mommy’s BLISS {Review}

mommysbliss-logoWhen you are a new mom, there are a lot of facts and products being shoved in your face. You really don’t even know where to begin, what advice is legit, and what products you actually need v. the products that people just loved but would be useless to you. When my doctor prescribed vitamin D drops and suggested probiotic drops (I was EBF my daughter), I followed her advice. But I quickly learned that there are so many options, not only that, but there are so many opinions on your options.

Who knew life could be so complicated?

Mommy’s BLISS made my life a little easier two years ago when I had a colicy baby and they continue to make awesome products today! Their line takes the guessing out of choices. You don’t have to worry about additives or additional problems on top of the ones you are trying to treat with the medication.

All of mommy’s BLISS products have: no additives, chemicals or parabens, no artificial flavors or colors, no dairy, no gluten, and no soy. They are also 100% vegan and vegetarian.

Mommy’s BLISS actually contacted me and sent me their new products a few weeks ago and I have been waiting to write this post so I could be sure that I used them to their full potential! I have to say, I am very impressed with their new products and so excited to  share some secrets with you!

VITAMIN D ORGANIC DROPS71PQlouMpxL._SX522_.jpg

Let’s start with why breastfed babies need vitamin D drops.

“The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all babies receive routine vitamin D supplementation (400 IU per day) due to decreased sunlight exposure and an increase in rickets-Vitamin D deficiency”

The babies who do need these supplements need them due to a lack of sufficient sunlight, which is the best way to get your vitamin D. For example, with my Ohio babies, it’s far too cold to go outside and play in the sun half of the year, so vitamin D drops are necessary. Also, if you are darker skinned, it takes more sun exposure to absorb vitamin D.

A formula fed baby most likely would not need any vitamin supplements because their formula is fortified with vitamin D. A breastfeeding mom is most likely deficient in vitamin D (unless you take a supplement yourself, you have a pretty good chance of being deficient), so doctors advise you to give your newborn a supplement every day.

Vitamin D helps with healthy growth and bone development. It is not something to take lightly. But neither are all the chemicals and additives that are in some drops. The products are made for newborns. You would think that it would be a requirement to be the best possible product. But it’s not, so parents are left staring at boxes and weighing the risks of the additives and chemicals for their tiny humans.

These vitamin D drops are USDA certified organic and free of any type of chemical or additive! You are giving your child only what they need. Even though I don’t have a newborn, I still give my 2 year old vitamin D drops (under her pediatrician’s guidance). BK#1 is extremely picky, going through the phase that most toddlers go through, and refuses to eat and drink most of the time. I worry about her getting proper nutrients and growing properly. So far so good, but as a parent, you worry. You can’t help it.

My favorite thing about these drops is the amount needed daily. Just one drop. You don’t have to struggle getting a full syringe into your newborn or toddler for that matter. I sneak a drop on the top of her sippy before she takes a drink and voila, no tantrum because I had to hold her down and give her meds. There is no scent or taste either!

Mommy’s Bliss Vitamin D Organic Drops, 0.11 Fluid Ounce

PROBIOTIC DROPS + VITAMIN D & 15 DAY BOOST81+CQR1kx7L._SY679_.jpg

When BK#1 was an infant, this would have been a Godsend! My tiny little angel had colic like nobody’s business. I can’t even begin to explain how tired we were. I suppose I should write about that experience, but colic is not fun for anyone. It leaves you feeling like a zombie with literally zero brain cells because every parental instinct you have to comfort them just doesn’t work. She cried all the time and absolutely nothing we did helped. The evenings were the worst with no break at all. Finally, after trying every possible solution, we tried probiotics and we finally found some relief! She slept. She stopped crying. She was happy.

New parents, talk to your doctor! Save yourself and your baby and try probiotics.

If you want to learn more about how they work, read this amazing article.

“Probiotics are living microorganisms that scientific research has shown to benefit human health. Most commonly these are bacteria, but they may also be yeasts. In some cases they are similar to, or the same as, the microbes already found in a healthy digestive tract. Many probiotics were originally isolated from common fermented foods such as yogurt. Mommy’s Bliss Baby Probiotic Drops contain the live culture Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, the most widely studied probiotic in the world with over 800 scientific publications attesting to the safety and healthfulness of these beneficial bacteria. Like all dietary supplements you should discuss the use of probiotics with your baby’s doctor.” source Mommy’s Bliss Probiotic Drops Plus Vitamin D, 0.34 Fluid Ounce

Mommy’s BLISS created an amazing probiotic and vitamin D blend to help parents skip a step! No need to keep track of two medications. Not only is it two medications in one, but it’s the same price of any other probiotic on the market! You are definitely getting the better deal with mommy’s BLISS.81h9L3vRlIL._SX522_.jpg

If you don’t have a baby that has colic, you still might want to consider probiotic drops if your child gets sick, to help balance their immune and digestive system. The Mommy’s Bliss Probiotic Drops 15 Day Boost, 0.2 Fluid Ouncewas created to help replenish beneficial bacteria and may help with occasional diarrhea. Antibiotic use may cause occasional diarrhea* and digestive upset.*

Parents, it actually works! My littles were passing a tummy bug back and forth and this had them back to their normal selves and solid bowels much faster than anything ever has. It’s definitely something that I will be keeping in my medicine cabinet from now on.

Mommy’s BLISS is a great company! Learn more about them and why I think they are so great on there site here and be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to get awesome tips and parenting advice.

Delta DX Side by Side Stroller {Review}

delta-double-stroller-burritobuzz1

I had been dragging my feet about getting a second double stroller. We have an awesome hand-me-down double jogger that has been well loved, but it’s perfect until it’s not. Almost all double strollers have three things in common:

THEY ARE HUGE, HEAVY AND EXPENSIVE.

Just about every single one on the market. I got to thinking, how long are they really going to tolerate sitting in a stroller? Is it worth spending $300 on the one I really want? In the end my answer was no, it was most definitely not worth it. Even though I didn’t see the value in a super expensive, but more compact double stroller, I also needed something to help me out.

You can’t baby wear all the time. I do a lot, but in some situations it’s just not the easiest. Don’t even get me started on tandem wearing toddlers. Good grief is it a hassle. When we were getting ready to go on vacation, I decided that we had to get something. Long walks, back and forth to the pool, shopping, going in and out of attractions, whatever vacation might bring, I didn’t want to be chasing my toddler and fighting my one year old to stay on my back. I asked some friends what they used and came across this gem of a stroller.

I always thought that umbrella strollers were cheap and not worth my money, but I was incredibly wrong!

Details:

  • Super compact fold for travel and storage. I  can literally shove it under their seats behind my seat, it’s super small!Delta Double Stroller BurritoBuzz3.jpg
  • Two separate canopies
  • Soft and comfortable handles
  • 360 degree shock absorbing, locking front wheels
  • Large 6”front and back wheels
  • Back wheel brakes
  • JPMA certified and exceeds all ASTM and applicable CPSC standards
  • Assembled Dimensions (in inches): 22.8 (width) by 36.8 (height) by 18.5 (depth)
  • Weight: 19.16 lbs
  • Each seat has a 35 lb weight limit
  • Fits through standard 30″ wide doorways
  • Cup holder with 2 attachment points and 2 hanging storage bags
  • Foot push to collapse and one lever to secure close

Pros:Delta Double Stroller BurritoBuzz2 .jpg

  • Assembly was a breeze. All you had to do was pop the wheels on and take some plastic off. It literally took me two minutes.
  • Super easy to move! You can push it with one finger with the kids in it.
  • It fits through doors! I haven’t had a door that I couldn’t get through and because it is so compact, you don’t have to have anyone hold the door open for you to get through.
  • The 35 lb weight limit is great! I know I am going to get a lot of use out of this even though I have large toddlers.
  • It’s a very smooth ride. I can go in and out of stores, through door ways, over hills, up embankments and over gravel, and my kids stay asleep.
  • It’s not heavy! I can carry my one year old on one hip, fold the stroller and get it in the car. Thank you Stroller Gods!
  • Tiny, tiny, tiny. You can fit this stroller into any car and it’s great for travel when you have more than your stroller to put in your trunk. My big jogger literally takes up my entire cargo area.
  • Cup holder fits adult cups!
  • Reflective material. The white stripes are reflective, so if you take evening walks, you don’t have to worry about pushing a black stroller and no one seeing it.
  • It’s inexpensive but high quality. I’ve had this stroller for about a month and have used it almost daily. There is no sign of any wear and tear and nothing feels cheap or like it’s going to break. If I didn’t tell you that it was cheap, you wouldn’t know it!
Delta Children City Street Side by Side Stroller, Black

Delta Double Stroller BurritoBuzz4.jpg
Cons:

  • The canopies are small and don’t really do a whole lot. I didn’t purchase it with a canopy in mind, but after a few times of walking directly into the sun, I wish I would have taken the very small canopy into consideration. I throw an Aden + Anais swaddle` over them and it’s fine, but that’s not always convenient.
  • The wheels are super small, making rough terrain difficult to navigate.
  • The description on their site and on Amazon says that it has a “Large Under-Frame Storage Bag” and it does not. I thought I would be able to slide a diaper bag under the seats or something and that is not the case. There are the two small hanging bags on the back of the seat that work nicely for a few diapers and wipes, but that is about all they can hold.
  • Advertised as a 5 point harness and it’s not.
  • The handles are short (as are most umbrella strollers). I am 5’4″ and I have no problem, but my 5’11” husband wasn’t too happy with them after a  while. 11601-007-delta-city-st-side-by-side-stroller-black-plaid-front-hi-res_1024x1024

Overall, this stroller is amazing! My complaints are small and I do not regret purchasing it at all. A few changes would make it a little better, but for the amazing price, it can’t be beat! If you have a second little one on the way, this is definitely a must have!

Momma’s Little Helper Day Planner {Review}

14248846_1255458487851775_780646304_nAs parents, we know that time management is essential. So essential that we write things down, put alarms on our phones, put sticky notes throughout our homes, we sync our phone’s calendars with your spouse’s and if you’re like me, you also put everything into a physical planner.

Maybe it’s overkill, maybe I am crazy, but this mom-brain that I have going on is no joke. It starts out as pregnancy-brain because your tiny little human is sucking out your brain cells, and then it turns into exhaustion that I am pretty sure is never ending.

I couldn’t have been happier when Momma’s Little Helper contacted us! With the school year starting, I have zero time to forget things and my old planner was just about done.

This day planner is not like any other because it was made specifically with busy moms. From cover to cover, it is detailed and designed to make your life easier!

