Finn + Emma {Review}

Pajamas are a huge deal in our house. My girls love their pajamas. It’s not easy to get them changed into regular clothes in the morning to start their day. They’d live in them if they could, but honestly, who wouldn’t? I know I would if I could. Jammies are so warm, cozy, and comfortable, pretty much everything I look for in everyday clothes! I recently had the opportunity to review an amazing modern organic children’s clothing brand, Finn + Emma. These are some of the coziest jams ever and they just keep getting softer with every wash!

While Finn + Emma offers a lot more than just pajamas, I had to try them first! All of their products are made of the finest organic cotton, with eco friendly dyes, and natural wood. As if Finn + Emma isn’t awesome enough, already, all of their garments and accessories are produced in fair trade settings that focus on social and economic pajamas-fairytale_grandeindependence for local people. I love companies that offer people fair wages and helps them provide a life for themselves and their families. Finn + Emma is a balance of stylish and sustainability and I love it!

The jams I picked out for my girls not only matched, but the print and colors went together perfectly! I’m not usually one for matching my 9 month old and my 4 year old, but when the clothes are this cute, I couldn’t deny my twin-mom fantasy any longer and had to get them to match! The Fairytale print is adorable and not only available in footies for littles and 2 piece sets for older kids, but a ton of matching clothing pieces, accessories, play gyms, and toys are available to complete this beautiful collection! See the Fairytale collection in action here:

I have to give Finn + Emma jams 5 out of 5 stars! They’re so incredibly soft and luxurious, I’m kind of jealous! I really hope adult jammies will be available in the future, I will definitely buy a few pairs for myself! Check out all of the awesome products, like fairytale-coverall-closeup-495x495clothing and toys, Finn + Emma have to offer here. There’s something for everyone, on any budget. I can’t wait to buy more of their adorable clothes for my girls and gift some of their wooden toys to my expecting friends!

Be sure to follow Finn + Emma on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest for new releases, sales, and more!

All of their products are vegan and cruelty-free!

Because they want the best for our families, their products are also free of:  Petrochemicals, Phthalates, Sulfates, Parabens, Synthetic Colors, TEA, DEA, Silicons, PEGS, Dairy, Egg, Oat, Lactoperoxidase, Citrus Seed Extract, GMOs, Triclosan, and Synthetic Dyes.

“Wash With Water is dedicated to crafting all-natural, organic skin and hair products. All of their award-winning, made-in-the-USA products are created using only ingredients chosen with the utmost care.”

The products are made using Moroccan Argan oil and Calendula so their products are ultra-gentle, and hypoallergenic. They are perfect for the most sensitive skin

I received the biG kiD best hair day set, biG kiD buBble bAth, and their biG kiD buG rePellEnt. My kids love bathtime and I couldn’t have been more excited. Bath time isn’t just washing up for us. It’s time to wind down, wash off the stress of the day, learn, play, and relax to get ready for bed.

We loved all three of these products! They are top of the line for a reason.

biG kiD best hair day set – This set is great for children and babies alike. I felt comfortable using it on my almost 3 year old and my 1 year old.

The shampoo was extremely gentle and didn’t create too many suds. It didn’t leave their hair dry or oily. My kids have very curly hair, so protecting their natural oils is extremely important. The scent for both products in the set is a very gentle citrus.

The conditioner has a pump that comes with it to make it easier to use. This conditioner was perfect for my son who has curly hair, but it is still pretty fine. With my daughter, who has very thick curls, I felt like I couldn’t get enough conditioner on her head to get the same result. In my opinion, it probably doesn’t have the correct formula of oils to saturate coarse hair. Her hair is a lot of work and I don’t hold it against a brand if the product doesn’t work. Finding the perfect products for her are still a work in progress and we have been using products for adult natural hair. If any of our readers have suggestions, feel free to comment! My son’s hair looks like a little doll’s though. Silky and perfect little curls forming without any work and detangling on my part! It is great! I am so thankful to have found something that tames his little flyaways and baby hair.

The set will run you about $40 for two 8 oz bottles. Amazon usually has it a few dollars cheaper.41SytRcZFVL.jpg

buBble bAth – My kids both adore bubble baths. It just makes bath time so much more fun! When else are you allowed to cover your sibling from head to toe in something and not get into trouble for it? There is barely any scent and it’s a light fresh “baby” scent. You do have to suds up the water yourself to create the bubbles, because there are no chemicals or additives to do it for you. I did like that they bubbles lasted the entire time the kids were in the tub, unlike some other organic bubble baths I have tried that go flat within a minute or so. An 8oz bottle runs around $17.

biG KiD buG rePellEnt – I was extremely excited about this. At the end of summer and beginning of fall, the kids tend to roll around in leaves and we stay out later for bon fires, so you need something to keep bugs away! Even though we need to protect ourselves from bugs bites, I hate all the chemicals that are in most sprays, deet especially! You can read more here. Like all of their products, it’s all natural. Instead of using harsh chemicals, it is made with eucalyptus and lemongrass essential oils. You kind of end up smelling like a citronella candle, but it’s fresh and my husband and I even used it on ourselves!  A 4oz bottle is $16.95.31og7xuthll-_sl300_

The biggest downfall with these products is the price. The brand is high quality, but not much higher than others that I have found in stores in my area. You can only find these online and they’re not in everyone’s budget. Even though they are pricey, I will definitely be purchasing the bug repellent again!

