and window alarm kit that will send out a piercing alarm if someone tries to open my doors or windows. This one will run you about $20 off of Amazon. It’s simple to install, battery operated, allows you to use a pin code to arm and is LOUD! If you live relatively close to your neighbors, they’re going to hear it and guaranteed it will really freak some thug out if they’re trying to get in.
  • Outdoor Lights– My neighbor told me about these awesome light bulbs for your outdoor lights. imageThey are solar-censored meaning they only come on when it’s dark and turn off when the sum comes up. If you’re traveling, these are perfection. You just screw it in to your fixture and leave the switch turned on, the bulb does the rest. About $7 on Amazon. You can’t beat that.
  • Indoor Lights– It probably wouldn’t be necessary unless you’re traveling but it’s not a bad idea to pick up a few lamp timers. You plug your lamp into the unit and plug the unit into the wall. Set the times you want the light to turn on and off. This way when you’re gone, your house isn’t pitch black at night but a light isn’t being left on 24/7 either. They sell them at any big box store (Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc.).

2. Protect Your Car– I think it’s safe to say that everyone knows the basics: ice scraper, gloves, Fix-a-Flat, extra phone battery. All of these are wise to keep in your car in case of an emergency. Let me tell you about one extra item you may want to look in to called the Road Trip Emergency Auto Tool.image I recently became OBSESSED with a company called Damsels in Defense. I’ll talk about them a little later but they make this great product in one compact unit that is the ultimate car emergency tool. It is a strike-free glass breaker (so you touch it to the glass, press the button, it shatters the window) in case you need to break your window. It has 3 different LED light settings

3. Protect Your Littles– And they are just that, little. The majority of us at BurritoBuzz have babes that are still too small to understand “stranger danger” and all the other things we teach our children to imagekeep them safe. For now, we can set the example of  behaving properly and safely in public for our LOs until they can better understand.

You can also check in with your local sheriff’s department and register your children in the Ident-A-Print program. Every sheriff’s office should have some form of missing child program that will allow you to register personal information your child so that in an emergency, the police can get identifying information out as fast as possible. They can even issue you a handy little card to give to the officers if, God forbid, you are ever in such a situation and can’t possibly think straight enough to tell them your missing child’s height. This will help.

4. Protect Yourself– Now, like I said, my Daddy had a firearm in my hands at a very young age so that I could learn how to safely and effectively handle a weapon. This option is not for everyone. Regardless, you should always have something on your person that can protect or draw attention to you should you be confronted.

Back to that company I’m obsessed with, Damsel’s in Defense. They make incredibly effective, reasonably priced, cute personal protective items for women. I carry their Pouch O’ Pepper Spray, a keychain that snaps shut to keep little fingers out but holds a powerful imagepepper spray with me at all times. I also love their Wristle. It’s a paracord bracelet that can unravel to be used for a number of situations as well as a high pitch whistle. It’s $10 and it’s cute. I swear I don’t work for these people but seriously, every product they sell is legit.

As mothers, we are given the task of protecting the most beautiful gifts on this planet. Unfortunately, it can be a nasty world out there. And that puts us into Mama Bear Mode. Take daily, proactive steps to secure yourself and your family. Make sure this holiday season is only filled with memories of family and love.