13227678_1680849522171169_5007254839125998006_o.jpgAbout this awesome day planner:

  • It comes in two styles, flowers and damask.
  • “Academic planner.” There is plenty of room to write down assignments and projects you have to help your kids with, as well as school functions, classmate info and much more.
  • Plenty of space for your agenda & notes
  • Pockets on the inside of front and back covers.
  • Notes pages for each month unlike most planners with just a small column or one page in the back.
  • August 2016 – July of 2017 and their 2017 January to December daily & weekly planners will be available in October 2016.
  • 240 pages gives you plenty of space to write down to-do lists and whatever else you may need.
  • Inspirational quotes and tips on every page.
  • Awesome price! Currently it’s only $12.95.
  • For stay at home moms: my planner stays in my diaper bag or purse almost 100% of the time. I like to physically write things down to help me remember them. I like that there are pages for emergency numbers, household contacts and family medical information. If I leave my kids at the sitter’s or a sitter is at my house, I can simply show them where to find the info without having to worry if they know everything in case of an emergency.
  • It’s small! It is only 8.5″ x 6″, so it fits in most purses and diaper bags. The pockets are the perfect size for receipts, notes, coupons, whatever odds and ends you might not want floating around your bag.
  • Space for to-do lists and other lists right inside the planner
  • For working moms: (Katie here, your resident working mom, busy body) I utilize a planner every single day. Not only would I lose my mind without a physical planner, but I also love to look back at my old planners and be nostalgic (you know, about years when I was busy going to the movies and on dates instead of arranging child care and pediatric appointments). I plan my life months in advance, so it’s ideal to be able to have a paper planner in front of me so that I can quickly flip to a date to see what I already have planned.
img_4294
Nice, long columns for all of the important stuff I need to keep track of!

Likes: the front pocket. The front pocket of my planner usually contains all kinds of chaos that has been paper-clipped in. Now, I have a nice little pocket to hoard all kinds of ridiculous things in. The detailed front pages are fantastic. While I personally will never utilize any of the cooking tip pages (trophy wife of the year, I know) I’m sure plenty of other moms will love these pages. The tips at the top are fabulous. I love random trivia anyway, so I really love seeing it on each page. The layout is great and leaves plenty of space for details, and the quality of the planner is also really good.

Dislikes: I wish this planner had tabs like my current one does. Each month in my current planner has an easy-to-find tab that makes flipping through really easy. While this isn’t a huge downfall, it’s a nice perk and would be great to see in the next edition of this planner. Also, I find that this product could easily be marketed towards dads, too. Stay at home dads, working dads, coaches and dads that just like to use planners would also find it very beneficial. I’d like to see a product geared towards parents putting us all on a level playing field (though, if I saw my husband using a planner I might actually die of shock. He isn’t exactly organized).

img_4291
Old planner on the left (almost outdated) and new planner on the right. Comparable in size and quality!

If you’re looking for a way to organize your day to day activities, Momma’s Little Helper is definitely the way to go. Be sure to check them out on Facebook and Instagram!

Happy planning!

27 Steps to Being an Awesome Stay-at- Home-Mom

howtobeanawesomestayathomemom

  1. Wake up before your kids.
  2. Schedule your meals and cook ahead to save time.
  3. Always plan time for your own physical activity.
  4. Have a set routine.
  5. Be sure to have naptime and meals at the same time every day.
  6. Schedule your cleaning and only tackle one chore a day.
  7. Don’t forget to have play dates.
  8. This list is a bunch of crap… Sorry about the click bait.

If you’re a stay at home parent, you’re laughing hysterically at this list because 99% of the time all of those are virtually impossible.

I am so sick of seeing Mommy Blog posts about “How to be a Stay at Home Mom”

10 Things To Ensure You Are A Great Stay At Home Mom

6 Ways To Be A Productive Stay At Home Mom

How To Afford Being a Stay At Home Mom

Habits of an Effective Stay At Home Mom

It’s all a bunch of malarkey. You want to know why? Because it looks different for every single mom. Heck, sometimes it looks completely different and it’s a stay at home dad.**gasp** I’m guilty though, because yes, I do click on and read almost all of them. Hoping and praying that somehow this little circus that I got myself into can be more manageable. 210037d0f899f9dc49d3d5edf759ee48.jpgHonestly, I wish I had an answer for all of your stay at home mom questions, but I don’t. I have tips and tricks that have worked for me and my family, but I guarantee that they won’t work for everyone.

What will help is some brutal honesty.

You will never sleep. Like ever. It just doesn’t happen. We get the kids to bed, I try to get some chores done, spend time with my husband, get ready for bed and by the time I am in bed it is 11pm. In two or three hours, my 2 year old will be up wandering the halls asking for her soccer ball or something ridiculous. After getting her back to bed, I lay back down and generally get another 2 hours of sleep because one or both of my little ones are up at 5 AM every day. Every single day. Today it was 4:45…2e2b5526ce131e18a20537f492be2c1a

3 or 4 hours of sleep at night on repeat. My husband works nights,  so sleep is just out of the questions for like, ever. Getting up early for “me time” and to get ready for the day is hilarious.

I have some OCD tendencies but I despise housework. It’s not that I don’t do it. My house is almost always spotless. Especially if we are planning on having company over. I do it, but that doesn’t mean I like it. Your chores never go away. It is a constant stream of dishes, laundry, vacuuming, picking up, dusting, washing the floors, cleaning up outside, cleaning up after pets, picking up toys. Your house never gets a break. No one is at work and daycare all day. It is constantly getting filthy. It might not stay that way for long, but you never stop moving. Between chasing kids and picking up toys, you don’t sit down a whole lot. I never understand when people say they love doing dishes or laundry. I never used to hate it, but I do now. It’s a constant chore that never ends. Someone always has something dirty in their room or on them, and there is always a sippy cup or snack cup hidden away that needs washed.87322a94dfae2c55e7abf4b3e472b313

I told my husband the other day that I am an awesome stay at home mom but I suck at being a housewifeThere are many days when I am asked what’s for dinner and the answer is “whatever you can find and you better use paper products.”

It’s hard. Our job is never done.

Your coworkers like to touch you a lot, they are mean sometimes and they don’t do a whole lot of work.  Quietly sitting at the computer typing this post and que the 2 year old that just jumped on my back requesting a “pony ride.”  There is also a 1 year old over in the corner emptying a basket full of freshly folded clothes on top of the very hairy lab.

You’re never alone. There isn’t a lot of explanation for this. It’s simple. You are your children’s everything, so that means they have to be attached to you all day long. Good luck with your coffee break. I just warmed mine up for the 3rd time this morning.6.png

People will ask you if you want help all the time.  Believe it or not, I really can do this. I have two kids and taking them to the store with me is my job. Cleaning my house with kids at home is my job, among many other things.

I will let you spend time with my kids, and sometimes, yes you do need to get out, but I promise you can do chores and things without people helping you all the time. Help is nice. I have been getting better about letting people give me a hand, but just be warned. People have this attitude that because you didn’t wash your hair today that you must need help. It’s annoying and approaching disrespectful. If I was anyone else doing a hard job, would you offer to give me a break because I had a long day? This is a 24/7 job and I am well aware that I signed up for a crazy job.

When are you getting a real job? ……Please ask me that one more time, I dare you. People even say “I just could never stay home and not work, I would have to get a real job and provide for my child.” So when you are at your “real job”, do you hire a real person to watch your kids or a fake one? People are ignorant, say it to your face and want an actual answer, like what they said wasn’t the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard. I am warning you now, if you haven’t heard it already, you will.14088651_1756641454589235_5618134841622901219_n.jpg

Being a homebody isn’t a bad thing. I love being at home. Ever heard of yoga pants and leggings?  An endless supply of coffee and baby breath? Keep it coming. I literally have to pump myself up to go out with friends. Don’t get me wrong, I love my friends. I love spending time with other adults. I know it is important. I just like my kids, my coffee, my Netflix and my blog more than dinner and drinks.

“Affording” to be a stay at home mom isn’t easy. Affording is in quotes because I am still trying to figure that out. I am not a couponer. I shop sales and I shop at Aldi. We don’t do a lot of extra stuff, we are a middle class suburban family and I am happy that way. We don’t always get all the new shiny things we want, and there are times that I look back at a month when we had extra expenses and wonder how we did it. But you make it. I promise that there is always a way that things work out. All we knew was that we could pay all of our bills and a little more on one income, that we wanted the kids to have me 24/7, until they were at least in school and that we were going to make it work.83ec59e162040d21c114725fb105aa92

You will never regret the decision to stay home and it is so much fun! I have always wanted to be a stay at home mom. Luckily, my dream came true. Such a simple dream. There is never a bad day when I say “if I could just clock out and go to work.” You will never regret getting extra time with your kids. Getting to see every single milestone unfold before your eyes. Teaching them everything and watching them learn from you. It really is a gift. Don’t take it lightly and don’t brag to your working mom friends about it either.

Not everyone can do it. Being a stay at home mom is not for everyone and there is nothing wrong with that. Working parents are beyond awesome! I have a friend who is an amazing mother but would lose her mind if she was surrounded by her kids all day. Not everyone can do it and that’s completely normal. If you are a working parent, don’t feel bad about working. You spend time and teach your children in your own way, and provide them with awesome caregivers.

Time is fleeting and whatever time we get with our tiny humans is a blessing.

Now that this written  maybe I wrote it for myself, to make me feel better. I don’t know. I just hope that someone can relate and has days where they feel like this is the craziest job on the planet, too. ❤

Moldy Munchkin & I Are Breaking Up

012096-miracle-sippy-cup-360-pink-lc3_1.jpgIt really is no secret that the Burrito Buzz moms have a love-hate relationship with sippy cups. We try and tell you about the ones we love and the ones that we hate. Sippy cups are part of life with kids. There’s no way to get around it. Either it’s an awesome cup or it leaks and makes you want to smash it into a million little pieces.

A certain company has yet to leave our “hate it” list. Not only do we hate it, this mama bear is pretty furious. I have yet to try a Munchkin sippy cup that didn’t eventually stain a carpet, dump all over my kid or be impossible to clean thoroughly. We have told you guys about it here and here. I knew it was too good when the so called “Miracle Cup” rarely leaked and my toddlers liked it!

THE MOLDY LIDBurritoBuzzMolyCup

I received the 360 Miracle Cup as a “gift” when two of my sound machines both stopped working and it took over a month to get them replaced. I was thankful that even after a pretty rough customer service experience, they were trying to make up for it.

It is a simple cup with only three pieces that you can take apart. There is one piece that you can not take off though. The little rubber ring that gives it a tight seal is not something you can remove. Munchkin-Miracle-360-Degree-10-Oz-Sippy-Cup-Colors-May-Vary-0-6

Well, this evening I was drying it off and noticed little gray spots. The ring is clear and tightly secured to the cup. I never thought to take it off because you can’t. I ran my nail under it try and a little pile of black junk came out. Gross! I literally had to take a steak knife, pry it away and then use another knife to flip it off. The pictures speak for themselves. It is absolutely disgusting and I really hope my child does not get sick from this.BurritoBuzzmoldycupThis is the same lid as above, just the opposite side.

Before Munchkin can give their spiel about how you are supposed to properly clean the cup, like I have seen on other complaints, I will tell you that it is always cleaned promptly and properly. This cup gets rinsed, taken apart and washed after every single use. It doesn’t sit around the house all day, nor does it sit in the sink for days on end. Not only is it washed, but it is also put in the top rack of my dishwasher to get sanitized. Or so I thought…

Parents, please be sure to toss these cups so your littles don’t get sick from them!

Be sure to share with your friends so they can check their cups to!