Wash with Water is based out of South Carolina. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for updates and new products!

The snack struggle is real…

NurturMe-snacks.jpg

Having an infant. Constant bottle feeds. Every two hours (sometimes more). Cluster feeding. It’s all such a mess. But in all reality, I didn’t realize how easy it was when I just had one thing to do: feed my child.

As my toddler son has grown, I’ve introduced more and more foods into his diet. However, I’ve found myself feeding him the same things over and over at times, because I couldn’t think of what else to give him. Toddler foods should be nutritious, but also bite-sized (or really, in my son’s case, take that bite-sized piece and cut it into 8 pieces or he’ll gag and barf everywhere. Cool, right?)

So when I finally get sick of the snacks I’m feeding him, I find myself on Pinterest or visiting forums for finger-food ideas that are also healthy.

logo (1).pngEnter NurturMe Yum-a-Roos, an organic toddler snack. 100% real fruits and veggies with no added salts, sugars, or preservatives, and they are dissolvable.

These come in resealable bags and NurturMe offers a variety of snack options. The snack that we elected to try was the pea+banana+pineapple combo. These are freeze-dried so they can be toted along without having to keep them cold.

They are USDA organic, gluten free, and offer a quick, nutritious snack for your little ones on the go.

I am by no means the perfect mom, but I do try diligently to offer my 1.5 year old healthy snacks whenever possible and as a busy parent, this allows me to do just that.

My son loves these snacks. I’d recommend only giving them to children that have a good number of teeth. My son still struggles with the dried peas, but the other fruits and veggies he does really well with!

Thanks to NurturMe for providing a good treat for my toddler!

Jack N’ Jill Natural Toothpaste {Review}

Getting your kids to brush their teeth isn’t always easy. Sometimes, it’s like pulling teeth to get them brushed. My little one doesn’t mind brushing her teeth usually, but she canFullSizeRender (45) sometimes be difficult and pitch a fit but it must be done. Oral health is very important, so it’s good to teach children to care for their teeth at an early age. Starting at four months, I began using a gum cleanser and finger brush to clean my oldest daughter’s gums and now she brushes twice a day, once after breakfast and once before bed. When she was old enough, I started using a well-known children’s fluoride toothpaste. But recently, I started to really look into the ingredients of everyday products my family uses and I decided to switch to natural and organic products if possible. When I was doing research for a natural children’s toothpaste, I found Jack N’ Jill Natural Toothpaste. I was thrilled when they sent a package full (their packaging is out of this world adorable!) of their amazing goodies for my daughter to try.

My daugher was so excited to try her new raspberry flavored Jack N’ Jill Natural Toothpaste and she immediately ran to the bathroom, ready to brush! If you’re the parent of a toddler, IMG_8611you know how happy that made me. I love she couldn’t wait to brush her teeth, something that doesn’t happen often. She used her new toothbrush from the kit and began brushing. A direct quote from her, “this toothpaste is yummy, Mommy! I want more!” She thought it was so good, she asked for more! I tasted it myself and it’s seriously really good. I love that it’s all natural and certified organic so there’s nothing harmful in it and safe to swallow. It’s fluoride and SLS free, too. I can even use it with a finger brush when my 3 month old turns 6 months old, as the toothpaste is safe for babies 6+ months! There are several yummy natural flavors to choose from: Blueberry, Strawberry, Blackcurrant, Banana and Raspberry, all have natural calendula extract as well. Each 50g tube is $6.99.

Jack ‘N Jill sent a few other awesome products for us, including their Jack N’ Jill Bio Toothbrush (the handle is made from NON GMO corn starch and is recyclable and biodegradable – how cool is that?) that FullSizeRender (47)come in several different designs, each with cute animal character on them and retail for $4.99 and a pack of their Stage 1 Silicone Finger Brushes, the pack of two brushes retails for $6.99 and are perfect for babies aged 6 months to 18 months. We also received a Rinse/Storage cup that I love, it’s also biodegradable and dishwasher safe. It’s very a very strong, thick cup that will last for years and retails for $9.99. I think the Sleepover Bag is my favorite product (because I can use it myself), it’s perfect for sleepovers at grandma and grandpa’s or a friend’s house. It stores a toothbrush and toothpaste, making it easy to pack for your little one’s overnight stay. The Sleepover Bag retails for $9.99.