Weleda Skin Care For Moms & Babies {GIVEAWAY!}

We all want the best for our little ones. Many children have sensitive skin and/or allergies. The worst thing about it is, as a parent, it is so hard to figure out what causes your child’s sensitive skin. My little girl has always had sensitive skin. She breaks out all the time and most of the time, we have no idea what caused it. I am really hoping that she grows out of it, but in the meantime, I seek out organic and extremely gentle products for my babies.

The Weleda Baby Calendula line is absolutely fantastic for allergy prone skin.

First of all, calendula is a flower that is used in multiple ways for health and wellness, but it is mainly used for skin care and as an anti-inflammatory. It is a great moisturizer, helps reduce pain and  helps soothe irritated skin. Weleda’s flowers are organically grown in their own gardens in Germany. Weleda has an extensive line of creams, oils, and soaps for all your baby care needs.

ALL OF THEIR PRODUCTS ARE:

  • Certified natural and dermatologist tested safe for babies.
  • Free of parabens and other chemical preservatives, synthetic fragrance and petroleum ingredients.
  • Not tested on animals
  • Free of GMOs

Diaper Rash Cream

This cream is one of the best I have used in a long time! BK#2 has horrible diaper rash on a regular basis. Any time he cuts a tooth or a dirty diaper doesn’t get changed immediately, he breaks out in a rash and even gets blisters. It’s absolutely heart breaking and I wish I could just let him stay in the nude all the time to help prevent it. This cream got rid of a bumpy and horrifying red rash in one diaper change.

Cloth diaper friendly cream! 8813.jpg

It’s thick, but creamy and easily wipes from your finger without leaving a horrible smell.

Key ingredients include: calendula flower extract, sweet almond oil, clary sage oil, beeswax and 12% zinc oxide.

A 2.8oz tube is priced at $14. I found this to be the only downside because it is pretty expensive for such a small tube. Right now it is pretty well discounted on amazon at $8.45, so I will probably be placing an order here soon.
Weleda Calendula Baby Diaper Rash Cream 2.8-Ounce

Body Cream

9652This is a pretty typical cream. I felt it was more of a lotion than a cream. It is pretty thin and absorbs fairly quickly. As all of the calendula products do, this smells amazing! It’s the perfect amount moisture to keep your little one’s skin nourished daily, but is rich enough that it soothes dry and irritated skin. I have really sensitive, dry, and eczema prone skin, so I was slathering it on and I really like it!

This body cream doubles as a diaper cream as a preventative barrier when your baby doesn’t have a rash.

Key ingredients: calendula, sesame oil, lanolin and almond oil.

A 2.5oz bottle is $12.50 but it’s on sale right now on Amazon! Weleda Baby Calendula Baby Cream 2.5 oz

Face Cream

9661.jpgThe face cream was just a little thicker than the body cream and it smelled exactly the same. My littles don’t really get dry skin on their face, but they had awful baby acne and flakey faces as infants so I am sure this would have a God send when they were tiny. There aren’t many lotions specifically for a baby’s face.

Infants get the most random rashes on their faces and most of the time the doctors can’t or won’t do anything because they are so little. A baby face cream gives you the ability to soothe your baby without having to resort to any type of prescriptions.

Key ingredients: sweet almond oil, calendula, lanolin, and beeswax

IIt’s a little more pricey, but again, it’s cheaper on Amazon at $8.16! Seeing a pattern yet? BurritoBuzz moms love Amazon! Weleda Baby Calendula Face Cream, 1.7-Ounce

Shampoo and Body Wash

I really liked this wash. It wasn’t heavily scented, didn’t bubble up too much and get in their eyes, and it cleaned up any sticky mess my babies were covered in at the end of the day. The wash also has just enough moisture in it to not need a conditioner for babies that have a lot of hair. It left my babies with silky soft curly locks!

It’s tear free and naturally fragranced with essential oils, so there is no worry about the suds getting in tiny and delicate little eyes.

Ingredients: calendula, coco-glucoside, disodium cocoyl glutamate,

I will most definitely be purchasing this again because it worked really well and it is priced right at $13 for 6.8oz. Weleda Calendula Baby Shampoo and Body Wash, 6.8-Ounce

Baby Oil

I know not everyone uses baby oil on their babies and kids, but I love it. I have super dry easily-irritated skin, so I try to keep up with theirs as much as I can. Baby oil gives them just a little bit more than a lotion would to lock in all the moisture. I generally only put it on them after a bath and before bed. That way it has all night to soak in. This has such a mild scent and I didn’t feel like I was overwhelming them with scent like some that I have used. It absorbs extremely fast and doesn’t leave a residue if you get it on clothes. The only down side is the hole in the spout is pretty large. I have had much more than I wanted come out multiple times!

Key Ingredients: calendula, chamomile and sesame oil

Priced at $17.50 for 6.85 oz but I feel like this will probably last me a very long time. Well worth the price! Weleda Calendula Baby Oil, 6.8 Ounce

Stretch Mark Massage Oilweleda_stretch_mark_massage_oil.jpg

My littles left me looking like a tiger. Not just on my belly but everywhere! I am talking my stomach, thighs, calves and chest. I blew up like a balloon. I always try any stretch mark oil that I can get my hands on!

This oil was great. It wasn’t sticky or thick and didn’t leave much of a residue.

I didn’t have much of a result with the oil, but man it was nice. I did notice that my stretch marks were slightly lighter and not as rough around the edges. So that’s a big plus! I’m sure with more time it will do more!

A 3.4 oz bottle is $25.50 but on Amazon, it’s only $15! Weleda: Pregnancy Body Oil for Stretch Marks, 3.4 oz

8 Annoying Toys for Babies & Toddlers

When you become a parent, you also become an expert on all things that are annoying. It just comes with the territory. I think toy companies create the most annoying toys for babies and toddlers to drive their parents insane. Literally. Whether or not you buy these annoying toys, or if you try to keep them out of your house, they’ll still likely end up in you child’s toy box thanks to birthdays, holidays or from grandparents who love to spoil their grandchildren. As a mom to an almost four year old and four month old, I’m remembering all of the annoying baby toys my oldest used to have (and thought I got rid of forever) because they’ve once again popped up in our toy boxes. Here is a list of the most annoying toys (baby and toddler) according to me:

  1. Brilliant Basics Corn Popper by Fisher-Price – you all know why this is at the top ofpTRU1-2789443enh-z6 the list. It is possibly the most annoying toy ever created (thanks Fisher-Price!) Baby just pushes it and pop, pop, pop, pop, pop goes the balls. It. Never. Ends. If someone gifts your child this toy, they secretly despise you.
  2. See n’ Say by Fisher-Price – it seems like Fisher-Price makes several toys that torment parents. This toy is decades old, I remember annoying my mom with it as a child. Point the arrow at an animal and pull the lever down to hear what animal is is and what is says. You’ll hear “the cow goes moooooooooooooo” over and over and over.
  3. Any kind of musical instrument – this is self explanatory. I love music and my husband is a musician but we cannot stand hearing the our toddler’s toy instruments. Her keyboard, maracas, tambourine, drums and recorder (oh, the recorder is a nightmare) are often hidden because they’re just too much for us to hear all at once when our daughter is playing in her “band”.
  4. pTRU1-6647019dtGo Baby Go!™ 1-2-3 Crawl-Along Snail by Fisher-Price – another Fisher-Price toy, this snail would always start singing and lighting up when just sitting in the toy box with no one near it because there are no buttons to push to make it turn on. Simply touching it turns it on. Its songs and sound effects are highly annoying and my crazy kids absolutely love it.
  5. Playskool Poppin’ Park Elefun Busy Ball Popper by Playskool – the fan noise this
thing projects is really annoying in and of itself but then it spits balls all over the place. My precious toddler loves throwing them at at me. They’re good for target practice I guess.
  6. Doc McStuffins Musical Light-Up Microphone – my husband brought this home for our daughter about a month ago and I thank my lucky stars everyday that he did (I’m being totally sarcastic). This thing never freaking stops and it’s so loud that it wakes my sleeping baby during nap time when my oldest plays with it. It’s now hiding on the top shelf of her closet and won’t be found for some time.
  7. My Pal Scout & Violet by Leapfrog – at  first I loved this dog when my oldest got it as my-pal-scout-violet_19156_2-1a gift a few years. I liked that it could be programmed with your child’s name so it could talk to them. But the buttons get jammed and the songs get stuck on one word or sound and it just repeats. The only way to stop it just turning it off or taking out the batteries. So annoying.
  8. Shake & Sounds Learning Pup by VTech – the only thing I can’t stand about this puppy is the constant barking. It’s cute and my daughter loves to play with it (she even named it Pumpkin Bubble Gum) but it barks. All. The. Time.

This is by no means a complete list, because according to my husband,
any toy that lights up and makes noise is annoying. This is just a small list of the most annoying toys (in my opinion) that we own or have owned. My husband and I often talk about taking the kids’ noisiestbusiness-software toys outside and going Office Space on their annoying asses.

If you have an annoying or noisy toy that you’d add to my list, let me know in the comments or tell us in the comments on this post on Facebook or Instagram! I know I am missing a lot and I’m curious which toys to stay away from!

Seventh Generation Coconut Care Diaper Cream {Review}

I have always used coconut oil when my babies have gotten a diaper rash. I don’t always start with it, but if I can’t kick a rash with other creams, then I always slather it on before calling the doctor. Both my littles have always had really sensitive skin and they get a rash anytime they have a dirty diaper for any length of time. BK#2 is much worse than BK#1 ever was. The poor guy always seems to have some sort of rash starting or going. I will have it cleared up for a day or so and he will start teething, or take an extra long nap and it’s back full force! Coconut oil just about always clears it up in a day or two, it is that awesome. The only negative about it is it’s an oil. You have change diapers more often because it soaks into the side of the diaper and causes leaks.

WHY I USE COCONUT OIL FOR DIAPER RASHES:

  • It has natural antimicrobial, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties to help the healing and prevention of a rash.
  • It also contains lauric acids and caprylic acids that are natural yeast fighting agents.

So it basically gets rid of any type of rash your child (or even yourself) has!

Seventh Generation just came out with a diaper cream with coconut oil in it! When I saw it at Target, I was so excited! I have never found anything made for little bums with coconut oil in it. I have just been working around the diaper leaks because it is what works best for my little ones!

Other awesome ingredients: Sunflower seed oil, zinc oxide, palm oil, and rosemary extract. Seventh Generation special formulated it to protect sensitive skin with a non toxic formula that is pediatrician tested!untitled.png

  • GLUTEN FREE
  • NO MINERAL OIL
  • NO PETROLATUM
  • NO PARABENS AND DYES
  • NO FORMALDEHYDE

It is a thick cream that you have to spread around pretty well but when it warms up to your fingers, it spreads easily. There’s absolutely no scent either! So even though you have to spread it on, you won’t be smelling it all day!

The price point is pretty average at $9.99 for a 4 oz tube. The only downfall I have for this product is that you can only find it at Target. Now, I don’t have a problem with that because I have a target problem like most 20-something moms, but I know Target isn’t located everywhere! But it is available on their website. Seventh Generation also released a Coconut Care moisture lotion (7.6oz for $8.99) and a Coconut Care foaming shampoo and wash (9oz for 9.99), both available online as well as in store!

Cute packaging, awesome ingredients, superb quality and most importantly, it’s effective!

Noodle & Boo Skin Care {Review}

If you haven’t noticed (or are a first time reader, in that case – hello!), BurritoBuzz loves finding and sharing new skin care products for baby. I look for products that are hypoallergenic for baby’s delicate skin and with no harmful chemicals. I recently found a fantastic, luxurious skin care line for babies and for mamas that I have to share! Noodle & Boo sent me several samples to try with my four month old and I am in love with every single one of them!

NandBlogo_2

Noodle & Boo is a skin care line designed developed specifically for ultra-sensitive skin. The founder Christine Burger worked with holistic and natural healthcare providers to create products that nourish, protect and replenish delicate and sensitive skin. The ingredients used in Noodle & Boo products are certified organic and derived from natural resources. I love that the products are made in the USA and are manufactured in a pharmaceutical-like environment so the quality is superb. Noodle & Boo also has a complete line just for those with super sensitive skin and eczema.

You can rest easy knowing the products are free from a slew of harmful ingredients:

  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Sulfates
  • PPG’
  • Dyes
  • GMO’s
  • Triclosan
  • Formaldehyde Donors
  • Bisphenol A (BPA)
  • Essential Oilsgift_newborn_deluxe_detail

The first thing I noticed (and loved) was the smell of the products. It’s the epitome of what a baby smells like. They somehow bottled the smell of a newborn and it is fantastic. I received four amazing samples, Noodle & Boo Newborn 2-in-1 Hair & Bodywash (8oz for $14), Super Soft Lotion (8oz for $14), Ultimate Ointment (2.5oz for $15) and Baby Balm (4.5oz for $16). I love all of the products I got to try. The hair and body wash gets my little babe clean, even in all of her rolls (and there are a lot!) and keeps her smelling great. The lotion keeps her skin hydrated, soft and smooth all day. She’s had a few dry patches on her elbows, I’m really hoping it’s not eczema (it’s not bad, so I don’t know if it is or not) and I applied the Baby Balm which provides long-lasting moisture and comforts irritated skin. I love that it’s super thick and after using for a few days, the dry patches have subsided for the most part! The Ultimate Ointment is perfect for diaper rashes, dry skin or eczema as gift_big_sister_brother_detailwell. It creates a moisture repellant to promote natural healing of rashes. I use it for the rash on my little one’s neck. Her rolls are trapping moisture and the Ohio heat has caused a heat rash. The ointment has helped tremendously.

I love Noodle & Boo products and I would love to try more, especially products for mama! The only issue, is the price. This is a luxury brand (so many celebrities swear by Noodle & Boo, check out their testimonials and who loves Noodle & Boo here!) so the cost is a little high but totally doable if you want high quality products. Be sure to check out Noodle & Boo’s website here. They seriously have so many awesome products to offer for both baby and mom!super_soft_lotion_detail

MAM Pacifiers & Pacifier Wipes {Review}

I received the MAM pacifiers and pacifier wipes several weeks ago and so far so good! Two more great products from MAM! 61Zmb1yo73L._SY679_

Both of my kids have been “binky babies,” so I was kind of anxious to see if my nearly one year old (at the time) would take to a new brand of pacifier. Since birth, we have pretty much stuck to using the AVENT Freeflow Pacifier. I also used them for my daughter when she was younger. I never really shopped around or tried different ones, but these pacifiers seemed to work with my kids, so I stuck with them.

The MAM pacifiers I received are very similar. My son honestly didn’t miss a beat when I swapped his usual soother for the new ones – that’s a huge plus! Now, I do know that some kids are more particular about certain products, so I think it’s important to note that my kids really haven’t been picky when it comes to pacifiers, teethers, bottles, etc. The specific MAM pacifier I reviewed is the Glow in the Dark Night Orthodontic Pacifier 6+ months.

Here are some of its key features:

1. It glows in the dark – This is great! I thought this feature wouldn’t be that big of a deal to me, and41WSjIl2Q6L then I saw how well it glowed in the crib in the dark room at night. I was immediately sold. It was so much easier to find! And I didn’t wake my little one in the process! The only part that glows in the dark is the portion directly opposite the nipple, not the entire shield.

2. Silicone nipple – The pacifier my little guy was used to was also silicone. I’m sure this made the transition easier for him. The silicone is said to feel “familiar, like mom,” so I thought this was important for my breastfed babies.

332aef0d-2b9a-4d61-b07d-a520ab74b815.JPG._CB322275667__SL300__3. Symmetrical nipple is also “anti-slip”. I like that there isn’t a right or wrong side with these pacifiers. It just makes it more convenient and easier for babies to put their binkies in their mouth independently. It is also better for their incoming teeth. I honestly didn’t notice any differences with the “anti-slip.” You might notice this more with younger babies.

4. They’re BPA Free!

 5. There are small openings on the curved pacifier shield. This is important to me because the holes allow air to circulate and my little guy’s skin to breathe better. I don’t have to worry about him getting rashy or his skin breaking down and he is comfortable with the curved shape!
815DYDWkZ+L._SY679_

6. MAM offers two sizes, 0-6 month and the 6+ month size pacifier to accommodate growing babies and their development.

7. $5.99 for a 2-pack on Amazon – you can’t beat the price! These pacifiers last and are of good quality. Perfect registry item or shower gift. Buy yours here: MAM Glow in the Dark Night Orthodontic Pacifier

To go along with my new pacifiers, I also reviewed MAM’s Pacifier Wipes. These were not a product that I was super accustomed to using. I’m a Mom who finds a bathroom and rinses off her baby supplies or applies the 5-second rule when things get dropped. I will admit, these were nice to have in a bind or on-the–go and their small size (each wipe is 4”x6”) made them even more convenient. I still would not consider them a “must- have.”  40 wipes come in the package and they are advertised as not containing any harsh chemicals and also as being non-toxic. They contain no alcohol, dyes, or parabens. To me, those are important things, especially when I’m wiping off items my kids are going to put61e41kfDQ3L._SX522_ right back in their mouths. I wasn’t crazy about the scent. It wasn’t overpowering, it was just unpleasant to me. You could use these to clean any baby item – teethers, toys, pacifiers, etc. You can purchase MAM Pacifier wipes on Amazon for $3.99 here: MAM Pacifier Wipes

Overall, I would give both products great ratings. My son adapted to the pacifier right away, which I think speaks volumes. Even though I wouldn’t use the wipes on a daily basis, they are smart and convenient to use, especially in a pinch.

Be sure to take a minute to visit MAM’s website to check out more of their innovative, and award-winning products for every stage of baby that they have been developing for the last 40 years!

You can also follow them on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook!

A new way to grocery shop: Walmart Grocery Pickup

Wal-Mart-Grocery-Pickup-Parking-sign

Grocery shopping is the errand that all parents dread (I do at least). It never seems to go smoothly, there are always crying children (sometimes mine), and it’s just overall stressful. It’s like there are set scenarios that always play out: the toddler falls asleep one red light from the store parking lot, a diaper explodes in aisle 9, or there is a choir performance from the older kids full of repetition of “I’m bored”, “can I get this?”, “can I go to the toy section?” or “are we almost done?” It can never be a simple, quick trip to the grocery store. Until now.

I saw a posting about Walmart and their new online grocery pickup on Facebook and had no feelings toward it either way. I didn’t see myself grocery shopping online and then have someone else load my groceries into my car for me. I don’t even let the baggers at Publix or the Commissary take my bags to my car, so why would I let someone else do my grocery shopping, bag all of my stuff and bring it out and load them in my car? It seemed like the lazy easy way out. But then it clicked. It’s not lazy, it’s convenient. I work 40 hours a week, get off at 5:30pm and have a 40 minute drive home every single day during the week. If I stop to grab groceries on my way home, I typically don’t get home until almost 7:45 – 8:00pm on a good day.

They don’t offer online pick up at the store in my town yet, but they do in the town where I work and where my mother-in-law lives. We just so happened to be heading to her house on a Sunday and I happened to need groceries, so why not give it a try?

Let me start by saving you $10 off your first order. Use promo code RCMUR0YA (that’s a zero not an “o”) at checkout on your purchase of $50 or more and you will automatically save $10! 1

It was a rather simple process. I went to Walmart Grocery online, put in my zip code, signed into my walmart.com account and viola! It allowed me to choose my store, secure a time slot to pick up and then add items to my cart. You can search through the “store” by department,

2 or search for the items you know you need by name. I quickly added items to my cart (it shows the total in the corner and there is a $30 minimum) and when you’re ready to check out, you simply put in a credit or debit card number, check out and then you receive a detailed list of your order and pick-up instructions via email.

The instructions were quite simple. In short, “Go to the grocery pickup location. We will call you 15 minutes prior. Call us back 10 minutes prior to your arrival and again when you get here.” It even showed me a cute little map of the store and where the parking locations were in the parking lot which were marked as well.15469435 It was that simple.

So I called 10 minutes before and again when I got there. Not even 5 minutes later, two sweet young ladies brought me my groceries and I never even had to get my kids out of the vehicle. I received a “Welcome” bag containing some grocery and health care full size samples such as After-Sun Aloe wipes, Sea Salt Covered Raisins, Cucumber Ranch and some other goodies. They loaded the items into my car, I signed the delivery receipt and I was quickly on my way. I hesitantly added produce and eggs to my list and surprisingly had no issues. They showed me my eggs before placing them in my car and my bananas were handled with care and not bruised.

I did figure out that if the store is out of stock with the item you want, they will offer you a substitution at no extra cost, if available. I wanted a 1lb bag of Gala Apples, but since they were out of stock, they gave me a 3lb bag of Gala Apples for no additional cost. Also, if they don’t have the item or a substitution, they immediately issue you a refund for that item.

Overall, if I had to give a star rating, it would be a 5 out of 5. Quick, easy, convenient and so worth it. I would definitely recommend it to busy moms if it’s available at your local Walmart!

Covered Goods {Review}

I am not the mom who can nurse without covering myself somehow. More power to you if you can, mama! I just can’t. I found myself not wanting to nurse in public very often, just because I was worried about modesty. Now, some will argue that you are feeding your baby, so do what you have to do. Don’t think I didn’t feed my little one. I always fed them, just not always comfortably. I felt like my back was showing, my stomach hanging out or even a nip slip. A nursing cover is essential for me. Coverd Goods Multi.jpg

I found Covered Goods a while back and I am so happy they wanted to work with BurritoBuzz. This nursing cover is so much more than just a nursing cover!

Not only does it give you full front and back coverage, it also functions as a car seat cover, scarf and shopping cart cover!

As a nursing cover, it has a flexible neck that can be worn down under one arm and it also makes it easy to look at your baby. There is no worry that your baby will kick or pull your cover off. It is extremely light weight, my little one didn’t care that he was covered. promo_image_4.jpg

Unlike other covers for your car seat and shopping cart, it’s not bulky! It’s made of thin stretchy cotton material that you can wear as a scarf until you need or it fits inside any diaper bag or purse.