Gift kits are available that include a tube of toothpaste (each kit has a different flavor and design), a toothbrush, rinse/storage cup and a sleepover bag. The kits also include a Stage 1 (6-18 months) finger brush, Stage 2 (1-3 years) baby toothbrush or Stage 3 (2-5 years) gum brush. Make IMG_8050sure you choose the appropriate kit for the age of your child. The gift kits retail for $36.99, which is a savings of $2 if you bought each product separately. Jack N’ Jill also offers an electric toothbrush that retails for $22.99 and extra brush heads that retail for $12.99, which would be perfect for older children!

Because of my daughter’s new found enthusiasm to brush her teeth and because the toothpaste seriously good (and not at all whatsoever), I give Jack N’ Jill products 5 out of 5 stars. My daughter wants to try the rest of the flavors, but thinks Blueberry would be extra yummy so she wants to order it next. To see all of Jack N’ Jill’s products, check out their website here! And if you want to place an order, be sure to sign up for their newsletter to get 15% off your FullSizeRender (46)purchase and get free shipping on orders over $25!

Follow Jack ‘N Jill on Instagram, Twitter and on Facebook, too!

Reese & Luke – Organic Skin care {Product Review}

untitled (27)

Last month in BK#1’s Bluum box there was a small glass jar of organic “balm”.IMG_20160201_154800378.jpg

I have tried a million and one creams and lotions for my babies, and  I finally found a combo of coconut oil and A&D that works for them. Most of the time. If you have sensitive skin, and/or your children do, you know what I am talking about! It really is a nightmare finding something that works for everything that doesn’t break the bank and that also isn’t filled with chemicals and steroids.

I am constantly battling my eczema, and haven’t really found anything that works as well as the steroid cream that you get from the doc.

I also find myself constantly trying new things on my babies, because I feel like their skin is always dry and flakey, and/ or they always have some sort of rash. Their pediatrician said that they just have sensitive skin, and baby acne. Sorry kids.

Nothing besides coconut oil has really soothed AND eliminated irritation/dry skin/ rash/ acne/ etc. But,coconut oil makes me crazy sometimes, because of the mess it causes! It makes diapers fall apart, its oily for hours, makes their hair greasy, and I have to constantly re- apply for it to work.

UNTIL NOW!12646858_892387587547468_1257449380403967368_o.jpg

Reese and Luke makes a Shea Butter Baby Balm (I received the  Tea Tree & Lavender) that is miracle cream! Magic in a cute little glass jar!

The product description is pretty amazing really….

” Our Shea butter organic baby balm is formulated to be the best product to naturally protect and soothe baby’s delicate skin. Our blend of certified organic ingredients combines raw Shea butter, olive & Jojoba oil and a mix of herbs and pure essential oils to create an everyday skin care balm that protects and serves as a natural barrier against excess moisture. Our organic baby balm formula can be used for soothing dry skin and does not damage or stain cloth diapers allowing your cloth diapers to be fully absorbent. It also works great for Moms too!” – Reese and Luke {reeseandluke.com}

All pure ingredients, no parebens, no dyes, no animal testing, etc. ! It seriously can NOT get better!

Now, its marketed for the baby bum, and their dry skin, but I have been using it for EVERYTHING!

I have used it on……

  • Diaper rash
  • Baby’s rug burned knees
  • Scrapes and scratches (I’m not kidding, the next day it was gone)
  • Dry skin
  • Chapped lips/ cheeks
  • Cracked nose
  • Unmanagable curly hair (DH is Greek and our kids have WILD hair 100% of the time)

Did you see that little blip about “works great for moms too”?  – My eczema is pretty much gone, no cracked hands from washing them a million times a day, tames my fly aways, and is a fabulous lip balm!

“Our formulas work for all skin types and on everything “from bum to thumb” and for those in hot areas (we’re all super jealous!), our balms work perfectly as an after sun “- Reese and Luke on Facebook.

The smell is divine!

It lasts forever! We have had our 3.5fl oz jar for about a month now,  I have barely made a dent, and I use it daily for everything! That being said, it is priced fabulously! A 3.5 fl oz. jar will cost you around $20. I am hoping that my local boutique starts stocking it, so I don’t have to order from Amazon or other boutiques. Check your area out first though, your local cloth diaper shop might have it!

The ONLY negative thing I have to say is that its slightly oily. SLIGHTLY! It doesn’t bother me one bit, but it does leave you a little sticky and shiny until it soaks in.