There are no straps, snap, or velcro. It takes seconds to put on and take off of anything. It even worked on the double seater carts at Aldi!IMG_20160716_101927052.jpg

I played with it as a car seat cover on many infant carriers and I didn’t find one that it didn’t cover. I wish I had one when my littles were newborns! It is so much nicer than using a blanket or those “car seat covers” that tend to get caught on stuff and just annoyed menavyfloralcarseat.

At $34.99, it is a little higher than most “nursing covers” but again, it’s not just a nursing cover! It comes in multiple prints, so there are many styles to choose from or you can get a several! (I probably will because they are so cute!) With this product having multiple functions, you are saving a lot of money!

It’s definitely 5 stars and an absolute must have for any baby registry!

Aden + Anais Bath Products {Review}

I was so excited to learn that BurritoBuzz would be working with Aden + Anais, a company I have been a customer of since I became pregnant with my first child nearly 4 years ago. Back then, I knew A + A for their super soft muslin swaddle blankets. I loved them, my kids loved the81psQHPiQyL._SX522_m and they have held up all this time. I could not wait to try their other products.

Casey, a fellow BurritoBuzz mom, and I chose to try items from their baby skincare line. The Hair + Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Ultra-Gentle Lotion were items we sampled. I also received a set of washcloths and a toddler bath towel. So far, all of the products are fabulous. My kids have been happy with them, my husband has used them and loves them, and I know I will for sure continue to use them.

Here’s the rundown:

The Hair + Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Ultra-Gentle Lotion were all developed by leading New York dermatologist Ellen Gendler, MD and are naturally derived. Each one is tear-free and lightly scented, which I found to be completely accurate. I really loved the light, clean fresh scent of each product and the scent lasts. Baby’s hair smells so good for 41x4X2FrLYLhours after bathtime. These products are free of phthalates, parabens, BPA, gluten and soy. Buy the lotion and body wash together on Amazon here.

Hair + Body Wash – First of all, any bath soap that comes with the pump is already an A+ in my book. It is so easy having that pump when you’re bathing two toddlers rather than having to pick up and pour soap into your washcloth. Aden + Anais put their soap and lotion both bottled with the pump. I’ll be honest, my husband usually bathes our kids, so I had him try out the Hair + Body Wash immediately. We have been trying out other soaps ever since our baby shower supply ran out. We haven’t really found any that we absolutely love, but A + A comes close! My husband said the soap “made a good lather.” It is moisturizing and gentle on my little ones’ skin which is necessary. We do use conditioner on my daughter’s hair quite often, so I can’t honestly say if this shampoo on its own would be moisturizing enough for h71Ad9wUyIdL._SY679_er. I may have to buy the conditioner as well! On Amazon, you can find Hair + Body Wash in a 12 oz bottle for under $15.95.

Bubble Bath – My kids both love bubbles of any kind. Honestly, who doesn’t love a good bubble bath every once in awhile? Very simply pour 1 to 3 capfuls of the Bubble Bath directly under running water. Bath time was fresh and clean with the added bubble and my little ones loved it. It was also moisturizing to their skin. You can buy it here: Aden + Anais Bubble Bath.

Ultra-Gentle Lotion – I’m not embarrassed to say I used the lotion on myself. Don’t judge! Since I’ve gotten some sun lately, my skin has been dry so I thought that’d be a true test of this lotion. I knew I already loved the scent, so why not? It worked like a charm! I loved that it wasn’t greasy like many lotions I’ve used. The scent is refreshing but not overpowering. I will continue to use it daily, especially in the winter months and on my babies. Amazon has Ultra-Gentle Lotion for less than 20 dollars also or you can get it bundled with the Hair + Body Wash.

Toddler Bath Towel – This is the A + A product I was most excited to try. I don’t know about you, but infant/baby towels infuriate me. Most are so small and thin, barely dry my child and leave them shivering. This towel is legit. It’s nearly the size of an adult towel (50” x 30”) and super soft. The towel is made of pre-washed cotton and muslin, making it plush and soft. It washed up well for me and it81VdceQVBjL._SX522_‘s the perfect size for both my 3 year old and 1 year old. It keeps them dry, warm and is gentle to their skin. I don’t have to worry about it being too small like most hooded towels, but it’s not too bulky either. The Toddler Towel can be found on Amazon for $29.95.

Classic Washcloth – I also received a set of three 100% cotton muslin washcloths. The washcloths are pre-washed just like other products by Aden + Anais, so they get softer wash after wash. They washed up with ease and seem to be durable (I have only washed them twice). They even have a convenient loop, so the washcloth can be hung to dry between each use. I will say, the washcloths are quite large for babies/toddlers (12” x 12”), so they take some getting used to but you can’t beat that soft muslin fabric across their delicate skin. The set of three is available on Amazon for $20.00. You can find it by going here: Classic Washcloth.

Although the price point for these Aden + Anais products may seem high, I promise you, the quality is there. The washcloths and towels come in the most adorable prints (I received Fluro BIMG_6948lue), and some of the prints are perfect for gender neutral gifts. I know I
will be on the lookout for sales and clearance so I can continue to buy these products and others from A + A.

Aden + Anais definitely receives a 5 out of 5 stars from my family and I for the bath products and towels. After sampling, I had to get on Aden + Anais’ site and check out the rest of their bath time and skin care line. You can check it out right here!

A big Thank You to Aden + Anais for the opportunity to review their products! Be sure to follow A + A on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook!

I Swore I’d Never Do That

I’m sure you’ve said it before children and I know you’ve heard it many, many times from people without children or those expecting their first baby.

“I’ll never let my child do that.”

“I’ll never give my baby/child that.”

“I’ll never do that with my baby/child.”

The “nevers” are endless before you have kids. It’s entirely way too easy to judge someone and to say you’d never do something with your child or let your child have or do something. I’ve done it and I can guarantee every parent-to-be has, too. But once baby is here and baby gets older, your whole perspective changes. Those “nevers” turn into “okay, just this once” then they turn into “sure, whatever it takes to shut you up”. Here is a list that I swore I would never let my kids do or have but instead are now regular occurrences in our house.

  1. Co-sleeping. I said I would never ever co-sleep with my children. My motto used to be “my baby sleeps in her crib and only in her crib”. With my oldest, she only ever slept in her crib. Baby number two changed everything. She started sleeping in our bed around 2-3 weeks old, when we learned she slept much better with me. My husband Baby in Bed with Mom and Dadhas been sleeping on the couch for the past 3 months but as long as we’re all able to sleep, we’re totally fine with her in our bed with me. **The AAP does not recommend co-sleeping with baby. Visit the American Academy of Pediatrics website for the recommended sleeping guidelines to prevent the risk of SIDS.
  1. Formula. Nothing is wrong with formula, as both of my girls have strictly been formula fed. However, when I was pregnant, I was hell bent on breastfeeding my first. It would have saved us a ton of money which was another reason I was determined to breastfeed. Fast forward to my emergency c-section and pneumonia after my surgery, I didn’t care how baby was fed as long as she was fed. I tried for the first day but it was just too hard for me so we immediately went with formula. My now almost four year old is a 40 pound, perfectly healthy little monster. With my second, I tried breastfeeding for two days but ultimately switched to formula as it was extremely painful. Kudos to all of those who kick ass at breastfeeding!
  1. Pacifiers. I never wanted my babies to use pacifiers. I hated (still do) seeing older kids using them when they clearly didn’t need them anymore. I’m okay with infants having pacifiers to help sooth them, but I didn’t want to go through the weaning once they were older. So with my first, I chose not to use a pacifier. However, the nurses in the nursery at the hospital gave her one (eye roll) but she gave it up on her own at 3 months old. With my second I gave her a pacifier right away, as I learned with my first that it is a little silicone savior. She’s not crazy hooked on it, but it has saved several meltdowns at naptime and bedtime and I am totally okay with her having one.
  1. iPad/TV. We’ve all heard it, TV rots your brain. So when I was pregnant, I was adamant about not letting my kids watch too much TV, let alone have a tablet or iPad. Fast forward a few years and my oldest can work the iPad better than me. She can navigate through Netflix and Hulu to find her shows so fast, it’s kind of crazy. I swore my kids wouldn’t fill their time just watching TV but when you have a wild toddler to occupy and you’re tired from said toddler being up half the night, yomcdonalds4u cave. You give her the iPad to hopefully get a few more minutes of sleep. It’s happened more times than I like to admit but hey, TV has helped keep this mama sane.
  1. Junk food. Another thing I swore I’d never let my kids have is junk food. McDonald’s, pop, stuff that’s plain bad for you. “I will never let my child have McDonald’s!” is something I know I’ve said quite a few times. And now, my oldest gets a Happy Meal once or twice a month. When we’re out running around at dinner or lunch time or she’s been an especially good girl, she gets one as a reward. The same with pop. We let her have a little bit of Sprite (and only Sprite – no dark pop) for special occasions, like at the movies or sometimes with dinner at a restaurant. It’s not the end of the world but I remember judging other parents for it and I’m sorry for that.
  1. Calling my oldest Sissy. One thing that always irked me (for no real reason) was when older sisters were called “Sissy” by her parents. I would always say to myself that I’d never call my oldest Sissy when she became an older sister. Welp, that’s exactly what I call her when talking to her baby sister. I actually have a million cutesy, probably annoying to them (or they will be annoying in the future), nicknames for each of my girls which I never thought I’d do.
  1. Spanking. This is a huge one. I never thought I’d be the one to spank my child. Growing up, my brother and I were never spanked by our parents. My dad always yelled, which can still make me cry at 28 years old. Our three year old ispinocchionose2 a wild one and sometimes nothing else but a little spanking on her behind works. I don’t do it to hurt her, I do not do it hard enough to leave a mark or when I’m angry. It’s more of a swat to get her attention.
  1. Become a liar. Since becoming a mom, I’ve also became a pretty good liar. I never thought I’d lie to my own children, but it is so necessary to be a liar. Just little, harmless lies like when the ice cream man’s music is playing, it means he’s out of ice cream or their teeth will fall out if they don’t brush them (my personal favorite).

If you’re an expecting parent, you’ve said you won’t do at least one of these things. At the time, it’s nice to think you won’t. But trust me, you will break and you will cave and you will end up doing things you never dreamed you’d do just to make life easier. And an easy life is a good life.

{Jellycat} My Favorite Baby Shower Gift

IMG_20160706_172338636_HDR

I adore all things baby. I mean, who doesn’t? Baby clothes and toys are just adorable 100% of the time. When we had a shower for BK#1, we received our first Jellycat and I fell in love! Above is our little Jellycat collection.

Woodland Fox      Woodland Owl    Bashful Hippo    Bashful Monkey

These are my favorite stuffed animals and the cutest ones I have ever come across. They are a cross between a beanie baby and a super plush stuffed animal. The hands and feet generally have the beanies and the rest is an amazingly plush body. I love that they are all an A-line design. Meaning that the neck is generally smaller than the rest of the body, making it really easy for a younger child to hold. They are the perfect size for a little one to carry around.

  • They are all suitable from birth!
  • Made of polyester, filled plastic pellets and all have plastic eyes
  • Spot clean only
  • They’re available in multiple sizes and styles. All of ours are 12 inches. Jelly-Cats.jpg

Besides being very lovable, Jellycat made them even better and matched them up with their own board books! Each character has its own book. They are all little sensory baby books, but BK#1 is two now and still asks me to read them on a daily basis!

IMG_20160706_172430242.jpg
The toes are little pieces of velcro

I also have never had a stuffed animal that has held up this well! Technically, you aren’t supposed to wash them but we all know sometimes you have no other option. The monkey in the picture has been washed more times than I can count and it still looks and feels like its new! I honestly should buy a second monkey to have a backup because I don’t even want to think about what would happen if BK#1 didn’t have it to sleep with.

The price is based on the style and size but they are generally around $15-$25. The books are usually $12.50 but sometimes you can find a sale on Amazon or at your local boutique!

Visit Jellycat.com to see all of the styles and products that they carry.

If you have a baby sprinkle or shower coming up and can’t decide what to buy, a Jellycat stuffed animal and book set would be the perfect gift!

Gun Safety In The Home

GunSafetyInTheHomeSelf-defense is a very big part of my family’s life. My husband is in law enforcement and keeping our family safe is extremely important to us.rules-of-gun-safety.png

There is a lot of debate about gun control right now, but I am not going to get into that here. Owning a gun is your right and your choice. If your family makes that choice, it needs to be an safe and educated choice! BurritoBuzz is not taking a stance on your gun rights. This is merely an informational article.

I am personally not an expert. These safety tips are just from my family’s safety practices, years of education and experiences.

Twelve steps to safely have a gun in your home.

  1. Always use a safe. Your safe should be specifically made for guns and it should only hold guns, you should have a completely different safe for personal belongings. Even if the kids know there are guns in the home, they shouldn’t know where the safe is or have any type of access to it even if they are within age of teaching gun safety. There should always be parental supervision even when teaching.0075107712309_500X500.jpg
Gunvault GV1000S Mini Vault Standard Gun Safe This is a simple hand gun safe that we have. I really like it for two reasons. One, you can bolt it anywhere you want to conceal it and two, you don’t have to fumble around for keys. (There is a key provided, but not necessary to open)
  2. Learn how to properly handle a firearm. Whether you take a CCW class or a small class at your local range, you need to learn about your personal gun to ensure proper safety and use make sure you are knowledgeable in your specific firearm.
  3. Practice. You have a gun for emergencies. It is not going to do you any good if you don’t know how to handle it properly. I’m not saying you have to go to the range every weekend, but you should go at least once or twice so you feel comfortable having it in your home and now how to properly handle it.
  4. Ease of access. The gun needs to be secured in a hidden safe but somewhere where you can get to it easily.feature_ORS.png
  5. Teach everyone in your home about firearm safety. Read up on Project child safe and get here their free firearm safety kit!
  6. Always unload and clean your gun after every use. Any firearm should also be cleaned on a regular basis even, when not in use, to keep it clean from dust and to prevent any rust.Cleaning-pistol.jpg
  7. All guns should be treated as if they were loaded. When not actually in use, remember to point it in a safe direction and be sure it is unloaded.
  8. Keep your finger off the trigger.
  9. Always keep your safety in place.
  10. Your children and “Gun play”.  It is a very real activity. Even if you don’t have any play guns in your own home, be sure to teach your children the difference between toy guns and real guns, because they may encounter “gun play” when you’re not around.nerf-revolver.jpg
  11. Talk to your children at a young age about gun safety. Teach them to do the following if they see a gun: “Stop. Don’t Touch. Find an adult to tell.” My husband carries a gun on him at times and my two year old knows not to touch it when it’s attached to daddy (or ever for that matter). Even if you aren’t going to have your gun around your children, please teach them those three steps. It is a simple lesson and it may save a life.If you see a gun. burritobuzz .png
  12. Check state and local laws for storage, transport, and securing requirements. Here is a great overview.

As parents, we are always worrying about our children. We are always worrying if we are doing the right or wrong thing for them. No matter how you do it, I can assure you that if you are taking steps to protect them, you are doing the right thing no matter how you choose to do protect them. If you choose to have a gun in your home, please do it safely! Guns are not toys or collectables. I will be sure to post more about gun safety at the end of this post. The more you educate yourself about this topic, the safer you and your family will be!

Bebámour BéBéar Baby Carrier {Review}

c85bd75d9e681ad9ed201695c958b0b2Wearing my little ones makes my life so much easier! With a two year old and almost one year old, it seems like someone always wants held. Thankfully, I found the babywearing world when BK#1 was only a few months old. I’ve used so many different types of carriers since she  was born (soft structured carriers like this one and the Tula/Lille, stretchy wraps, woven wraps, etc.) When the BurritoBuzz moms were approached about Bebamour, I was very interested in trying a product that I had honestly never heard of.

This carrier is very different than any carrier I have tried. It took quite a bit of practice to feel comfortable carrying my child.

71Ce4T9mcYL._SX522_The Bebámour Bébéar Carrier is a 3-in-1 functional baby carrier: infant carry, “single hip seat” and baby carrier combined the with hip seat. new-bebamour-comfort-baby-wrap-carrier-cotton-baby-carrier-with-hood-green-3a34b7ab12d093149f1cefee483c664b

The weight limit is 43 pounds.

The waist band measures as small as 25 inches or as large as 46 inches.

Mesh linings that can be zipped up or stay closed.

It includes the sleeping hood, 2 baby bibs, neck support and zippered Pocket

PROS:

It’s a bright fun color! I love when my carriers have personality, especially when I feel like I wear them more than clothes.61QruMVaKxL._SL256_.jpg

Pocket placement is great. I have been saying for a while that I need a carrier with a side waistband pocket. With most SSCs you can’t reach your pocket if your baby is on your back. This waistband pocket isn’t that big, but great for keys, ID and/or debit card.

Shoulder straps are very soft.

The chest clip straps moved easily. I like to move my chest strap, depending on what carry I have my child in, so being able to move my chest strap easily is essential.

The zip up front panel with mesh lining makes it really nice for hot weather.

CONS: new-bebamour-new-style-designer-sling-and-baby-sling-carrier-2-in-1-dark-blue-8f0b471d32bc3ec4378d0c920f796118

The waist belt is extremely odd.  There is a large hard styrofoam insert inside the belt which is the seat for your child. I haven’t quite figured out why, but you can completely detach the carrier from the waist band so that your child can just sit on the seat.  This is in no way realistic or safe in my opinion. Supposedly, it’s meant to comfortably carry your child’s weight but it was not comfortable and the belt sags when the child is sitting on it.

Securing the waistband is time consuming and I didn’t feel like it was safe either. It velcros on and has a larger snap, but that larger snap does not have safety elastic around it in case it would come undone, a feature most carriers have now.

If you chose to wear the carrier without the waistband, the carrier is no longer ergonomic and your child’s legs are no longer in an “M” position. 61mowdWzAIL._SY679_.jpg

If you wear your baby in the optional front carry, your child’s legs are also no longer in an ergonomic position.

Read more why the “M” position is essential to baby wearing here !

maxresdefault.jpgYou must strap your baby to the carrier and then place the carrier to your body. You can’t put the carrier on and then put baby in. Eventually, I got to a point where I could snap my baby in quick enough, but I have quite a bit of experience in wearing my babies. For someone new to wearing their child, this carrier would most likely discourage them because it is so difficult. In my opinion babywearing should be simple, quick and easy!

Be sure to have a helper to put this carrier on your back. There was no safe and easy way to do it because the large seat got in the way and I couldn’t reach the straps.

They don’t have a US website that I could find and there aren’t many resources to help with this carrier.

The Amazon listing says that there are videos on YouTube. Yes there are, but they are all in Chinese. I watched every single video related to this carrier and was able to get the gist of it, but it was not because I understood what they were saying. Along those same lines, the instruction manual that came with the carrier wasn’t even partially in English. If something is sold on an American site (Amazon) the resources should be accessible in English. [I have the English translation at the bottom of this post.]

Using a carrier incorrectly is extremely dangerous to the baby wearer and the baby. The company did email us an English translation, however it should be policy to be printed in multiple languages.

sidepicBurritoBuzz.pngI did not find the carrier to be very comfortable. The weight of the baby is not distributed evenly which resulted in aching shoulders, hips and back. I can wear my children for hours and often at the same time, but I couldn’t wear this carrier for more than 15 minutes with my 26 pound son. The shoulder straps dug in and were especially uncomfortable. Also, you can’t easily bend over, because the hard seat is in your way, rubbing against the front of your hips.

The listing says that it comes with baby bibs for the straps, but it did not. I am not sure if there is a way to order them separately, but they looked nicer than ones that I have had to purchase separately for my other carriers.

All in all, this carrier is a nice idea but poor execution. There is a lot of work to be done to make it a safe and practical carrier for all parents. I hope to see improvements in the future!

Babymoov Lovenest {Review}

Before bringing home baby from the hospital, you’re told that putting baby to sleep on their back is the safest sleeping position. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends back sleeping for babies newborn to twelve months old. But spending mostBabymoov_logo1 of their time lying on their backs, it can cause a flat head, also known as Plagiocephaly or flat head syndrome. The weight of baby’s head almost always lays in the same position, awake or asleep, which causes the flat head. If baby’s head is found to be too flat, his or her pediatrician may recommend a helmet to round out baby’s head. I’ve had several friends whose children have needed a helmet and they’ve worked wonderfully! But what can you do to prevent the flat head before the need of a helmet?

With over 20 years, Babymoov a comprehensive range called COSY: unique concepts for comfortable sleep and launched the Lovenest, a heart-shaped headrest that prevents flat head syndrome! Created and patented by Pediatrician Dr. Manuel Maidenberg, the Lovenest is the original ergonomic headrest. It’s tilt and special shape guarantee even distribution of pressure across the baby’s skull, thereby preventing the risk of a flat head. Made from bre8914_2athable cotton spandex, the Lovenest is comfortable and adapts to all rockers, bouncers and swing. It can be used from birth, as baby’s head is supported so that its weight is spread out evenly, preventing it from being flattened.

I have been using the Lovenest ever since Babymoov sent their product for me to review about 3 weeks ago and I’m really happy with it. My little one doesn’t mind it one bit, it’s really soft. I do not put it in her crib while asleep, per guidelines set by the American Academy of Pediatrics, as nothing is to be in the crib to prevent the risk of SIDS. When she’s awake playing on the floor under her activity mat or in her mamaRoo, I use the Lovenest to prevent her head from getting flat.