I am so excited to try more of their products!shampoo_2.jpg

Reese and Luke is a MUST for your baby registry, and your home even if you don’t have babies!

5 stars!!!

Lil’ Leona Baby Wash {Organic Review}

Alright, guys. As a parent, I obviously always want what is best for my baby.

  • Sometimes I’m naive.
  • Sometimes I’m over-educated.
  • Sometimes I’m just trying to survive.

(Mostly the third one.)

So I feed my guy as much organic food as I can. I try pretty diligently, but also know that he’s going to be exposed to a lot out of my control… because, let’s face it, America is really slacking on healthy food/products (you can do some research on this, but I personally was amazed by the number of things banned in other countries that are acceptable here.)514VrwBWcWL

When it came to body washes/lotions… I just didn’t think about it. I received a ton of Johnson & Johnson baby toiletries at my baby shower, and proceeded to use them, not realizing what I was exposing my baby to. Really, you can google various baby products that are carried at large retail chains and might be shocked at some of the information you find. If you want to read just one of the MANY articles I found, you can check it out here. It’s hard to find the time to research all of this stuff, and I get REALLY frustrated that products have such poor/misleading labeling.

So outside of just those factors: I noticed my son really hating bath time. Even if I avoided getting water in his face, he almost always would splash some into his eyes. His eyes would get red and irritated. I thought this stuff was tear-free? Also, a lie. Most shampoos for babies aren’t actually tear free, which you can read about here and here.

I went on a mission to find something that was GOOD for my baby and wouldn’t irritate61YCcxGkzuL._SL1024_ his eyes. There isn’t much on the shelves at a standard grocery store (if you’re lucky enough to have a Babies R Us close by, you might find some California Baby or Honest Company.)

I found a company called Leona, and their baby wash+shampoo had amazing ratings, and was 100% natural and organic. I ordered it, and am thrilled with the purchase.

This wash is a little pricier, $14 for 16 oz. That being said, it takes less than a dime-sized amount to wash my entire tiny human from head to toe. It has a very light floral scent, but cannot be detected after washed off.

I also noticed that my son’s hair is softer, and seems cleaner somehow. There is no residue left behind.81DP+bbIDmL._SL1500_

I am absolutely in love with this product and what the company stands for! Check them out and consider testing this alternative to the typical Johnson & Johnson products!

Don’t Bullshit a Bullshitter.

Jane-in-Role-Models-jane-lynch-11352323-853-480One of my favorite movies of all time is Role Models. Which, I know, makes me quite the embodiment of what a good parent should be (sarcasm.) If you’ve ever seen this movie, you know it’s full of all kinds of nonsense. One of my favorite scenes is when Jane Lynch is telling the two main characters that they aren’t going to get away with anything, and not to try to “bullshit a bullshitter.” It’s hysterical, and Jane Lynch is amazing.

I had an experience recently with a customer service rep at Gerber that made me think of this phrase over and over. I try SO hard to feed my baby organic foods, and up to this point I’ve been pretty successful. More expensive? You bet. But if getting him the best food means I have to get one less Chipotle bowl a month, I’ll make it happen. My frustration comes from food labeling, and the ambiguity in all of the wording. Anything labeled “organic” is certified organic. BUT, you will come across food labeled “all natural”. HUH?! Honestly, I didn’t think there could be much of a difference. Wrong. So wrong. I contacted Gerber to ask what the difference was. The rep beat around the bush and gave me the most vague answer; that essentially their “all natural” products met strict standards. Well great, but why wouldn’t all of your food just meet the absolute best standards? These are babies we’re talking about here.

After quite a bit of research, it’s evident that “all natural” doesn’t mean what it says at all. All natural means GMOs, unconventional farming methods, and the difficult part of this is that the “all natural” products aren’t regulated as well as the organic ones are. Organic products must meet strict criteria, whereas adding the word “natural” onto a product just means minimal processing and additives, to an unknown degree.363f8569da3f967b514bdb9f1d987339

It’s frustrating. Frustrating that there is an option at all for us not to feed our kids the best, and that baby food labels are misleading. In my perfect utopia I’d just like to see 100% organic baby food on the shelves, with a larger demand so that it’s more affordable for everyone.

So to the companies intentionally misleading customers, shame on you for not just laying it out. Don’t give me the run-around and try to convince me that your products are much the same. And to the companies that only offer organic solutions? Bravo. I’m only buying your products, and thank you for being concerned about the well-being of these babies.

So, parents, here’s a breakdown:

organic

Some brands that I love:

  1. Plum Organics
  2. Earth’s Best
  3. Ella’s Kitchen

All of these can be somewhat difficult to find, depending on what you have close by as far as shopping goes. I have the most luck at Babies R Us and Target. Most big chain grocery stores have a pretty poor selection of organic baby food.

Good luck, parents!