I give this product a 4 out of 5 stars, only because it can’t be used in the crib or bassinet and that is where baby is lying on his or her back the most. But it does work and I think using it outside of the crib when baby is lying down will certainly prevent a flat head which is what parents want in the end. If you or your pediatrician notice baby’s head i8706263294568ms getting a little flat, perhaps give the Lovenest a try to round it back out before it possibly gets worse and a helmet is needed. It’s also available in 3 beautiful colors: red, ivory and taupe and also comes with a lifetime warranty

Goddess Garden Sunscreen {Review}

Approximately 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20. source

Melanoma, the most deadly type of skin cancer, will account for about 76,380 cases of skin cancer in 2016. source

Melanoma causes most skin cancer deaths, accounting for more than 10,000 of the more than 13,650 skin cancer deaths each year. source

The vast majority of melanomas are caused by the sun. In fact, one UK study found that about 86 percent of melanomas can be attributed to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. source

Increasing intermittent sun exposure in childhood and during one’s lifetime is associated with an increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and melanoma. source

In 2010, new research found that daily sunscreen use cut the incidence of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, in half. source

Cancer is a ridiculously scary disease. I don’t have to tell you that.  Do you really know how scary it is? My main question is this: are you doing enough to prevent it? I know I have said it and I hear it all the time, “well, everything causes cancer.” It may feel like that is true, but not everything causes cancer. There are a lot of things we can do to prevent skin cancer in particular. As parents, we should be hyper-vigilant about sunscreen!

I try my hardest to give my children the best they can possibly have. It might put a little dent in our budget, but we do a lot of organic foods and products. Not only organic, but I spend a lot of time trying to find chemical free products. I wish I could say that all of my purchases are all natural, organic, chemical free, grass fed, chopped down by Uncle Bob, but lets face it, to be that crunchy, you have to have moneyA lot of money! We just don’t have that kind of money and neither does 90% of America.

Recently, I have realized how much junk is in most sunscreens. Tons of chemicals, perfumes, and additives that are just not necessary. Our skin is our biggest organ and we should be trying to protect it as best as we can, the same way we try to protect our heart by not eating too much greasy food, our lungs by not smoking, our liver by watching our alcohol intake, etc. Shouldn’t we be watching what our skin takes in?

I don’t know all of the research that is behind the latest “all sunscreen is bad for you, unless it’s such and such brand” fad. I don’t think it’s a fad that chemicals are bad for you, but I have had an extremely hard time finding cause and effect research. What does this chemical do?  What are the long term effects? We just know that the more natural you can get, the better, right? I’m not saying you’re a bad parent for not using the high end mineral sunscreens. I’m just stating a fact that less chemicals are better! Let’s face it, my kids love Goldfish crackers! I probably shouldn’t have introduced them, but hey, they are quick and yummy. I can barely say half of the ingredients. By no means are they organic and all natural!

Cancer runs in our family and like it or not, sunscreen is a pretty big part of my family’s life. We can all agree that sunscreen is important no matter what brand you buy.

In my search of all natural sunscreens, I found Goddess Garden and they graciously let me try their product.

Goddess Garden sunscreens are all:

  • Easy to apply, non-whitening and all-natural.
  • Zinc and titanium are used as active ingredients. I am trying to avoid Oxybenzone, Octinoxate and  Retinyl Palmitate, as they seem to be the most common chemical ingredient. You can read more here.
  • All have Aloe as the first inactive ingredient.
  • This is a certified organic product
  • Strong water resistance rated to 40 minutes.
  • Non-Nano, Reef Safe, Non-GMO, Biodegradable, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Alcohol Free, Paraben and Phthalate Free, and Free from Gluten Ingredients.

Goddess Garden Baby SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen, Lotion, 3.4-Ounce

Their baby sunscreen is a little more whitening on the skin than the others, but it blends in quickly.

I know most people don’t like the whitening that a sunscreen lotion gives, but my children and I have very fair skin, so I like to be able to see the lotion!

It has no perfumes and practically no scent. The bottle says “may stain some fabrics,” but I used it for a week and nothing has been stained.

The only active ingredient is Zinc Oxide 19.0%

71fajTWEkZL._SY679_

Goddess Garden Kids SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen, Lotion, 6-Ounce

Unlike the baby lotion, there is a second active ingredient for the kid’s lotion, Titanium Dioxide. Zinc Oxide 6.0% & Titanium Dioxide 6.4%

The kid’s lotion is definitely not as whitening as the baby lotion.

No scent.

Although it blended in better, it stays wet a little longer. It didn’t seem to run or get in BK#1’s eyes though, which is a plus. Other than the feel, it isn’t a problem.

sunscreen-trio.png
Goddess Garden Kids SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen, Lotion, 6-Ounce

Looking into the specifics of this lotion confused me. Their “every day” lotion has the exact same ingredients as the kids lotion, but is priced higher.

IMG_20160616_203058726

Goddess Garden Facial SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen, Lotion, 3.4-Ounce

Their facial lotion has the same active ingredients as their baby lotion. The facial lotion is not whitening like the baby lotion, it is sheer like the kid’s lotion.” The facial formula uses a polished form of zinc that rubs on more sheer, and it also has some added ingredients like immortelle essential oil that are great for reducing the appearance of wrinkles.”

Price point is about the same as the baby lotion. Again, just preference, but I wouldn’t buy two bottles if I wanted to get a baby lotion and a facial lotion.

All of the lotions held up great, neither of my babies got a sunburn while using it! I definitely have a new favorite on my list of sunscreens.

My only complaint is the price. In general, all organic products are priced significantly higher than non-organic. Doing some math, I found that Goddess Garden only charges on average $3 more. It’s not great, but it really isn’t bad at all! In my opinion, it’s a good price for a higher end product.

Have a safe and happy Summer!

Cake Maternity Nursing Bra {Review}

Maternity and nursing apparel can be fun and exciting to shop for, but I have always found it inevitably frustrating. Nothing I found ever fit the way I really wanted it to or it wasn’t as comfortable as it should have been. I started transitioning into nursing bras about halfway through my pregnancies for a few reasons. My milk came in super early, so I needed something that would clean up easily and with that, I grew very quickly. My bras now needed to be a little more comfortable.

After two babies I have found that nursing bras either are functional or they are cute, never both. I was always frustrated that I could never find a bra that was supportive enough for my surprise DD’s and not frumpy. Anything that was lacy and pretty ended up being too thin and not giving enough support, or had super stiff underwire making it extremely uncomfortable. Some companies have cute “demi” styles which I quickly found out that a leaking nip creeping out the top of your bra is not fun! The comfortable ones are basically rectangle cotton sports bras. But you can’t classify them as sports bras because they are not supportive at all. I found myself buying every nursing bra I saw, in hopes it would be a new favorite.

I have a ridiculously large stash of horrible bras. It’s sad, really.

Cake Maternity and I started working together about a month ago. I was honored when they wanted to collaborate to get some breastfeeding education out there, and even more excited when they wanted me to try out their nursing bra. But I have to admit, I didn’t have high hopes.  The bras looked awesome, they have done a lot of research and cater to women so well, but I had been stuck with my comfy-frumpy bra for so long that I didn’t think I would find something.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

You know the phrase “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”?  Well you can if you are wearing “Cake”!  Happy boobs are making me corny.

I tried the Cake Lingerie Plunge Maternity Nursing Fig Mousse Non-wire Padded Bra,Slate,36D UK/36D US  IMG_20160612_081107.jpg and Cake Lingerie Maternity Nursing Croissant Smoothing Seamfree Flexi-wire Bra,Nude,36F UK/36G US k2-_3a563fc3-a693-445a-ae5c-1b126adc4156.v1

Pros:

So comfortable while also attractive. Even though they are simple bras, I didn’t feel like I was wearing a nursing bra. My husband even said “If I didn’t see the snaps you would never know if was a nursing bra!”

It’s supportive. You will notice that in the picture of the first bra (wire free), the bottom band is wide to support you, and even though the neckline plunges, the cup still gives you adequate coverage. The is no worry of a nip slip or a nursing pad slipping out because the cups are too small.

Full Coverage. I cannot stand a bra that gives me side boob. I just want them both in there snug, and nothing trying to come out the sides. Cake’s bras have a full coverage cup without looking like you are wearing your grandma’s bra. These are the first bras that I have worn that I am comfortable ALL DAY LONG. At bedtime, I’m not rushing to rip it off because I have a permanent indent.

They’re so soft. Both bras’s fabric are extremely soft and did not rub at all. cake-smoothing-seamfree-flexi-wire-nursring-bra-dark-croissant3

13453441_1177002645697360_423632523_o.jpgThe snaps are large and there is a double inside connection instead of just one strap. Believe me, this is worth noting. At 3 am it is extremely frustrating to turn on a light just so you can get your bra situated. I can get baby latched, fed, burped, and back in his bassinet in the pitch black, but I can’t even tell you how many times I have tip -toed to the bathroom to get my bra straps situated. Some bras have one continuous strap that you just unclasp the cup from, but inside it is a triangle shape making it impossible for them to tangle.

There are more adjustments than most bras. Standard hooks are usually 3 or 4 rows, but these have 6! This makes it well worth your money, as it can grow with you.

Flex underwire. Unlike other underwire bras, there was absolutely zero poking or rubbing.

In the underwire bra, the straps had little ridges. The straps helped keep the height adjustment from sliding down the silky strap.

Cons: Not all of the bras have the same design straps. I wish the ridges were on all of them. It would definitely help with comfort.IMG_20160612_080548081

They aren’t machine washable. You have to wash by hand and line dry.  This was a major disappointment. I am a busy mom, and I don’t have time to hand wash my bras. If you have ever had a leak in the middle of the night, you will understand. I do not want to be scrubbing milky bras. Most machines have a delicate setting, and a higher end bra should be durable enough to go through a cold delicate cycle. That brings me to my next point.

It is a little pricey. They all tend to be priced in the $50 range. But you get what you pay for. I really wish I would have found Cake Maternity 2 years ago! I would have much rather purchased a couple higher end nursing bras that actually worked than 20 different bras from maternity stores that didn’t work nearly as well.

Cake only makes maternity so it’s their specialty. The quality is amazing and it really goes above and beyond my Victoria’s Secret bras. I wish they had a sister company for non- maternity undergarments. This isn’t really a downside to the bras, just something I found while learning about the company.

Cake Maternity is a brand I will be definitely recommend to my pregnant and nursing friends and I will be gifting to close friends and family. They have a huge line of clothes and underwear for pregnancy and postpartum. Check out their entire line out here.

Cake also has a lot of helpful education on their website. I found this graphic extremely helpful! bras-for-stages-infographic

Have fun shopping mamas!

Husband & Wife Tells All: Dollar Shave Club

I am sure you have seen the commercials and ads on Facebook. $1 a month for razors! I am frugal most of the time, and when my husband told me we could save $30 a month (we were spending on razor blades for him), I was all for it! We started a subscription, and then I realized I could cut out buying my ridiculously priced razor blades, too! My husband and I had an interesting experience with the product, and we want to make sure our readers know what they could possibly be getting into.

box-bottom-82144d4.png

Introducing my lovely husband. Drumroll Please.

Hello!

Dollar Shave Club offers three different blade subscriptions, and then subsequently 3 different bundles with creams and lotions you can choose from also.Screenshot (80).png

I chose “The Executive” option. I always used the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Men’s Razor Blade Refills 4 Count before and it had 4 blades, so I figured would have be better than what I was using, and it was still cheaper!

Where I work, I have to be clean shaven so I go through a lot of razors shaving dailyThe price was fantastic compared to the razors I was using, and I didn’t have to worry about running out since they came right to my door. It was a no brainer.

The first month you get a sample of their creams, your handle, and a little welcome packet. Every month following they send your 4 blades, and a “Bathroom Minutes”.photo 1

The packaging is definitely geared towards men, and always has little funny comments printed on packaging.

For the first few months I loved it! Amanda saw how well they worked and stole herself a few, so we started a double subscription.

After a few months I started breaking out REALLY BAD! My mild adult acne flared up so bad, and rash-like bumps anywhere that I shaved. I was sure to change my blade once a week, and was even changing more often. After about a month of trying to figure out what the cause was, I did a little research. I talked to friends who used DSC, and found that they had experienced the same rashes and ultimately stopped their subscription.

I went back to my Gillete and within in days I had clear skin again.

Great concept, and maybe better if you don’t have to shave daily, but the razors didn’t work for me. 3 out of 5 stars. A razor has to be able to used daily without causing issues!

~ Husband

Okay it’s Amanda again.

I was having zero issues when he was breaking out, and I have very sensitive skin. I can’t even use shaving cream/gel or I break out in hives. Allergic to all the things, I tell ya.

And then it happened. I broke out in hives. I thought someone gave me razor burn and then chicken pox at the same time. Burning, itchy bumps! WHAT? I normally wouldn’t take a picture of my legs,  and then share it with you all, but I knew I would want to tell you about it. So this is what I looked like after shaving. 13405369_1175779645819660_1750498258_o.jpg

13410821_1175779709152987_157522090_o.jpg

This lasted for hours. I had to use some of my prescription skin cream to get it to calm down, and I chalked it up to old razor blade/or razor burn. Two days later I shaved my legs and the exact same thing happened.

We didn’t share blades obviously (gross), we just popped our own blade on, and switched the handle  back and forth. We didn’t need two handles. Its not like we shared a blade and then shared whatever rash he had! The only thing that I can think caused the rash on both of us, is maybe the company changed something about the blades or the little strip on the blade.

I am really disappointed because I wasn’t having to buy my $22 Gillette Venus Embrace Refill Cartridges – 6 ct , and for 2 months, they worked great!

If you don’t have sensitive skin, or you really don’t have to shave that often it might be better for you! They really are great quality razor blades, and the subscription is great. There are no hidden fees, and delivery is always very prompt. This company is gaining a lot of attention, and becoming really popular. I just hope they find out what is causing the random rashes on their customers, because it wasn’t just my husband and I.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars if you want to know how I rank it. The name is Dollar Shave Club. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot, but I was really confused when all of a sudden the blades were causing issues. Hopefully changes can be made.

Gummee Glove {Product Review}

IMG_20160525_075310190I don’t know about you but when my babies are teething, they chew on EVERYTHING! When they are young, teething is especially frustrating because they can’t hold anything in their mouths yet. I have spent countless hours holding a frozen washcloth or teether because both my babies started teething very young!

Teething became concerning for me when my little ones chewed on their hands or their clothes. I would use pacifier clips and attach them to their shirt hoping it would be a solution. It never really worked as well as I wished it did.

We have found the perfect solution for you parents!IMG_20160525_075316110
Gummee Glove Wearable Multi Sensory Baby Teether Toy, with Detachable Food Grade Silicone Teething Ring for Easy Cleaning and Refrigeration

It is a little blue mitt that slips onto your baby’s hand, and secures with a Velcro strap. it has textured teether tags on each side, a crinkle patch in the center and a detachable teething ring. The Gummee Glove also comes with a laundry pouch so you can just toss it in the wash.

Pros:

  •  100% cotton mittFood grade silicone teethers
  • BPA & Phthalate Free
  • It works perfectly for babies who don’t have the ability to grasp and hang on to a toy without dropping it.
  • The Inside measures 7 cm from wrist to fingertip & 7 cm at its widest point. It is quite a bit bigger than other teething mitts that I have tried.
  • Super engaging! The crinkle pad excites baby before they even have it on their hand.
  • The teething ring is detachable, so you can attach a pacifier or another favorite teether if you want.IMG_20160525_075332617

  • The Velcro on the wrist strap isn’t the typical pokey type. Its barely bumpy, and there is no worry of your baby scratching themselves.IMG_20160525_075422891.jpg

Amazon currently has it $5 off its usual price of $25!

Cons:

  • It’s a little on the bulky side. The fabric that it is made out of is pretty thick. This prevents your baby from chewing on their hand, but I found that babies didn’t seem to like the weight on their hand for very long.
  • After washing the lining seemed to loose it’s integrity. It was still in the same shape but just a little loose. Not a big issue, but for future upgrades it would definitely be something I would like to see improve.

Overall the Gummee Glove is a great product, and definitely gives mommy and daddy a little bit of quiet during those exhausting teething months! The Gummee company is a small family owned company and I am excited to see what else they do!

Update : Vita-Lize Fenugreek {Review}

I have to admit, I was scared to death to try this product. It was sitting on my shelf just
staring at me for quite a while.

8190E4rPb3L._SX522_I was so thankful that the company wanted me to try their product, but when I started researching fenugreek, I got spooked. I heard that it could make you gain weight, cause clogged ducts and over supply. I never had a problem with supply, but I loved knowing that there was a product to help if need be. Well, with BK#2 my chest was exploding from day one. I’m talking pumping 12 to 20 ounces every 3 hours and two times as much if I went longer. I don’t even want to know how much he was actually eating! (Usually, babies eat more than you can pump.) So the thought of increasing my supply was simply frightening.

Then there is that little disclaimer you can read about from other brands… “Some weight gain is normal”…What??? I am still trying to loose weight from BK#1 and you want me to take a pill that might make me gain weight?! Nope! It was a psychological thing and thankfully I got past it!

When BK#2 finally slowed down with his nursing schedule (I nursed on demand), I found that my supply dropped drastically! I’m pretty sure my body was really confused when he stared eating actual food. Before, I used to be able to pump when I got up in the morning to have a stash and I went from producing 15 oz every morning to 4 ounces. Only 4 ounces!  This happened for almost a week. I was frantic to be honest.

I got over my worry of weight gain (because I never really saw anything scientific stating this was a side affect, just moms and reviews of other brands) and popped those amazing pills for a day.

THESE PILLS ARE AWESOME!

The NEXT MORNING I was back to my usual 15 ounces. Not even 24 hours and I had amazing results already.20140412_164531.jpg

If you’ve never heard of fenugreek, you’re probably clueless. Fenugreek is an all-natural herb. If you do a little Googling, you will find that there are many healthy side affects to fenugreek, it’s not just for increasing breast milk. It has been known to help with digestion, prostate (for men), it can increase libido and many more benefits. It is just most commonly known for helping increase breast milk supply.

“Fenugreek seeds contain hormone precursors that increase milk supply. Scientists do not know for sure how this happens. Some believe it is possible because breasts are modified sweat glands, and fenugreek stimulates sweat production. It has been found that fenugreek can increase a nursing mother’s milk supply within 24 to 72 hours after first taking the herb. Once an adequate level of milk production is reached, most women can discontinue the fenugreek and maintain the milk supply with adequate breast stimulation”

Pros: Vitalize makes a very inexpensive fix to a very stressful problem. For $17.95, you get 120 pills. The bottle will last you at least a month, maybe two.

FENUGREEK Vita-lize: #1 Best GMO-FREE Fenugreek – 120 Vegetarian Capsules – 610mg Of Seed Powder Extract Supplement

You only have to take it until your supply regulates. My supply didn’t diminish after I stopped taking the pills! I really appreciated this aspect, because I already take many medications daily.

ALL NATURAL and GMO FREEbreastfeeding7.png

Vegetarian capsules.

Curbs your appetite.  No joke, I found myself feeling fuller and not having cravings that come with the nursing hormones!

If you don’t like taking pills, then you can just pop open the capsule and mix it into a smoothie.

Made in the USA

Cons: It is a large pill. So if you are one who taking hates pills,  I recommend just popping it in a smoothie or a spoon of peanut butter.

I did experience a little bit of a “maple” after-taste, but if I took it with juice I didn’t notice it as much.

Vita-Lize introduced me to an all-natural product and I am so thankful they did! Keep up with them on Instagram. They have new products planned for the future! You can follow them here, @vita_lize. I am pretty sure I am going to be adding Vita-Lize to gifts for baby showers!

As always… fed is best and no shaming breastfeeding mamas!

Shea Moisture Baby Nighttime Soothing Products {Review}

I am always trying to find the latest and greatest baby products for my babies, and to share with our amazing readers. One of the moms here at BurritoBuzz opened my eyes to all of the junk in your typical Johnson & Johnson baby wash and I can’t go back. Since then, I have been using organic, natural and chemical free products on my babies! If you want to learn a little about the chemicals found in Johnson & Johnson’s baby products, you can read more here.

With that being said, finding a product that is organic, all natural, chemical free, cruelty free and at an affordable price is pretty hard. Shea Moisture’s baby line is all of that and more! manuka_provence_tile.png

I searched for a “nighttime lotion” that was good for my babies and I found Shea Moisture’s Nighttime Soothing Lotion. I quickly ended up purchasing the baby wash too!

Pros:

Certified organic and natural ingredients

Cruelty free

No sulfates! This a big one for my lttle ones because they inherited my husband and I’s curly hair. Sulfates aren’t good for anyone but they do a number on curly hair!

IMG_20160518_084741

No parabens

No mineral oil

No dyes

It smells DIVINE! I’m not even exaggerating, I use it myself sometimes and it’s just heaven. It’s not just a typical lavender nighttime lotion. Together the manuka honey, ylang ylang and lavender create a scent that will put anyone in dream land!

The price is right! $9.99 for the lotion and $9.99 for the Shampoo & Bath Milk. If you compare that to other organic/all natural brands that is priced really well! I must not be the only parent loving it, because Amazon and their website is sold out, but you can still snag it on the links above on Target’s website.

Not only is the product itself fabulous, but the company is, too! I love promoting strong ethical companies that are doing good things! 10% of your purchase goes to community commerce programs. The company helps fund  women-led businesses, support the communities that supply ingredients for their products and/or to support The Sofi Tucker Foundation. If you want to learn more, you can read about the ways Shea Moisture gives back on their website. It really is a great program.

Cons: I have zero complaints about these products! It moisturizes and cleanses without making my sensitive-skinned babies break out and it keeps them smelling fresh until they decide to sludge applesauce through their hair.

I only have one complaint… It’s really hard to find!

I originally found it at Target and it was the only bottle. Thankfully, when I was running low on the lotion there was one bottle on the shelf when I went back. It’s not on Amazon and their site is sold out also.

I really want to try the Baby Nighttime Soothing Slumber Mist, but like I said, the whole line is hard to find. I did find it on Amazon, but it was almost $10 more than what they have it listed for on their site. I still might order it… Yes, this stuff is that good! SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Provence Lavender Baby Nighttime Soothing Slumber Mist 4 oz

The entire line is a registry must! I give it 5 stars!

I will keep a look out if Amazon or somewhere else gets it in stock, and I will be sure to update.

Have fun snuggling those delicious smelling babies!
